Skyrim - All 19 Black Book Powers Ranked

Ойындар

A complete ranking video on all 19 Black Book Powers in Skyrim, ranked worst to best. In today's video I explore all of the Black Books from the Dragonborn expansion, and rank them by the overall power they contain. But that's not all! I also rank all Black Book powers within each of Hermaeus Mora's realm, Apocrypha, from worst to best.
7 Black Books are hidden away within Solstheim. Each bears unique forbidden knowledge that cannot be learned in the normal plane. Exactly 19 powers of exceptionally powerful knowledge can be conceived, but not by mere mortals, only a Dragonborn.
Greetings Wizards! In this video I am going to rank all 19 Black Book powers in Skyrim from worst to best. This is of course in my own opinion and may well vary for you, nonetheless, feel free to comment your thoughts down below.

Hey Wizard's, hope you enjoyed the vid! 🧙‍♂️ This one was a good long while in the making and I sincerely thank you for your patience 🙏 What is your favourite Black Book Power? 📖 *FAQs* 👇 Q: The Waking Dreams power that allows you to reset all your perk choices in a skill tree for a dragon soul, does not do the "exact same thing" as making a skill Legendary? 🧙‍♂ I realised after re-watching the video that I may cause some confusion here, and I apologise. I added some text (top right) directly after what I say (referring to making a skill Legendary) in an attempt to clear things up: "Well... slightly different: allows you to level up again to gain even more perks." While this is true, it's still pretty vague as to what making a skill Legendary actually does. Legendary definition: Once a skill has reached 100, it can be made "Legendary." This resets the skill back to level 15, and refunds any Perk points that were spent in that skill tree. Before making skills Legendary was a thing, Waking Dreams was essential to redistributing a limited supply of Perk points, as back then, the maximum level that could be attained was 81. At this level, fully unlocking all skill trees was not possible as there was an insufficient amount of Perk points. You had to be careful with what you chose, and if you did make a mistake, Waking Dreams could be utilised. Nowadays, you can unlock all skill trees by making skills Legendary, providing an infinite amount of level ups and Perk points. Q: The Waking Dreams power is useful if you don’t want to lose your skills, as making a skill Legendary will reset it back to 15, whereas Waking Dreams leaves your skill level untouched? 🧙‍♂ That is true, but why Legendary a skill that you know will take a long time to level back up? A top tip is to only Legendary skills that you can easily power level back to 100. Think of Illusion and casting Muffle, or using the Telekinesis exploit to instantly hit 100 Alteration, or continually casting Soul Trap on a corpse for Conjuration. These are just a few examples and there are many more. This way you can maintain your current skill levels and can use the Perk points gained from power levelling other skills and making them Legendary to unlock all skill trees in the game!

  • @theraven.4

    @theraven.4

    Жыл бұрын

@@efulmer8675 Analyzing what Ulfric says. "Not entirely true, though not entirely false either. Any Nord can learn the Way of the Voice by studying with the Greybeards, given enough ambition and dedication. My shouting Torygg to the ground proved he had neither. However, it was my sword piercing his heart that killed him." "Any Nord can learn the Way of the Voice by studying with the Greybeards, given enough ambition and dedication." The way of the voice is an ideology anyone can learn an ideology. For the Thu'um however, there have been no mentions of the Thu'um being a Nord only ability by Arngeir. Futhermore, the students would have to dedicate themselves to following the ideology, which as seen Ulfric refused to do after studying with them for almost 10 years. "My shouting Torygg to the ground proved he had neither." Ulfric was a Great War Veteran and was already expected to win the duel. Fun fact, the Greybeards are careful when interacting with others because their voice can cause damage just by speaking if not controlled just like wild magic. Arngeir is similar to a master mage. Unless if the High King could take the force of the Thu'um which most people can't, he had no chance. Similar to being hit with a destruction spell. "However, it was my sword piercing his heart that killed him." There was no mention of him stabbing the High King by anyone Imperial aligned. Why is this important? Assuming that they were lying, they could have easily included that in their story to make Ulfric look bad. "I killed Torygg to prove our wretched condition. How is the High King supposed to be the defender of Skyrim, if he can't even defend himself?" Ulfric was on the cart getting ready to be executed. Hadvar says this: "A masterstroke by General Tullius! He's only been in charge here for a few months, but he's turned things around for the Empire. We've been trying to catch Ulfric since the war started, but he always seemed to slip through our fingers... like he knew we were coming. This time, the General turned the tables on him. Ulfric rode right into our ambush with only a few bodyguards. He surrendered pretty meekly, too. So much for his death-or-glory reputation. I thought we were taking Ulfric back to Cyrodiil, but I guess the General changed his mind. You know the rest." Ulfric surrendered without a fight whereas Toyagg agreed to duel Ulfric even when the odds were stacked against him. Ulfric would not have made it to Sovngarde if he was executed at Helgen (it can supposedly only be reached by true Nords who die valiantly or in battle, regardless of personality.). Then, we have High King Toyagg's dialogue: "When Ulfric Stormcloak, with savage Shout, sent me here, my sole regret was fair Elisif, left forlorn and weeping. I faced him fearlessly - my fate inescapable, yet my honor is unstained - can Ulfric say the same?" Yeah, I think I will take the words of the dead man. Summing it up, Ulfric's words are another side of the story, as seen it introduces unconfirmed information and information that is questionable. Often times, you will even find his words to be rather hypocritical as well. Considering what Toyagg said I am inclined not to believe Ulfric.

