Thanks for the review and I hope you don't mind me adding my own experience for the benefit of others: I've just fitted these guards to my 2021/22 Cannondale Topstone AL. I'm running 38mm Schwalbe Marathon tyres and opted for the Edge 46. They fit very neatly and I don’t know if I’d like to fit a 40mm tyre in there. Top tip (in case it isn’t obvious to others - it wasn’t to me): long stay to the front and short stay to the rear. I had to use one of the supplied plastic spacers to take up some space in the rear guard (lowest mounting between the chainstays - also the only fitting with no bolt supplied with the frame) and while SKS provide plenty of bolts they have quite prominent heads so I used a couple of lower-profiled bolts from my spares instead. The one thing I didn’t like so much was the mounting of the front guard up inside the forks; the hard aluminium is in direct contact with my carbon fork/paint so I applied several layers of tape to the inside of the fork arch to hopefully preserve it. Also, the top mounting position is to the rear of the fork under the headset and the aluminium bracket on the guard would be in direct contact with the paint on the carbon fork. I made up a thin plastic washer the hopefully keep the paint from scratching away. I’ve ridden with them once (on tarmac) and there is more noise from stones hitting the inside of the guards than I am used to from plastic guards. One minor rattle from the front end but the rear was completely silent. No complaints there. I might see about fitting a flap the bottom of each guard in due course. I have a longer set of SKS guards on another bike and my feet certainly don’t get as wet from the front wheel and no doubt others riding behind me will thank me for having longer guard at the rear.

I’ll also get the 46 for my Topstone AL. What do you think about the size/fit after some time? Do you think 46 is still a good fit or should I opt in for the bigger ones. Gonna use it with 38mm stock tire that came with the bike.

@@cerirey I've changed to 35mm Panaracer Gravel King Slicks & there is a good bit more clearance now. There were times with the 38mm Schwalbe Marathons that a minor bump or leaning the bike against something would result in the guard touching the tyre & requiring readjustment. These guards are noisy as they rattle & squeak so I ended up adding some padded tape at a couple of contact points such as in the fork crown. The rear guard could do with being longer & I'm considering fitting an extender, but that is more for the benefit of anyone riding behind me as they keep me dry enough. This bike has become my go-to bike for all year road riding now that I have some faster tyres fitted. The Schwalbe Marathons were very draggy & also punctured! I've only ever taken it off road for very short sections of gravel. If/ when I get myself a gravel bike it will be one with slacker geometry & room for wider tyres. But as a road bike I absolutely love it!

I have been looking at these on and off, as a possible replacement for my stock fenders. They do not seem as solid though.... that clip on attachment for the stays versus a bolt going through the fender, seems a bit flimsy. But perhaps it would prove to be one less point of corrosion over time? My stock alu fenders are showing their age very clearly, with chipped paint, scratches and corrosion causing the paint to well up and flake of. They are pretty ugly 😛But I am having a hard time finding a good replacement made specifically for 40mm tires. The old ones are also made with channels for wiring lights to dynamo hubs.

Thanks for the review. I am considering purchasing these but would like to take them off in the summer. How would these do if one planned to remove and reinstall them once or twice each year?

It's kind of a pain but doable, you have to pull the wheels off each time and then just unscrew them... I thought about getting something which clips on for that exact reason but it wouldn't provide as much coverage as these do.

Have you had any trouble with rattling/creaking coming from rear fender clip that mounts to the seat stays? Mine rattles quite a bit even after using rubber washers. I think it comes from the fender rubbing on the clip, not the mounting point to the seat stays.

No I haven't experienced that, I'm not home now to take a look at mine but I will next chance I get. Off the top of my head maybe it has something to do with the geometry of your bike? Or it needs to be tightened/loosened?

I actually bent the clip on my stock fenders, to avoid this. did when I found the best positioning, and never had an issue.

the 2 stays come in different lengths. is the longer stay for the front or back?

I know it’s been 3 months since you posted this but here it goes… The shorter stays are suppose to go on the front, longer ones on the back BUT I had issues with my Boardman where the short ones were too short for the front. I Googled these and found two other people had the same issues with their Boardman bikes. One put the shorter stays on the back. I tried this but while they worked, I was getting wheel rub as they came out of alignment after hitting a bump. It turns out after a bit more research another person had to purchase another set of longer stays that SKS sell separately to make it work for his Boardman. Your mileage may vary.
