Skoolie Conversion: Are we Idiots?

So, We got our bus home and the work begins. We start gutting the bus by taking out all of the seats. Joe removes the rear heater. We rip up the water damaged flooring to discover the main floor is rusty but is still solid. Next we use a cold chisel and punch to remove 1000s of rivets from the walls and ceiling. After removing the insulation from the walls and ceiling we find leaks around the window seals and the seams of the roof/ceiling. We remove all the windows and clean up the old dried up sealant from the window seals. Joe has done mechanical work on the bus too such as installing a new thermostat , a new water pump, and all new radiator/coolant hoses. A winter storm rolls in putting our work to a halt. We are patiently waiting for warmer temps to come to southern Illinois so we can reseal the windows, stop the rust on the floor and continue to make progress on this dream.

Glad you moved to an angle grinder for those bolts! Makes the job worlds easier and you're getting rid of the floor anyway so an extra cut here and there won't matter. 😀

Hey guys, looking good! So I'm in Southern Indiana doing a shuttle bus build, at a winter standstill, its good to know I'm not the only one held up due to needing warm Temps for sealant and adhesive! Maybe ill see yall down the road!

It will be worth it - you will look back and ask each other 'how did we do all that?'.. Wife and I have just purchased a 4 window bus -- NO rust as it is from local school here in Texas. 3/4 of the new laminate floor is down - wife working on drapes. New recliner chair is in place for wife - that will be the only seat. Not going to convert it - we already have an ex-Greyhound bus that is a motorhome. Age: 86 (me -not the bus)

Progress has been slow but steady. We recently installed the skylight which went great! Getting all the leaks sealed has been challenging but we are finishing up with that while prepping the exterior for paint. Thanks Dan!
