When I bought this album -- well, the US compilation one, which was mostly the Oz 'Ego' LP with a couple older tracks thrown in (no Every Chase a Steeple or Private Eye, instead they threw in Horror Movie and You Just Like Me Cos I'm Good In Bed) -- I didn't quite know what to expect, as I hadn't really heard the Skyhooks aside from a live track of "Ego" on a US FM rock program that featured mostly UK and European, overseas rock acts. This song is the one that hooked me. The feel, the words, the guitar work, everything. It's very cool seeing this mini documentary, showing the guys actually recording it. And the instruments used, too. Red Symon's black Custom LP, and Bob Starkie's playing an Ovation Breadwinner (you don't see that often), and Greg recorded with a Gibson Ripper. All very cool. Thanks for posting this. Peace.

Fantastic ! Thanks for sharing. The desk looks like something that NASA would use. I always loved the production on this album and was thrilled when I read that it was done by Ross Wilson. He really is a musical genius !

Brilliant albeit too short documentary on my all time favourite Aussie band. As a pretty big fan of Skyhooks I am amazed that I have never seen this before, thank you for posting it. I am lucky enough to have seen the band more times than I can remember (altho' I can remember every show lol) and to have met the band a few times in Adelaide during their Second Coming tour @Thebarton Theatre and then again during the tour for Jukebox/Tall Timber @ Old Lion Hotel. I went to EVERY show at both venues, (which added up to approx 8 or 9 shows) and did the whole after show wait around, autograph thing and even had a brief chat one on one with each band member, Bongo and Shirl being the most approachable. Red was Red of course and I would have been amazed if he wasn't sarcastic, abrasive but obliging. I am also very lucky to have recently met Ross "The Boss" Wilson at one of his solo gigs, got a couple of autographs and even a guitar lesson from the great man himself. He taught me how to correctly play his Daddy Cool hit "Come Back & Stay"....he is so cool. Anyway, I love Skyhooks and Shirl is forever in our hearts RIP.
Wow manufacturing in Australia- who would've guessed!

Maya D I bet he 8-track would be with a few quid... I have the LP, CD, and Tape too...
Do I detect a different vocal take in the final montage? Mostly the line in the 2nd chorus being “everyone’s got high ideas”, yet the finished album uses a different line, “everyone’s got big ideas”. So obviously, the recording we hear at the end was not the finished product, but rather an alternate, unreleased mix? Still... This is a very important part of Australian music history right here! Thanks for sharing!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Yes, too true; although consider that they may want a normal life - the quiet privacy to go about everyday life in public without 101 strangers constantly coming up to you every day, treating you like an object, demanding and expecting your energy; imagine what that's like and you get an inkling of how awful fame is; why you might snap and become aloof/unfriendly.
its funny how sometimes you meet the people you look up to and they turn out to be total wankers, loved this band back in the 70's, they've left us with some great music
