    there is no way that compressor is pulling 10kW. that would give it 40kW+ of cooling power. there is no way that system can do that. a compressor that can actually do that will not even fit under the hood. (source: i work in commercial HVAC and work on big compressors)

    I recently did a 9200km roadtrip with a Cupra Born (i.e. an id3), large parts of which was in Spain (just before the major heat wave though), and I also experienced extremely limited charging speeds after just 5-10min while you could hear the car running its AC on full trying to keep the battery cool. Besides the potential software update that I guess could mitigate the issue somewhat, I'm still mind-blown why almost no chargers have roofs like any gas-station would; not only would it help keep batteries at optimal temperatures, the chargers themselves obviously have to cool down as well in the blistering sun (pulling power, even if not necessarily limiting charging speed, it's inefficient). And this is besides the fact that in most places, there is the thing called rain as well...

    I think the test should always carried out with the cabin kept to a comfortable temperature whilst charging - in winter or summer. People will often want to stay in the car when charging. If that means a battery overheats, then so be it. That’s real life.

    What you need to do is check your Air Temperature / Ambient, which might be 30 *oC or so, but that is about 4-6 feet above the ground level. Measure 'Ground Temperature' as we get in the UK weather readings. So the Ground / Track Temp might be like in France at the F1, 50*oC. The battery is about 1 foot above the very hot ground sitting charging and the car is in the sun not in the shade. Only the car shading the ground. So measure the Air Temp between the Ground and the cars bottom.

    Hey Bjørn, Can you explain how electricity prices are in Norway? Generally I hear Norway is super expensive to live in, and I heard in a previous video of yours that you apparently generate 90%+ of your power from hydro generation.. Does that mean you have cheap electricity? And in that case, do the prices translate over to public chargers, Ionity, Superchargers etc etc? Like, compared to your trips to Sweden or other countries you've visited?? It's more a question regarding the state of prices in Norway, rather than an EV / charging question.. I'm generally interested in cost of living around the world :) Cheers from Dänemark

I think I also would have tried supercharging with the Enyaq at the last stop in the video, parking may be hard but somehow it will work, it always does. Ionity really is not a great network nowadays. Seems like there is something wrong with this battery. It is getting way too hot for the ambient temperature and the relatively conservative charging speeds VW uses, and it is requiring too much energy to cool it down. Even if the power consumption that the app is listing for AC compressor is incorrect (probably is), the temperature split between the inlet and the battery itself is too high. Seems like the cooling efficiency is poor. Also, I disagree with your assessment that Tesla uses air-to-liquid cooling for the battery. It uses the AC system exclusively. I’ve tested that on my own Model 3. It wouldn’t make sense to use exterior air to cool the battery, especially during the summer or warmer climates because the temperature split isn’t high enough.

    Because Norwegians don't know lane discipline. And Norwegians don't like being flashed at from behind. To avoid road rage, it's best to just overtake the Norwegians on the right lane (even though it's illegal - but remember that hogging the left lane is also illegal).

  • @bentmatt

    @bentmatt

    @@bjornnyland really? 🤔 Id say overtaking on the right is pretty dangerous because people might forget checking in the right mirror for traffic from behind once they stop hugging the left lane and switch to the right lane again. If people feel that I hog the left lane, then I'd much rather have them blink at me than overtake on the right. But usually they don't need to blink at me, since I know how they feel when they follow me at like 4 meters distance (morons) even when I'm going at the speed limit or above when I'm overtaking. In that situation I do my best to get out of the way of those maniacs as fast as possible.

    @@bentmatt I would literally have to flash 90 percent of all road users in that case. They join the motorway and immediately move to either the middle lane or the left lane. Therefore I’m often two lanes over from them when I pass them on the right, so the risk of them colliding with me is very small I reckon. It really is a very strange driving culture in that sense. It’s like the lanes are reversed, so all the overtaking is done on the right and all the slower cars are in the middle or left…
