Y'know, looking at this, I just realize how much I prefer to play Big Band, I usually just run solo band for the most part, and use Squiggly's Center Stage assist for more mix and harder match ups, sometimes I just run Filia, Fukua, or Cerebella, but I just prefer Big Band as the main guy... Guess I'm all brass no bite

Speaking as someone who started in Guilty Gear Strive and is picking up Skullgirls, a very useful guide! There were a few instances of jargon that could have benefitted from a quick definition, specifically Happy Birthday, DHC, and Snap. This really helped clarify the dynamics of different team setups and combinations that I've been struggling to grasp without a team fighter background.

Happy birthday means hitting both the point character and the assist character with a combo at the same time, DHC (Delayed Hyper Combo) means cancelling a super with another character's super, and Snap means hitting the opponent with a move that forces them to switch to another character.

Some other things to note, like, a year later, one for each term: - When you do a snap with a solo character, you also gain back some red health (that bright red bar next to the main health bar, which consists of some of the damage you’ve taken from the last combo and all damage done by any throw) - DHCs will immediately cancel into the next super, so besides BEEG DAMAGE, they’re also sometimes useful to turn your terrible hard read into a reversal, or just feed your mid to the wolves. Also, speaking of damage, if you have a multi-hit super, try to keep in mind how many hits it has, then use the combo counter and addition to DHC for optimal damage - When you do find yourself looking at Happy Birthday setups (late into your time learning the game), there’s more reason than usual to follow an optimal loop. While that loop’s happening, you’re not gaining as much meter, while your opponent’s teammates are gaining more than usual, and regenerating red damage at about triple the speed.

I think you should mention snapping as a solo regain some of the red health in a solo vs team fight. It’s a pretty nice mechanic to know that I did not know until much later. (It works the other way too, snapping out a solo kill all of their red health)

I've learned more from this guide than i have from most other guides i could find on youtube. I already love your channel and wish I had the time and motivation to make content like this. You got two subs out of me lol I'm really excited for more skullgirls videos. Speaking of, what I mostly struggle with in skullgirls is defense. once I get a hit on the opponent I don't know how combos are structured and end up either dropping or finishing a really short grounded combo into super but I know most combos jump cancel a normal and come back down into a reset and just rinse repeat. Most guides talk about resets options but dont explain anything else about them.

Your in luck! I will have a defense guide out (at some point in the near future) so hopefully that will help. Just know that you can challenge more then you think if you pick the right options. On the topic of combos I recommend just learning a full bread n butter on Mizzumi for whatever character you play and learn resets from there. A lot of characters bread n butter combos have reset points built in and on mizzumi there is a page with common resets. Hope that could help and Ty for the subs

if you want a better idea of what char do i would highly recommend Dekillsages char guide, he goes over each char in depth for like 10 minutes each and if i made a video like that it wouldnt be nearly as informative or helpful as his one. also if you are thinking of playing parasol and umbrella that shell is really flexible and whoever ur the 3rd u pick is can help u a lot with w/e you want to do (better neutral assist pick robo, better defense pick band, better meter build slap on miss fortune or peacock point, etc.) also the team building doc in the description would also help a lot :)

@@corn2454 a wise pro player once said that there is only one bad trio in the game, and that's Beo/Val/Ms Fortune, and iirc i don't think they get along, in fact, I'm pretty sure Beo doesn't know what a Ms Fortune is

I was definitely thinking about just playing Beowulf and Big Band. I figured there was some taboo around it, but I can't help they're some of the coolest characters ever. If a third joins my team, it would be Cerebella. Probably not optimal, but she's my favorite

Do NOT let my bias get to u, beo bella band is acutally a GREAT team with really good synergy. the characters all work really well together and dont really struggle to bad when the team is a whole. that team is really fun its just ive been beeat down by ruby-chan so i always remember the beo pain

I really need a lot to learn I once got killed by a wolf, umbrella and squigly team so bad that I let my opponent in 7th match to just practice (I know I am just a noob but imagine losing 7 times in a row without doing any damage)

It’s ok, the game can be difficult and even I get giga smoked by good players. Just take ur time and have fun cuz that’s what it’s all about

I really can't imagine a new player picking up the game, hopping online and having a good time. The game is so frustrating with mix-ups and resets, I'm afraid to imagine the state of mind of average Skullgirls enjoyer.

speaking from experience its p easy to hop on quick match and play vs players of all skill levels. if you play on quick match for like an hour your bound to find someone close to you in skill level. plus you dont need to win to have fun, just get one sick mix and im happy

It’s ok nagatoro, just take it step by step and maybe check out some footage from the Mix Masters Tournament Series on Dekillsage’s channel (trust they are really funny watch a grand finals set ) to try and get an idea of what I’m talking about in action. It’s a lot of info but u don’t need to apply all this right at once, just pick characters you think look cool and take it one step at a time

Hi there, I recently found out this video which I found very interesting. To join the argument I wanted to know if possible, what would you or the other people think of a peacock (point - assist: H shadow of impending doom), Umbrella (Mid - assist: Cliffhanger) and Black Dahlia (Anchor - Assist: Medici's mousetrap) team. I'm actually kinda new to the game, like about 2-3 weeks since I discovered its presence, so I hope to know all of your ideas about it :)

That team sounds really good! Pea gets a lot of setups with that umby assist and dhalia does well on her own. The only real problem is your super damage is pretty low outside of peacock and if pea dies it might be hard to get in. Also would recommend experimenting with Dhalia shot assist cuz having a neutral assist might b nice. But yea, great team 👍 Also if u wanna find people to play with I recommend the mix master discord! There is a beginner matchmaking tag and it’s a fairly active server

Who would you recommend as a 3rd for a team with Cerebella and Squigly? I'm leaning toward Annie, Robo, or Big Band.

Depends on what you want for the team but out of those 3 Annie is generally good and will help on defense if u choose DP assist Robo will help u with neutral a lot and let you cash out high damage with super Big band does a lil both but also gets zoned and messed up on defense p bad Peacock would be my recommendation cuz both those characters give her good mix ups and she builds a lot of meter that both of them love (I am a peacock main so it may be propaganda take that with a grain of salt)

Well to me this guide works well at a mid level as well, it’s just now ur mid level and you know the cast so u gotta think of synergies for a team u wanna play. Do u have any specific team building questions?

Been using beo/umbrella or beobrella, i dont know what beo assist to use but ive been using 236L or the toothpick move i think its called?

Either Eliza or Robo on point, Annie or Robo Mid Any of the 3 can anchor. Honestly that combo is pretty flexible so I would play around with the order and see what you prefer

If u wanna know check out my team mechanics video where I go over it but assists are moves your other character that aren’t point will do to help out the point character, and DHC (Delayed Hyper Combo) is when you super with one character and continue the combo with a super from another character
