Slagboombordjes worden weggehaald bij overweg in Puurs

The yellow lamp should illuminate steadily for at least 3 seconds before the RED lampstart flashing. In the USA the gates are usually perpendicular (90°) to the road. Not at an angle as seen here.

No it shouldn't, because the flashing yellow light (white in the Netherlands) tells you the crossing is functioning properly and no train is approaching. Using the all clear signal as a warning would be needlessly confusing for road traffic. Also, US RR crossings do not even have a yellow light, just the two red ones. Furthermore, there are tons of non-standard crossings in the US where the rails do not intersect the road at a 90° angle, like the one in this video and some of the crossings in the intro: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nIV4xKV6l5WtgMo.html

@@Welgeldiguniekalias The yellow lamp steadily illuminating 3 seconds before the redamps begin flashing warns thathe redights are abouto begin flashing. (Like a traffic signal's yellow lamp illuminating 3 seconds beforedamp illuminates.) Rather than a briefly blinking yellow or white lamp, why not a steady green lamp? Gates must be longer if at an.gle. Vehicles are rectangular, so why have gates at an.gle? USA usually has thick white stop lines on the pavement.

@@robertgift Gates must be longer when at an angle, sure. However, the road would take up more space, endure more wear, and be less comfortable to drive on if there were sudden bends to line up perfectly with the railway. If you have plenty of space to make smooth curves, or if you are designing the railroad and the road at the same time, sure, but in these parts of Europe you rarely have the space because everything is already built up, and one of the two was put in years prior to the other. This kind of angle can be the best solution in such situations. I guess you could argue about the lights. From a legal standpoint, your suggestion could be an improvement. Practically speaking, the red lights serve the purpose of both the yellow and the red light on a traffic light. When they come on, you have to stop if you can do so safely (i.e. without slamming on the brakes and making an emergency stop). This is well understood and does not create any problems in real life. A steady green light leaves too little distinction from a regular traffic light, which might lead to drivers who aren't paying attention turning onto the railway line and getting their vehicle stuck there. You can't make it too clear that the "road" they are intersecting is not for vehicles with rubber tyres. At any rate, level crossings are less than ideal. The best way to go is to separate road and rails with a bridge or tunnel. Thanks for your reply and stay safe.

Zum Glück wohn ich nicht neben einem Bahnübergang. Da ist man nachts ganz schnell wach. Gelukkig woon ik niet naast een overweg. Je bent 's nachts heel snel wakker. Fortunately, I don't live next to a level crossing. You are awake very quickly at night.

Bells are very annoying. I like American railroad crossing bells much better. Wait time is far too long. American trains usually arrive 25 to 30 seconds after *(o)T(o)* activation.

that can be dangerous if the train arrives 25 - 30 second after the activation. what if a car is on the track and the train is coming? do they have enough time to evacuate the car? what if there are childeren onboard that need to evacuate too? safety first!
