    "And the award goes to . . . . . HatBoyHarvey . . . For the demonstration of consistently good and easily understood maintenance and repair methods, . . excellent camera work, lighting, presentation and narration." Like your Fabia, in spanking condition. You are the searchlight illuminating the merky depths of manufacturer and dealer concealed practice. After a number of "Amber" graded reports on the annual service, my 20 year old Fabia saloon is on the Restoration trail. Three items done so far, another 8 to do over the next 18 months . . Rear bump stops and springs, radiator temperature sensor and small engine oil leak, steering rack bushes, cabin head lining and windscreen replacement, cam belts and the infamous cabin air temperature flap. Hopefully, when that's completed it will be in better condition than somebody else's second-hand trouble.

  • @HatBoyHarvey

    This is very often not the glow plugs, but due to the rear tail and brake lights not working and the brake pedal switch mounted above the pedal under the dash. But if glow plugs then, is it hard to start, does it give out smoke?

    @@HatBoyHarvey hi no smoke starts fine runs fine. Says signal for Glow plug preheater control insufficient? I was thinking its the relay control unit? Thats what the diagnostics say. I am going to change the fuel filler cap as the tether us broken anyway. Im also going to ckean the MAF sensor with some MAF cleaner, Liquid Moly, Check the fuses, check for holes in air intake pipes, and get check the alternator voltage checked. Brake lights are fine. Decent video, wise to use the correct cleaner for the job, I've seen people use carb cleaner and brake cleaner and such and destroyed the sensor as it's very delicate and residue left on it will throw up the warning lamp on the dash.

    @@ellu999 you could use air i guess, but it probably wouldn't remove stuck on debris that well. The reason you use the spray is it guarantees not to leave any residue so you know it will leave you in no doubt it is perfectly clean which will help eliminate problems and help with diagnosis.

    Hi what brand sensor would you recommend if buying a new one, Bosch Lucas etc

  • @HatBoyHarvey

    @HatBoyHarvey

    3 жыл бұрын

    unfortunately most come with the housing which bumps up the price I think. Bosch ones are excellent, but you do have to pay for them, but how long are you going to keep the car, if only a few years then maybe a guaranteed one would be OK, if you have cleaned yours, tested it and not fixed the issue, make sure to look for other faults first before deciding to buy one, although it will eliminate one possible cause if replaced. Hope this helps :-)

    @@HatBoyHarvey i have the 2006 1.4tdi 6y 80 horsepower i love the car as i use it for deliveries but idling seems to be very poor plus a full tank of fuel shows me 480 miles but i don’t think I’m getting that. Also please make a video on a common fault with the brakes where they pulsate it’s like driving on ice sometimes some people have had callipers discs and pads changed but a new servo has solved the problem. I’m due an mot this month

  • @HatBoyHarvey

    @HatBoyHarvey

    3 жыл бұрын

    usually a change of discs and pads will eliminate any pulsating of the brake as the disc can warp if used heavily a lot, also change the brake fluid. If the pulsating is like ABS pulsating then this may need bleeding with running basic setting on vagcom or it could be faulty wheel speed sensors.

    Hello HatBoyHarvey; I hope you are safe and well? I assume a MAF Sensor is for the diesel version rather than petrol as I don't have one on my petrol MK1 Fabia...

  • @HatBoyHarvey

    @HatBoyHarvey

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yes, I'm ok and staying safe (difficult times). The diesel has MAF, you will have a MAP sensor on the intake somewhere, which measures pressure and does a similar job, causes the same symptoms also. Worth careful cleaning of the whole intake throttle body parts if you have issues :-)

    MAP sensor issue, look for leaks on intake side by checking for visible signs of pipe leaks. splitting, damage, corroding etc. use brake cleaner sprayed on suspect areas and see if engine rises in revs slightly. damage to wiring to MAP sensor, water ingress, test MAP sensor wiring for power, ground, signal voltage, change MAP sensor.

    Yes, you could use pure alcohol, but the spray gives you a jet to blast away any debri so there is more chance no deposits are left. And if you say alcohol to some, they may be tempted to get the whiskey out! :-)
