Elvira Resting at a Table by artist Amadeo Modigliani has been a SLAM favorite in the galleries for many visitors throughout the years.
In this #SLAMin60 video, Courtney Books from our conservation department outlines the collaborative effort with global researchers that allowed us to further study Modigliani’s work in regards to his paint application and choice of pigments and canvases. The research that was gathered supported a recent treatment decision, which allowed our conservation department to safely remove an unoriginal varnish and return the painted surface to a satin-matte sheen.
