    Helpful hint(s) follow - I hope. Thanks for a very useful video explaining how to do this job. It's very tricky getting in there to remove the resistor pack (and I have small hands) - but I found it almost impossible to get the damn thing back in. Cold day, knock off to warm hands and think... so I removed the cable (make a note of the colour of the nearest wire), and found it very much easier to get the resistor pack back into place without the cable pressure. Cable back in (fine long nose pliers handy for this) and the job's done. Helpful hint 2 - I was struggling to hold the glove compartment up whilst replacing the screws.. duh... empty the ton of junk out first ... sometimes we miss the obvious!

    Hello Harvey, Thank you for your video, it was very helpful when my resistor controller worked only on number four. I changed the whole resistor. A strange thing happened after that. Shortly after that one cold morning I started my Fabia and noticed that the fan wasn't working anymore even though I changed it with a brand-new one a few days before. What I did then was to change only the little element on top of it(only 0,90 st in Bulgaria) Bought three of these just in case. Shortly after that, on another cold morning, the same thing occurred. I already knew that something else was causing this and the problem was not the resistor itself. Changed it one more time. Now I switch the vent knob to zero before I start the engine(I did not do that before, always on 1 or 2), thinking that if it's set on while starting the car, the total amount of electric current for a moment maybe is overloading this little element on the first cold start. So that might be causing the issue itself. No problem until a few days ago when the vent heater started to sound agonizing like it was screaming and dying. Now I already knew what was happening. The bearing of the vent heater is destroyed, causing this awful sound, and the electric motor inability to sping freely eventually applies additional resistance to the whole electric system of the fan heater itself. The resistance(or impedance, not sure) maybe is overloading the whole circle causing the resistor to burn. Long story, but I thought it would be interesting to share this. My question is, is there a way to change only the bearings of this little motor or do I need to buy a whole new one with fan? Thanks in advance!

     @HatBoyHarvey Hey there! Thank you for your time! The issue is fixed and the new blower motor works well and quiet, with minimum noise. I'm very happy with it now. Thinking of this part being in the car for the last 18 years it did a pretty good job for this time. Time for the old blower motor to retire, there is nothing more I should want from it, haha. Thank you for all of your amazing videos. I know so much for my fabia now and you saved me alot of money for a repair. And most important, I love the details of your videos and how carefully everything is being removed and placed back without being broken. That is the main reason I always wanted to do the precise repairs on my car by myself. Knowing that I will put time and effort to figure out how to remove something without beaking it, while in the car shop repair, the mechanic will be less carefull i think. Now it's time to figure out from where is the boot leak on my fabialous car, it's gonna be a tough one :D !

  • @HatBoyHarvey

    @HatBoyHarvey

    Have a look to see if the rear footwells are wet, this is a common fault in the fabia and most likley be the cause of the condensation. If no heat check the flapper motor is working and all sensors. OBD2 code reader may help here. To remove the matrix you will need to take off the centre console which I do have a video on: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oZuJw6eRZ6vRoco.html . Drain the system, clamp the hoses to the matrix and blow out contents before removing inside car and replace with new O rings.

  • @HatBoyHarvey

    @HatBoyHarvey

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks, you're welcome.The good news is your AC is working, but appreciate not very well. Over time these systems very slowly leak refrigerant and older cars more so. Pumps on older cars fail, but from what you say yours is working. Finding leaks is difficult and can take time. In your case I would just refill the system with more refrigerant (may be illegal in some countries to do this yourself) with some dye and sealer to first get it working better and also check for leaks (if any can be found) You can purchase pre-prepared bottles to do this or have it done. Be aware not to leak refrigerant into atmosphere. The instructions are on the bottle, just need to attach it to the low pressure filling port (it will only fit on the correct one) and squeeze, get as much in as possible (can't overfill as can pressure stops this). To do a better job you need to remove refrigerant legally by specialist autoshop, replace the dryer, vacuum the system and fill to correct weight, which because is quite involved (I know as I've done it) is better for a specialist to do. Hope to do a video sometime. hope this helps :-)

Ok if you have a Good code reader. You need to get the radio code at some stage, you can get this online quoting the serial number, or fit a new unit with code given :-)

    You can't just take this out without gettting the car emptied of refridgerant responsibly. This has to be done by an AC garage, most can collect the gas for you for a small fee. Once done there are other things to consider such as evacuating the system with a Vpump, changing the receiver drier, re-charging it, putting in the correct amounts of oil, refridgerant, sealer/dye.

    They use a heater core mounted at the bottom of the HVAC system. A radiator essentially. But there was an option for auxiliary heating, but very few have this and uses a lot of batty power. The heat temp you want is controlled by the knob on the control panel by demand to the desired temp using the various sensors or overridden by turning knob to full hot or cold. Often on Fabia model car gets stuck on hot or cold due to a faulty flapper motor.

    once these become worn out it is best to replace them with a new or second hand part (yours sound like a worn bearing). You say it makes a noise only when putting it back on, so make sure it is on correctly first. I tied to show how it's put back on, but it isn't that easy to decribe and a bit of a fiddle to do, watch the vid closely and make sure it seats right before tightening. If it is a dry bearing it would make noise and if it is at that stage then this would wear out the bearing causing play. They have to be perfect to make no noise, like computer fans I guess. Make sure the serial/part numbers match when buying a new or pre-used one as some are for none aircon.

