Sky Pilot

Wear a helmet if doing this, plenty of chutes with loose rock to fall on you if kicked down from others.
I hiked this trail via the sea to sky gondola round trip about 8hrs including grabbing the camera.
Thanks to Paul Romein for flying the drone!

    @@DeeDee-vl2sd I only had two shots in the video with a go pro, the one going up the snow and going down. The rest was shot with a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, on a tripod. The drone was in my bag! I was using a Mavic Air 2 so it packs down pretty small.

    I’d say if you’re used to a bit of climbing it’s easy, if you’re used to mostly hiking then it’ll feel hard. Technically it’s not too big of a day (First time I hiked it it was car2car in 6 1/2 hours at a casual pace) but it can get bigger and more real if you’re not used to exposure or heights. I’d recommend easier scrambles first like golden ears or needle peak. If those feel way too easy, then maybe you’d enjoy Sky Pilot!

    Hey bud! Thanks for this video. Thinking of doing it this weekend (May 2021) - do you think it's too early in the season to go for it? Also - do you think there's a spot to camp up there?

  • @BCHiking

    @BCHiking

    3 жыл бұрын

    If you're okay with hiking mostly snow it'd probably be doable, but not as enjoyable until probably June/July when the snow melts. The scrambly bits at the top wouldn't be too fun with snow in the mix. At around 4:20 in the video just before the pink slabs there's a pretty nice spot that has some flat areas where it looks like some people have camped before. If you look at the drone footage at around 0:15 seconds the camping spot is in the middle of the screen. Might be a bit windy though!

    Everything up to the pink slabs is pretty easy, with some rockfall potential at the glacier. Once you’re up at the slabs it’s solid rock but its sheer drops on either side with some slippery talus sections above. If you’re not solid on 4th class scrambling it might be a little nerve wracking in some sections!
