A women’s professional league that does not put the women first is sad. Pregnant women need to be taken care of. Keeping her out of the facility is ridiculous. The WNBA is starting to have a reputation for treating pregnant players like garbage.

These sports leagues are terrible when it comes to workers rights because they use the media to spin narratives that because these players get paid more than the average person they don't need proper entitlements like the rest of us.

The same situation with Dearica Hamby with the Aces. This is why the WNBA is failing because of their lack of marketing to the treatment of their players. Many players in the college game would rather stay five years in school or go overseas but look what happen with Griner. I like that you have players like Stewie and Naphessa Collier are building their own league give players an opportunity play and get paid more which is also bittersweet based off the mistreatment WNBA show to their stars.

@@jeremyadom5672 it’s sad that pregnant women in the WNBA are treated like that. This make people like me not support the league. It’s a women’s league and they are treating them horribly. I think Stevie and Naphessa starting their own league is not a good idea. If the WNBA is struggling to get fans why make a league? Good luck to them though.

Regarding Skylar Diggins-Smith, I guess people don't understand what medical\maternity leave is and what it does. My wife (who is a Mystics ticket holder and a HR director) confirmed what I've been thru when I had surgery with my employer. I was not permitted to return to the office for ANYTHING from work to meeting to just visiting. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO RETURN TO A WORK SITE WITHOUT MEDICAL CLEARANCE otherwise the company is responsible if something happens to you. It has ZERO to do with her or her as a woman, it's the laws and regulations for workplace safety and accountability. OSHA and the US Department of Labor laws do not permit if you are on leave otherwise the Mercury would be breaking the law.

Although this is a great explanation! That’s just not how it works contractually in THIS MATTER… in this matter The player has informed the team she’s expecting & needs a leave of absence (maternity leave) Upon returning HER DOCTOR must permit a return to the court ( not necessarily FULL OUT BASKETBALL) nutritionist, mental healthcare, chefs,& trainers .. this is how a professional athlete returns from injury/pregnancy. Once you make a roster INSURANCE is there. This appears to be a FULL parting of ways & it is being conducted at the wrong time ! which to the ladies point is UNPROFESSIONAL

Exactly. I was not surprised at this because working in HR, I have seen this before. My last company deactivated your badge when you were on FMLA and maternity leave. Companies can get in a lot of legal trobule for allowing employees to work while on medical leave. The company would end up being responsible if something happened to you. Employees at my job would get around this by working remotely, but even that was illegal.

I think the mercury chose DT over Skylar tbh and that’s probably why they struggling. If I was Skylar I’ll ask for a trade if she not a free agent at the end of this season. It’s no need to stay at a place where your not wanted, appreciate or valued. There are team out there that would enjoy having a Skylar Diggins.

Regarding the Skylar situation, we only know what she shared on social media and there are 2 sides to every story, and sometimes 3.

She's on Maternity leave. That's why they won't let her on the facilities duh. Employers don't let people on the job sites while on maternity leave for liability issues. If she were to slip and fall and lose the baby, she could sue them, and they would be held responsible. I don't understand why she's having an issue with this. Maybe just cause of self entitlement I don't know. The one thing I do know is this isn't a news worthy issue.

@@ms.peaches1 Maternity leave is a set amount of time per agred.upon in their Contract. I don't feel bad for her one bit. She sounds like a drama queen. In the league’s previous agreement, players earned as little as half their salaries while taking maternity leave-salaries that were only about $75,000 on average to begin with. The athletes will now receive average compensation of nearly $130,000-the first time the average will top six figures. (NBA players pull in more than $7 million on average each year). Parents in the WNBA will also now have two-bedroom apartments guaranteed by the league, and a child-care stipend of $5,000.Skylar Diggins-Smith, a current free agent and former point guard for the Dallas Wings, missed the 2019 season after giving birth last spring. She had been vocal recently about the difficulties she’d faced during pregnancy, noting that she hadn’t told “a soul” in her organization that she was expecting throughout the 2018 season, and that she suffered from postpartum depression following the birth of her child. In November, Diggins-Smith told ESPN that she would be bringing her experience to the negotiating table for the new contract. “I’ve already reached out to a few moms. As we negotiate with the CBA [collective-bargaining agreement], how can we improve things?” she said. “It’s about prioritization; we can’t have everything. But I’m going to bring that portion to the table because I’m a mom."

Do you recall the nba had to go through the same process that wnba is going? The nba didn't happened over night. If my memory serve me the right nba was known first as the Basketball Association of America. Later changed it name after merge with National Basketball League. The name was changed again after merging with America Basketball Association where Dr. J won his first championship (ABA) then it was officially known as nba. The ABA helped the nba tremendously. If wasn't for ABA it wouldn't be no Nba. Swoopes Miller, Thompson, Cooper, and so many others pave the way for the wnba players today. Wnba needs a good marketing campaign. They missed huge opportunity on last year anniversary. The could have brought back the Comets historical run, Detroit Shock & Sparks back to back. I still have all those pictures when comets won. Posters I made and Lisa's mom telling me I could talk trash about her just don't go below the belt. Good memories the marketing team failed to capitalized on.

The more I learn about this the more I think the team made the right decision. She is a walking lawsuit just waiting to happen. During her pregnancy and maternity she is not allowed to use the facilities because it increases the teams liability. If she miscarriages is she going to take FULL responsibility for it? The type of person who gets on social media and airs all of their grievances is usually the type of person who blames others. The facilities are not pregnancy pilates, yoga and breathing classes. I do think the team should have just told her that rather than coming up with that "giving her space" BS story.

I feel like women in general need to understand pregnancy can be life threatening and when it comes to money people are not willing to stand by you vs someone younger who is not pregnant. These are sports that are highly competitive and they are trying to make a profit. So they really don’t care about pregnant women. If you feel that you want to start to have more than 1 child you should be looking for retirement and a way to profit your image outside of sports. The difference is men can’t get pregnant.

The leaderships, the union and botb organizations havr been weak in supporting both players during their pregnancy. I haven't watched a hame this season and it's killing me. The way Aces got CP you know someone was under the table. Becky suspension was weak. We have men trying to control women and the leadership which both are women won't stand up. Nope, I will not watch another game until this ship does 180. Very disappointed in all the players that haven't spoken up. If will happen to these two it will happen to others.
