Trauma, and generational trauma in a lot of these cases, is at the root of so many problems. This country needs a huge investment in free, easy access, mental health care. Without support and compassion millions of people like this are just doomed to fail. This is really heart breaking.

Totally agree, I lost my job by going into a coma, had to move back in with my mum. I got very depressed loosing my independence. She then got cancer and passed away. I was lost having no where to go, but I was lucky and found a service called Richmond Fellowship that took me on and put me in supportive housing, with support workers, looking out for me day to day, getting me ready for living on my own again, getting my confidence back up. But so many people fall through the cracks, never get the right help to change, struggle and never change their mindset to make any positive change. Some people at some point in their live need support and guidance as their mindset is in the wrong place, leaving them struggling is just going to keep them down.

Total disaster is closer than everyone thinks, particularly if you're skint and uneducated. The system is build to neglect those folk! That is unfair when they can't figtht back, that's why it's so easy to find yourself fucked in modern day Britain.

Trauma is actually the cause of most mental illness as well, trauma or absence and neglect (which is a form of trauma).

Your comment contains the words 'free, easy, care, support and compassion' With great respect - those 5 words are exactly why the UK has millions on the dole. It's 'easier' than working for a living, you get money for 'free', taxpayers like me 'support' you, ........ you see where I'm going with this?

Me and my other half struggled. I was one of these people, i always worked, always paid my way, but my mum and dad were very wealthy and would always bail me out... even when i said not to. The down side too that was they wanted too know EVERY aspect of my life, from my money, account balance, where i went, what i did. My dad was lovely but very controlling... even as an adult. I lived in Portsmouth, met the guy i am with now... and we wanted too move to Brighton. My dad didn't like it, didn't like that i was with someone he didn't like.... tried to constantly split us up as did my mum. Telling lies, spreading rumours about him. We moved to Brighton and my dad said if you go, i wash my hands of you. We went and my god it was tough. We were sleeping on floors of bedsits that were not being used, finally got a job, we both paid all we had on the ridiculous rent in Brighton at the time (2008), we lived on pasta, gravy and tinned peas for months and were totally skint. But.... slowly and surly we saved money, got better jobs, worked our way up and survived. Now, we are both 42, my other half 43 in September, we live up in Dingwall, in Scotland. I have my own nail business, my other half has his own painting business, we have a lovely home, 2 nutty cats, massive TV's, game consoles..... nice furniture, enjoy good food and take outs, living a good normal life. When we look at what we have now, compared to then! It is night and day and we actually chat about the tough times and laugh about it, the mess we were in. What is funny, everyone saying we wouldn't make it as a couple, here we are, still together while everyone else around us crumbled and split. Times can be tough! But i hate these people that have self pity on here! Complain about being skint, yet find money for fags, booze and drugs! That is a wimp cop out! You CAN CHANGE YOUR SITUATION. We were jobless, homeless and very close too giving up... but we did it! and we are nothing special but we just refused too let the system and life get us down. We could have given up! Said screw this and what money we did have, turn to drugs and drink, but what would be the point? You just wallow in self pity, get in more debt and continue to spiral into massive mental health issues and debt, then blaming everyone else and the system for your crappy situation. Always push forward too better yourself and your situation, quit the fags, drink and drugs and better your life, because nobody else will, and once you have made it, have a stable income, lovely home and possessions, it makes you feel so proud.

I get you 100%..... parents that don't treat you like an adult. My mum used to rearrange my kitchen etc....and i once came home to find they (her and step father) had decorated my sons' bedroom .....without my permission. THEN i had to deal with my narcissistic ex h being angry about it when he came home.... this sort of shit happened quite a lot. They never ever gave me credit for anything and i was 48 before i stopped seeking their approval. So glad you got past all your hurdles. Good luck to you both 🌹🌹

It represents the reality most people face living here to this day. We go into into double dip recession and good old Conservatives decide rather than pull up the tax ovoiders like garry Barlow and Google, they strike the poorest peoples mostly single mothers and disabled. It's easier to be a lay about drug addict than a honest working human being. Being there so I am speaking from experience, got back into education and now I run my own small business. I grew up in a big family poor as fuck by the age of 25 I'd lost 4 family members. Would have been easier to just shove a needle in my arm until the day I die. The world owes me nothing but i owe the world respect. If you want to better yourself and your life its up to you to do so and not up to others to do the hard work for you.

  • @newchapterbegins

Not really a traumatic upbringing then is it. So no it’s no reason to stick anything in your arm. This the problem peoples idea of trauma and struggles are very wrong. Death is guaranteed and is the only thing you no for definite will happen to you and everyone you love. I’ve lost more friends and family by the time I was 25 was crazy. But wait till you e suffered serious life changing trauma, I’ve been a drug addict most my life, two years clean now. I feel like giving up everyday because I can’t cope with my mental health disorders. I could go back on drugs but at what cost! Probably feeling just as I do now. Life’s hard but you can play the victim, no one cares. 80% don’t care, 20% are pleased it’s you!

Priorities guys, they get their dole money and it's straight to the fish shop? Why not get some food and top up on your electricity. I'm assuming they have to top-up rather than pay monthly? Then they wonder why theres never any money. I know drugs are not easy to get off, but I don't see them even trying. What are their long term plans, it's literally a day-to-day existence.

I don't undetstand how they can miss their appointments at the dole it's not as though they are doing anything. The very thing they need to survive they can't be bothered and get sanctioned. Finding it hard to feel anything for most of them.

That's well over double the amount. When i have been sick and not able to work i've lived quite comfortably on the dole in Ozz.
