Formed in Wolverhampton in 1966, Slade's chart career spanned 3 decades. Slade were unstoppable throughout the seventies becoming one of Europe's biggest bands, releasing 6 smash hit albums, including three No-1’s, and their hit singles are synonymous with the era. The sensational songwriting partnership of Noddy Holder and Jim Lea provided a soundtrack to the Glam Generation and with a run of 17 consecutive Top 20 singles between 1971 and 1976, no other act of the period experienced such success.
In the eighties Slade enjoyed a renaissance, buoyed by a spectacular appearance at the Reading Festival in 1980, their hits included “My oh My”, which reached number 2 in 1983 and a year later with “Run Runaway”, cementing their legacy as one of the UK’s greatest bands.

Highly underrated when it was released, it has only been in recent years been given the credit it deserved and is arguably one of the greatest songs Slade ever produced. Noddy's vocal delivery is stunning with a deeply moving soulful melancholy interspersed with the great rasping power he was so famous for. It was such a different and unique song from anything the band had done before. It is a timeless masterpiece and certainly one of the best songs of the seventies.

Loved Slade in the 1970s then many years later discovered that one of my best friends grew up in Wolverhampton and went out with Noddy ... she always said he was lovely and when she died, far too young a few months ago, her family played a Slade track at the celebration...makes me think of her every time I listen to it. What an underrated group...these are all classics

I have lived in Wolverhampton all my life and was a big Slade fan in my teens. I went to most of their gigs and i have to say that this song is one of my favourites, it was taken from the film that they made called Flame. I went to see the film a few times when it was at the cinema. Not the greatest film in the world but when i was a teen and crazy about Slade it was brilliant. So sorry to hear of your loss.

Shoutout to Jimmy Lea, bassist, who wrote such great numbers like this. He gave the band such otherwise improbable depth.

Slade, a great band. Talented, sensitive, intelligent and unique.
It's got it all, fantastic vocals, top class musicianship, sublime songwriting. Up there with all the greatest songs ever produced by UK's finest bands. All time classic.

I was a big Slade fan back in the '70s but never got to see the Flame film until a couple of years ago. It was a bit dated, as you would expect, but i still thought it very good. My biggest take aways from it were this song and Don Powell's brilliant comic timing.
And… i finally started listening to Slade. although i have been listening to them for years through Cheap Trick!! 🤣❤️👏
This song came out when I was 10yo and will stay with me because it has such a personal memory with me .

Thank you Stephen and we must be a similar age as I also remember going to see the film when it came out and the huge excitement amongst me and my friends...such a huge part of our childhoods, this music takes me back to happy times....how proud you must have been to have thar link to the band! 😊
Sublime, for me this is their greatest track. Still get the chills when i remember hearing about Dons' car accident that tragically killed his GF back in 1973. Wonderful group that produced stunning work
Noel Gallagher sent me here. Not quite true: occasionally, we used to hear Slade rehearsing at the Cannock Forum walking home from school. Those were the days.

best live band of the 70,s early 80,s top,top group, so many great songs" how does it feel is almost 50 years old" and still sounds so fresh" universe is very close to this , maybe they saved their best till last?

I've loved Slade from a very young age, seen them a few times. Anyone remember Monsters of Rock?? (what a performance that was) and they have written and released some superb tracks, but for me this stands out above all others, simply superb, absolutely brilliant!!
Just listen to noddys vocals,he could & probably still sing anything,no better voice
