I love the fact Skrillex got hated endlessly for making "brostep" and not adhering to the classic dubstep sound, now like 10 years later he releases this, full of songs heavily influenced by early dubstep. It really brings his career full circle. Also plenty of reggae influences which again harken back to dubstep's origins. Reading Soundcloud comments hating on the minimal atmospheric more simple dubstep sound now is really some sweet irony from the old comments I used to read about how "Mehh this isn't dubstep" now it's "Mehh this isn't Skrillex" Also not sure you mentioned A Street I Know but I am a sucker for Skrillex vocal chops and that song fills me with joy, even if it's not that ambitious

I'm a massive Skrillex fan, and started producing electronic music in 2011 when I was 15 because of him, which at this point is almost a trope of edm producers but it honestly demonstrates how innovative and impactful Skrillex was. I actually very closely agree with your criticisms on both albums, I actually agreed with virtually everything you noted. I think given the context of his hiatus (which he stated was from depression and introspection after years of neglecting his mental health) QFF is actually pretty solid. A ton of the records on that album have been projects from many years ago, and in a sense we're actually listening to a Skrillex from 3-4 years in the past. This does lead me to think of how a more developed Skrillex track after he regularly produces more consistently will sound, if that happens to be the case. In general I wish he was a little more adventurous with his sound design, which is the easiest way I can describe what feels lackluster to me. Beyond that I'm just happy to see him releasing again as well as being in a better state of mind. Edit: I just want to note that I'm happy he's doing his thing, but I actually cannot talk/listen/comment on the other album, it's either a) insanely bad, or b) not my cup of tea. It's more than likely some combination of the two, but o well not everything is gonna be good.

I'm in pretty much the same boat as you. QFF is good in terms of Skrillex releases and great in terms of current EDM releases, but part of me wishes it was a bit more 'wild', kind of like how SMNS was. Agreed though, it's great to see him still making music. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if QFF was already in the works around the end of Jack U. I like to think the DGTC album is more of a 'got to pay the bills' project than a passion project.

Fans of skrillex are coming to this album for his production, and I'm happy there's a lot of effort put on that rather than the vocals or lyrics (good thing skrillex didn't make an album where the production plays second-fiddle to not-very-good vocal performances. It would be a shame if he did that)

The new Skrillex album has two feelings in my first impression. The first is that this album feels like it was the first time Sonny got a 12" bass or something because the sub on these songs is just perfect. The mix feels so clean. It has this minimalism to it that I find hard to fully describe. The second is how this makes me nostalgic for the early 2010s dubstep. I listened to Bangarang, Scary Noise, and Recess before listening to this album; and I found this to feel like similar music but without the hard edges of the previous albums. It goes hard, but it feels lost in the past, worn out by time, pessimism, and change. That's the kind of nostalgia I feel. It's what The Midnight feels like to me as well. All the harsh edges of the past have worn off on me, leaving me tired. 10/10 - Dubstep for Doomscrolling

from a musicians and producers perspective, these albums are incredible. They're prime examples of using the basic producing and mixing fundamentals to achieve what most struggle with, even with the help of vast libraries that provide shortcuts (copy paste workflow), skrillex has once again flexed his understanding of music production. My Supersonic being the perfect example of how to keep a track fresh from start to finish, most people don't know that almost every bar (every 4 beats) in the track is unique to its previous. from a listeners perspective I can understand the dislike as I originally didn't like either album but after a little bit more of an attentive ear this sh*t is setting the bar for producers right now. also with the features, just because this guy either doesn't know of or like them doesn't mean they're limp features' its refreshing to see new and different features that show love to the lesser known artists involved.
