@@hdanyelm I can tell you that I was so frustrated when I got to this point and could not progress the story (it seems like just yesterday). I started loading every prior save and kept coming up with the same glitch. With so many hours put into the game; there just had to be a way. The platter trick saved my sanity! That unlimited novice magicka trick I discovered was genius, too. Thank you very much for commenting and responding. You made my day. I love when a video of mine helps.😁

2019 now and you'd think Bethesda would have fixed this.. thank you for the video! It helped a lot.

I've given up on Volkihar keep ,wasted to many hours on this crap. Thank goodness Microsoft owns Bethesda Softworks now.. Maybe the bug gets fix now..

I honestly thought this was a joke lol. I started this quest for the first time today and when I realised the gate wasn't going to open and something had maybe glitched, I nearly cried, Thinking I'd have to restart. I'd done so much on this play through. So I grabbed my phone, straight on KZread and came across this. As soon as u said grab a platter, i thought oh gutted this is a joke I've just fallen for it. But it worked so I had a lil giggle and a lil celebration and now I can continue with my game so thanku 😁

The worst part of this is when you actually think you have to restart your game. Oh, I remember all to well having those same thoughts. Reloading older saves, but still having the same issue. Good thing that there was this way around this glitch, right? Thank you for responding. ;o

I tried other methods that I found online, but they only worked about 25% of the time (which is frustrating). This method (with the platter) worked about 90% of the time. I'm glad that my video helped you and thanks for the comment.

Oh my god it worked. This has been driving me nuts. Playing on the switch btw if anyone else is having this issue with Nintendo version. It works

Didn't have any save games prior to screwing it up, thank you bud - also worth noting it doesn't work if you hold forward while you Whirlwind Sprint

Well yeah on xbox I used this mod called cheat room and it had a spell to get into any area and there was an option called “V Castle” and I used that and I got in BUT sometimes my screen goes half black so what I did was I walked out of the castle and back Inside

@@sabotagedlife8413 it helped but my problem now is that Everytime I enter the door behind the gate my game bugs out. like the door to go back to Skyrim says it's can't be picked and I need a key so it won't let me leave. Also I can't talk to any of the NPCs in there either

I tried many things. Only had a simple plate - but your suggestion worked! Thanks so much!

Wow, this video helped me a lot!!! Now I can continue this game. I was shortly before giving up and hating Bethesda until the end of my life. I mean its more than careless that they didn´t fix a bug that is known since Dawnguard was released.

I felt the exact same way as you. I was loading old saves just to try to get around this bug, but none of them worked. I was about to give up and start all over. I'm also surprised that Bethesda never fixed this. I'm glad that you were able to continue with this game. Thanks for your comment.

Thanks heaps SL, you were the only guy that explained that properly and the only one that actually worked for me. After nearly 2 hours of trying other people's suggestions, using wooden plates and "gods knows what", as they say in Nordic worlds, I finally discovered your video above, and tried it, and it worked perfectly, first time... thanks!

I just finished recording Dark Souls and now I am going to play (not record) Skyrim again using mods. I find that this game is one of the best I've played in awhile. If you have a chance, let me know what games are your favorites as I am always looking for suggestions.

The Game fucked me badly She wont speak to me on the Bridge The Gate wont Open and I cant open the door...

I tried this with a regular book on the Nintendo Switch version and it worked.

When im doing the companion "proving honor qeust" when you go back to the companians to turn in the quest you follow vilkas to the meeting and when you meet the circle I can't move 😣

I play on the PS4. I dropped a wooden plate. Then, used telekinesis to pick it up and hold it in front. You can use the left joystick to turn the plate so that it covers most of the screen. At a certain point, if you let go of the magic button, the plate won’t fall very fast to the floor. It sort of floats down. This gives you the time to press the shout button (the sprint shout) which takes you into the castle. Can’t believe I’ve been stuck on this for like 10 years. But, finally went searching, and a plate was the answer. Some people say use a large silver platter. I guess it may be easier since it’s bigger than a wooden plate and therefore easier to block the screen with.
