Skoota 28 powercatamaran by Woods Designs www.sailingcatamarans.com
You can build your own in plywood. Note: This video was taken after only 10 hours on the water. The cockpit seat backs have still to be finished and the forward net is temporary. The twin 20hp engines still need final positioning to obtain level trim at speed.

With the twin 20hps we have its about 16.5knots (see video) We normally cruise at 10-12. max engines are twin 60hp, giving 25 knots Hope that helps Richard Woods

Glad you like it - so do we! Did you check out the interior video kzread.info/dash/bejne/h3uLldOQmcWWgrQ.html We are thinking of taking the boat by road to Port Aransas this year. But it is a long drive as first we have to take the hulls down, then come back for the cabin, so about 10,000 miles total. From PA we would head east to Florida and the Bahamas

Thank you, we are very pleased. Even at 16 knots we only burn 3 gal an hour. Richard Woods

nice design of power cat does it has offshore capabilities or would this design be more suited to bays and estuaries??? also could this design also be adapted to have a sail ??? also as a power cat can the cabin be moved forward at all or would it cause the cat to dip into the waves???

Thank you for your comments. Like all small power boats the main limit is carrying enough fuel. So it depends on what you mean by "offshore". Coastal cruising yes, Florida to Bahamas, yes, English Channel yes, crossing Bay of Biscay - no. A 28ft powercatamaran should be as seaworthy as a 28ft sailing catamaran, and my 28ft Gypsy has made ocean crossings No, it is a power boat, so no sailing option, same as you wouldn't put a sail on a Searay or a Princess or trawler yacht I have now drawn a 30ft version which has the same cabin but longer cockpit, so in effect the cabin is further forward I hope that answers your questions Richard Woods

You can see more on my Skoota 28 powercat on this page www.sailingcatamarans.com/index.php/designs/6-powercats/264-skoota-28 and if you email me at woodsdesigns@gmail.com with questions I would be happy to answer them. There may be a delay of a few hours as right now I am living on board our Skoota in a marina with no wifi

Nice little boat. Am I missing somthing? you say twin 20s gets you 16.5 knots but the twin 60 only get 25. 200% increase in hp only get les than 10 extra knots. now I'm no marine engineer but that don't sound right. What am I missing?

+Mazda rx7 Oops , sorry, i just looked at the study plans. It's got displacement hulls, not planeing hulls, my bad, only so much speed you can get out of those regardless of horsepower

Thank you for watching. We have now cruised our Skoota over 6000 miles in British Columbia and the later after trailering it to Texas round the Gulf Coast to Florida and then the Bahamas. In all that time we have had no problems with the engines and aeration/cavitation. Hope that helps
