As a mechanical engineer who has worked with composites. I liked whole Video. Best thing is their Rocket looks so beutiful. From color theme to Finish on their Surface. I was most confused abt the circular ring at bottom on rocket. Now i understand its to control the solid stage.

    @@GuzzarAwan Ok I went through that part again, are you asking about the blue shroud? If yes, then that’s an engine skirt which will house the actuators for TVC. It will also have LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer) which is used for measuring displacement through which they can command the actuators for precise control. In the flexi-seal demo so far, the TVC actuators are attached to a fixed test platform but when installed on the rocket, they will be attached to the blue shroud. Hope this helps.

  • @OrangeDurito

    @OrangeDurito

    @@GuzzarAwan Aisa nahi hai ki solid rocket motors cannot be “controlled”. Once ignited, they cannot be shut off and reignited like liquid-fueled engines but their thrust vector can definitely be controlled. Even their thrust curve can be shaped to an extent using appropriate grain geometry. Plus they can also be throttled externally to an extent by impinging on the thrust plume. Joey B did that on Scout F using ceramic tabs/paddles, albeit on a model scale. So, in this case, they are using the first two control methods for rocket guidance.

I would love to know more about the latter. It’s wonderful to see their progress and how they are figuring out & maturing their manufacturing processes as they move forward. Just a curious question cant they make a ballistic missile with this as most stages are solid fuel ????

  • @OrangeDurito

    @OrangeDurito

    3 ай бұрын

    The difference between a rocket and a ballistic missile is where they are pointed, so basically guidance. If instead of targeting orbit, they guide their rocket to a specific target on Earth, then it’s a ballistic missile. Also, ballistic missiles are under thrust for a shorter period and they are actively controlled to a point after which the warhead take a ballistic (projectile) trajectory to the target. In case of a rocket, if you want to achieve orbit, the rocket has to be actively controlled throughout like in this case, they have open-loop control till first stage separation and then go in closed-loop control till orbit insertion. Hope this makes it clear.

    @@OrangeDurito i mean i know the difference between a delivery vehicle and a missile but essentially they are the same like soviets made human rated rockets from icbms etc

  • @OrangeDurito

    @@heresomewhere7600 That’s what I said. Many of the early rockets were derived from ICBMs like Soviet Vostok from R-7 or Mercury-Redstone from Redstone ICBM, the difference just lies in where they are pointed and how much of their flight is powered & actively controlled (and of course their payloads). Did you mean to ask if Skyroot Aerospace can develop ICBMs for Indian defence as well?