It sounds like a high pitch hum. The vent speed doesn't seem to effect the sound. If i turn the heater off the noise stops but the different speed settings doesn't effect the sound that it makes. Just got the car so a bit low on finances to start bringing it to the shop. If you have any thoughts about it i would love to hear them. Sounds like you need some anti-bacterial spray to kill any fungus that builds up inside the air ducts and evaporator. I've never done it so not sure which product to use. I'll look into it and maybe make a video. Scotty Kilmer recommends 'lysol' sprayed into the vent intakes

    If the fan speed works OK I wouldn't change it. I have had the same fault, which went away a day later. I haven't yet found a definitive answer to why this happens only guessing it could be the main heater control unit or it's connections at the back. I've had mine out, disconnected it a couple of times and re-connected it and that fault hasn't returned, but it might not be that at all anyway. The vent air flapper motor for hot and cold goes faulty on these so that is something to be aware of. I haven't yet done a video on that yet as fitting new ones may need re-calibrating with VAGCOM :-)

    This is often down to the informous flapper-motor for hot/cold getting stuck, if pressed you can take part of the dash out and move it by hand to hot for a temp fix, whilst accessing it 'test it's operation and you may see if it is temperamental or not. Certainly do a coolant flush and a separate heater core flush, change the thermostat. OBD2 diagnostics will highlight any sensor failure elsewhere, but you can clean the cabin temp sensor with a brush. As long as you don't have the AC button pressed a dead AC pump won't effect the heater circuit :-)

    Firstly check if there is somthing touching the fan like leaves. If it is the motor/bearing then in theory you could grease it, but I guess this may not last very long as the bearing will be worn. I've never done that. You would have to take it out and try to get at the bearing and may have to dismantle it. I don't know if the bearing can be replaced, but my gut feeling is it maybe housed in plastic and either not possible or not worth doing as replacing the fan is easier and not too costly if you choose a none OEM unit :-)

    If it works on 4, but not the lower settings you know there is power to the new sensor so that can safely eliminate it. I would clean the cabin sensor and check the connections on the temp sensor behind the control unit/or replace that as well. Check all cables/connections/continuity.You could try using OBD2 vagcom or other which may or not narrow it down if you have access to that. The actual switch or fan may be faulty, but I doubt it. I beleive the heater/vent control unit module can be reset, which may work and you know the infamous flapper motor gets stuck with heat build up and age and could possibly cause cause the system to malfunction. Check, test and replace is the only thing I can offer I'm afraid, hope this helps and you're able sort it eventually:-)

Check battery has good charge 12.6V and 14V+ when charging. Fan resister speed control goes and is cheap to replace. Hi , so I tryed to fix it myself . 1. I measured if the Resistor Pack is broken or it has blown fuse , as show in this video : kzread.info/dash/bejne/fomC2NyyptGeeps.html&t . It turned out that my resistor pack are all ok in terms of their resistance , they had blown fuse . So I changed resistor pack fuse , as shown in this picture : ibb.co/g418c1H the fuse is combinated fuse 10A and 216C you need to make sure that the body of fuse doesnt touch the two middle points . 2. I took the heater fan out of the car using your tutorial , there was no debree in the place of the fan , but the fan was cowered with dust , so i took the whole motor out and tried to clean it as much as possible . Then I put some engine oil (5W-40 was only oil that I had at home) on the bearings . Here is video that I followed on how to take the engine out of that plastic holder , It is in russian and it is diferent motor but the principle is the same video : kzread.info/dash/bejne/k59mtcqgaKa4org.html . Here are the photos of the bearings : bottom one (you can acces it only if you take out the motor from holder ) : ibb.co/nQynxq9 this bearing was full of black powdery dust so I gived it good clean . The top bearing is pain , but you should get sense of how to take the fan part out and oil it . I used long siringe to get the oil on bearing photo : ibb.co/dDNXWwb the bering is just under the white part . 3. The fan part that white pastic was too covered in black dust so cleaned it as much as I could , I used minimum water becouse I thought that water will damage the motor , but you can use water and then spray it out with compressed air . Here is video from russian mechanic on how to clean the motor for good kzread.info/dash/bejne/i3WX0MemitKelNY.html , I understand just little russian but he shows it perfectly , in my case I do not have compressor so I did not use as much water . The I just let the whole fan dry out , and instalet it back in the car . But now the fan vibrates on 3 and 4 speed . I don t know why , I checked it holds good in that plastic , I think that I need to again take it out and trim the fan white part . becouse it was hard to get all dust out of it , and I think that now it is out of ballance or something . I may just buy the new one , but I just wanted to fix it myself , but it s pain in ass :D I m just trying to save extra 90euros for new fan that s all :D My fabia is mk1 2005 . And the fan is factory one .

    You can use a test light. £2.00ish from motor factors (looks like a small screwdriver with wires on) or attach/solder two pieces of wire to a small 12v lamp, one end on the connector turn the switch on, the other to ground. Hope this helps :-)
