Told this story a few times recently but one of my best mates (Craig B. from Lincolnshire, Blunt Smoke Crew!) used to hang with Skinny a bit back when he was really popping off (I remember seeing him myself with Mud Family at Fresh '98)....they were outside his block and Skinny had like an hour or summat to be in the studio to lay down a track. He gave one of the little youths from his ends a fiver to get him some chicken rice and peas and the kid goes to get his food. My mate said skinny had this battered Poska and a big-ish piece of cardboard he's found, thinks for a few minutes then starts writing. Little youth came back with the food in about twenty-odd minutes and Skinny had written a FULL TUNE. Not just a verse, but like three verses AND choruses. Had time to roll and smoke a spliff before the munchies came through too. Myself I saw him go through about 12 emcees like a knife through butter, when freestyle WAS FREESTYLE--Skinnyman can go on for fucking DAAAYYYSSSSS MAN. OH--and he fucking BODIED COMMON--ON MAN'S OWN STAGE!!!!

@@The-X-Territory Unfortunately was not there for the Common gig (never rated him too hard, tbh) but Skinny's absolute destruction of Common on the mic became the stuff of legends. Ask any old head from that time (I think it was '99/2000) and they'll tell you how Common's face started to slowly, almost imperceptibly fall as he realised this wasn't some fucking amateur. I think he could have done one on Supernatural and taken his ring off him. Not that ring, his ITF ring, you dirty bastards EDIT: Yo, anyone readin this I'm open to correction, times, dates--I'm startin to doubt myself now that it was actually Skinny who bodied Common and not Chester P. or his Bro? My profuse apologies 'cause I fuckin' rate all those fellows; alst I really rmember that (from scene word of mouth, written reports, cats who were there) that at one point Common got so fucking flustered he came out with "You can't rap anyway, 'cause you're white" which got booed tf by the crowd...seeing as he's kind of just proven he could not only emcee but taken on, and obliterate, one of the most famous rappers in the whole fucking game at that point! No diss intended if it was Chester P. or his Brother's name who I always fucking forget, SORRY 🙏, but I'd love someone to clear this up. I think I was AT the gig when he came back home and asked the crowd who had his album--Big Daddy Kane was on (Rodney P. strutting around like a dick whose head couldn't fit through the door, only giving time to friends from THE LAHNDAHN SCENE and attractive ladies; generally being a real arrogant c**t ) on the bill, my memories scrambled, if you're reading this and remember hit me up, please!

remember seeing skinny man in like 2006. Wasn't a huge fan before but he smashed the show and changed my mind. listening to this interview has given me even more respect for the guy. Seems to have grown up and formed some solid, informed opinions about life that hold a lot of weight. UK OG being bare humble and spreading some positive levels.

I think i could afford 1 pair maybe at the time. 😂 big up Skinny Legend MC
