As a Kiwi, I have to say I'm appreciative that the Aussie commentators and fans give recognition to Smithy. He's certainly a huge part of New Zealand's cricket history having kept to the great Sir Richard Hadlee for so long and having been a mainstay of New Zealand's first great cricket era. He was a very very good keeper also. Possibly the best gloveman of his era and a handy batsman. I was watching the commentary of the just completed NZ v SA era. They were saying that when asked players of his era couldn't recall Smith dropping catches and making mistakes during his career. That's how good he was. They stated that he probably only had a couple of drops in his time with NZ. I've also heard Brad Haddin say very complimentary things about Smithy's skill behind the stumps.

@@MrT67 he’s a top wicketkeeper and an excellent commentator. He deserves all of the recognition he gets. As an Aussie, I respect what NZ are able to achieve from such few resources (particularly with respects to the population). Yes, the first thing I do when I meet a kiwi abroad is give them stick, but that’s because they can take a joke. We have a lot more in common than we have that’s different.

One of Skull's best stories is about playing with Imran Khan. According to Skull, Imram arrived a few minutes late to the game, already in his whites, in a sports car with a young, blonde female companion in the passenger seat and left seconds after his involvement in the game was over. Sharing a room with Doug Walters is another.

He's probably the best of all of them. It'd look silly if he didn't.

That NZ team that won in OZ, also beat the Windies in '82. But they were such a group of fighters .... watching those games, it came through the TV just how hard they fought. It's rare that an Aussie team gets beaten on attitude. Hadlee and co came here full of intent. You need big personalities and those big personalities need to beat Aussie's big personalities. India's pace attack out performed our guys in the last 2 series here. BTW John Dyson's catch in the outfield ...... the all time best.

Smithy runs rings around anybody else here in New Zealand at the moment in regards to New Zealand cricket commentary.

Four Day Test Matches I would only accept if they still meant the same amount of playing time as Test matches scheduled all my life, which is 30 hours for two innings match. If 30 hours over four days in day/night Test match I am more than ok with it. Kerry Packer did that with SuperTests during World Series Cricket when I first started watching cricket as a kid in late 70's. First two sessions in day light and last session after 40 minute tea break was under lights for 3.5 hours which same amount of time the night session is for a day/night ODI. I still do not understand why recent day/night Tests do not do this already.

Unfortunately we can’t keep playing the same teams. We played India and England away last year. There’s only 3 good test teams and we’re one of them.

IND ENG obviously keep visiting AUS every other year. Apart from them, it will be teams like NZ, PAK at times touring AUS for a Test Series. Teams like SL,BAN,SA won't be touring AUS anytime soon for reasons we all know
