Join Amy Torbert, assistant curator of American art, as she explores artist Benjamin West’s Daniel Interpreting to Belshazzar the Writing on The Wall. When SLAM acquired this painting in 2018, it looked very different than it does now! Our conservation team worked on a three-year treatment to remove deteriorated layers of yellowed varnish and brown residues to reveal the painting’s original paint surface and brilliant colors of West’s work.