Even if Harkon is really tough, you should at least be allowed to try to take him on there. Not saying it should be easy or anything, just possible. Especially because you don't even need Auriel's Bow for the final fight. So the entire questline adds no reason as to why you suddenly can stand up to him. In fact, nothing is more retarded than showing up with the bow. There wasn't even an indicator you'd use it on him during the fight. The fact the dlc adds three of the most horrible dungeons - forgotten vale, castle volkihar dungeons, soul cairn - aside, what Dawnguard really encapsualates is this whole "you can go everywhere because enemies are levelled and your stats don't dictate your power". Imagine you've slain Alduin, Miraak, slain 50+ dragons, got every shout, looted every dungeon but some dumb vampire is apparantley still too scary for you - twice. Remember the Falmer vampire? Ugh. The basic idea of the whole dlc (joining an anti-creature guild, get choice to flip) was already done 80 million times better in the Bloodmoon dlc for Morrowind, too.

This. By the time you're getting this book, you get attacked by dragons every time you turn left. It's much easier to blow a dragon soul or two on swapping your build for something else while maintaining your skill levels. It's easy to grab all of your perks out of enchanting, alchemy and smithing and use them for combat skills until it's time to craft again.

Imo Waking Dreams is absolutely broken as it allows you to temporarily shift your skill points between combat-related and crafting-related skill trees like alchemy, smithing and enchanting. You can basically max out these skill trees, get uncanny gear and potions and then shift back to maxing out your combat-related skills, absolutely annihilating anything. This black book absolutely BREAKS the game by removing the draw back from using skill points on crafting. I can't understand why people put it that low

My favorite is secret of arcana and I like to use lightning storm with it to kamehameha dragons out of the sky. With the impact destruction perk, dual casted destruction spells stagger targets and it makes targets stuck in a stagger loop. I save the ability as my go to counter for dragons since lightning spells are quick travelling so I don't have to lead my target and it is very accurate and has good range. Great for damaging dragons in the air and on the ground, dragons have a long stagger animation and just loop it over and over due to the master level spell being dual casted on them. In other situations, the book ability can be used to spam healing spells, conjure high cost reinforcements like dremora, cast high cost spells like harmony or telekinesis to power level, etc.

Legendary Skills are not the same as Waking Dreams, lets say you make the ultimate armor/weapon via Smithing. Why would you EVER want to Legendary that tree? If you ever want to improve or change up your look you're going to have to settle for substantially worse tools till you level it up AGAIN. Better to take the perk points out of Smithing and keep it at 100. The same applies to Enchanting. Alchemy gets 1 better, lets say you make 100x of a potion. These will last for a long time. Get better perks. Then when you run out... one quick trip lets you get back to 100 Alch with the right perks. Or perhaps you've grown tired of being a Sneak Thief but don't want to Legendary because you know you want to go back to it later. Boom, one simple trip and you can now spec in Melee for a bit. Level it up till you're tired of it and switch back. Making a skill Legendary isn't actually useful in the slightest unless you want to level it from scratch to eventually hit max level.

Dragonborn Frost (free 15 second mass paralyze, instantly cast and on a 30 second cd) Seeker of Sorcery/shadows/might (Useful and can be swapped) Lovers insight (Amazing for female characters) Scholar's insight (up to 5 free levels per skill) Mora's Boon (full restore) Secret of Arcana (no need to invest in mana again) Mora's Agony (instant area denial spell) Dragonborn Force (minor buff to unrelenting force) Secret of Protection (can be used with WW/vamp lord) Black Market (convenient) Mora's Grasp (a worse paralyze) Dragonborn Flame (trash summon who doesn't follow you) Bardic Knowledge (good for Civil War sieges, otherwise useless) Secret of Strength (worse than vegetable stew) Secret Servant (only useful for 1 quest in game) Companion's Insight (doesn't work with Storm Call)

Personally I prefer the passive buffs, mid to late game you have so many spells. regardless of how much power each spell has it's a drop in the bucket . Especially if it's a one time use per day, its harder to justify cluttering up your favorites bar.

  • @theWelshWizard

That's very true, and at the later levels some of these powers do become less useful (as you get stronger), but can still be very entertaining! Passives are the boys though :)

I don't know if it's on purpose but considering the region of Skyrim is inspired by norway and has location names based on Norwegian, benkongerike translates to "kingdom of bones" in Norwegian. And if that's the case, your first pronunciation is great!

I think the best book is Sallow Regent. It helps tou make godlike builds with smithing and enchanting. Also boosting your potions so you can reach ridicilous numbers for your gear...

The Sallow Regent is an absolute minmaxer's must, no optimized build is complete without it (or the Relics of Ahzidal). Not the flashiest effect but definitely my most widely used one

@@indiana47 LOL I actually meant the +10 bonus to enchanting from the full set. But in seriousness waterwalking can be useful in a few Apocrypha areas solely because of how glitchy they are and how easy it is to clip out of the structures and into the death water

"godlike builds" are the lamest shit ever and they're also a lie. Yes, smithing, alchemy and enchanting is ridiculously OP but they damaged the game more than serve it. But finally, "builds" don't even matter in Skyrim
