After dishing out thousands of euros in trying to get my skin to look even and bright, I decided to change things radically. Just started doing this routine a week ago. Rosacea, outbreaks, dryness and patchiness is already gone. I use Cerave cleanser with a soft brush in the evening, I follow with the classic blue Nivea cream, and in the morning I just rinse my face with cool water and follow with Cerave cream with SPF. My skin is very even in color, no outbreaks, no redness...I don't think my skin has been looking and feeling this good in 20 yrs. Easy, simple and cheap seems to be the way to go.

This video is actually the cornerstone of everything or as we all the the very "beginning" the actual "START". Doctor Andrea once again debunks the whole complicated concept of difficult or overly high budget costly skincare routines. Simplicity is the key cleanse with mild fragrance free cleanser and then basic moisturizer and as a final touch or a dash of perfection i would say is the holy Sunscreen either be chemical or mineral. Reminding us something this important is crucial and essential to the core. Thanks once again Miss Andrea may you have a wonderful magical happy Tuesday only with smiles, laughs and lots lots of love and care. 💖💎💙😇🙏😊☺☀😁🙏

What is the purpose of putting a moisturiser under your sunscreen, because I’ve seen so many people doing it? Most products marketed as sunscreen are basically moisturisers with added UV filters, so if you wanted to simplify your routine, why do this extra step? I’m not criticising it or saying it’s wrong, by the way, I’m just genuinely curious why so many people basically put on two different moisturisers in the morning - one with SPF and one without.

I have changed my skincare routine gradually to the routine Dr. Dray explained in this video and it has just made all the difference! I've been doing it for about a year now: Double cleanse, moisturize, sunscreen. My skin has just gotten sooo good! Easily the best it every was. Also, because it's been going so great, I have started incooperating niacinamide into my routine and there have been no problems. I can only recommend watching Dr. Drays video of how she does her own skincare routine. This has originally inspired me to change mine + it is so well explained. Thank you a lot, Dr. Dray! :D
I am fully invested in your videos - I love the science you present and you explain it so well. Thank you for mentioning Tik-Tok and other influencers. Getting back to basics with our skin is essential. One year ago my skin barrier was very weak. I'm an educated consumer so I got back to basics and added the Avene Lipid Replenishing Balm. This was literally a game changer for me! I will be 65 in April. The difference this product has made is significant. My skin is no longer tight feeling and my fine lines are greatly diminished. I wanted to share. I love your videos!
This video is like a refreshed/ modern take on your earlier videos! Love the back to basics theme in more was than one!

Dr. Dray is once again 100% on the mark! About two weeks ago I went "back to basics" to combat the cold weather and dry indoor heating in NYC. I use Vanicream facial cleanser at night, then the Vanircream daily moisturizer. Daytime is the same moisturizer along with the Vanicream sunscreen. And if it's really dry out, I use the Inkey List's Urea face cream. My "active" is the Inkey List's collagen peptide serum once a day. And wow, my skin is smooth, hydrated and dewy. I will try to stay on this regime and not be tempted by the last "it" creams and ingredients.

Such good advice. I notice my skin looks the best when I have the least amount of products daily. I also make sure to give my skin a rest from topical treatments and only use a moisturizer after cleansing the next day or two depending on what my skin needs. It’s not about hitting the number of products in a routine, it’s about giving your skin what it needs (and doesn’t ) to support it’s natural barrier.

I saw this video when it first came out and have been following this simple routine ever since + adapalene every other day for controlling my acne. I came back to say this.Dr Dray, you change lives. You changed the appearance of my skin. I am no longer ashamed to go make-upless, no longer self-conscious. Thank you! ❤
Loved this video because I did this quite intuitively before starting Tretinoine, and it is going so well (with a dry sensitive skin). My skin Barrier was broken from super Quick change un the weather + glycolic acid mask 😅 what saved me was the Aveeno calm and restore range + slugging with aquafor ! After that my skin was so hydrated and smooth (even textured acne scars were Smoothed out) that I decided to give Tret a try and it’s been going great (only two weeks in with one application a week)
I'm definitely going to be doing a skincare reset, thanks for this! ❤

Thank you, Dr Dray! what about a Moisturizer with SPF all in one? I use (and really like) La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair UV SPF Moisturizer for Face, Daily Facial Moisturizer with Sunscreen SPF 30. I usually put it on after SC Triple Lipid Cream.
I've gone back to the basics myself. No more high end creams that i just wasted money on. I use Cetaphil gentle wash and Cerave moisturizer. I use Cerave healing ointment on extra dry spots, my feet overnight, and my lips. My skin is bright and feels good. Even with this colder weather.
Your information is great! Thank you so much 😊
I found this routine on your channel last fall, helped me prep for BBL Hero Laser treatment after Christmas. My skin recovered beautifully and I’m very pleased with my results, will continue this from now on. Just added back in the retinols. The more I've gotten into skincare, the less I'm spending, and the more boring it's gotten. I used to want all they super hyped ingredients. Now I just want as few as possible. My favorite ingredient now is petrolatum. And Vanicream has become my go-to brand. Definitely can't say enough about their cleanser.
Thanks a lot for that!
Dr. Dray, thank you so much. I'm 41 and started to notice a) more irritation and dryer skin, b) confusion around a gazillion actives. Now I rely on Eucerin Advanced repair, Eucerin 50SPF sunscreen, and - every other night - Differin plus a Cos de Baha peptide serum. All irrition is gone and my skin is glowing. Might switch Differin for tret next year, but otherwise I'm so happy, thanks to you!
Dr Dray! Do you have any videos where you discuss panoxyl? Love your content!! ❤
The Cetaphil Hydrating Foaming Cream Cleanser is SOOOOO good. Try it if you have issues with CeraVe like I do (everything I've tried irritates my skin). Even better than my holy grail, Vanicream's face cleanser.
Thank you for all you do Dr Dray. Really struggling to get back to even basic cleansing. My skin has become so stripped and raw, that I can’t use water on my face at all, even with all the suggested gentle cleansers. Think it’s a combination of the wetness and the friction created on my face, even using very very gentle fingertips. As a result cotton pads and cloths are also an absolute no. My skin will just not tolerate it or even the rinsing with luke warm water. I get the same reaction if I try to massage in wet moisturiser. Coming up to my third visit to a dermatologist and I’m no further on in healing my skin barrier after almost 4 months. I’m at a loss as I can’t even cleanse my skin so my face continually gets stripped and inflamed. What do I do when I can’t do the first stage - cleansing - of skin priming to begin to heal my skin? Am absolutely desperate

I’m wondering if it is the type of water you’re using? Do you think maybe using distilled water may help instead of tap water?
I would be interested to see some analysis of mineral sunscreen pH levels and their impact on the skin barrier. I have tried to only use mineral sunscreens for a long time, but I find that they tend to have high pH (I don’t even have sensitive skin and I felt a burning sensation from Babo, which I then litmus tested around pH9); I have seen it mentioned in a few places that mineral sunscreens tend to be formulated with high pH because it improves their SPF testing results, but I am concerned about the impact a high pH topical has on skin barrier and raising the skin’s pH. Even brands I like that pH balance their products and are transparent about pH values, like Humanrace, have mineral sunscreens with pH I would view as high as enough to hypothetically bring the skin’s surface pH out of the acidic range. I’m wondering if this is a valid concern, or if maybe moisturizers underneath the sunscreen form a protective enough layer to allow skin to maintain an ideal pH. Can you provide some more context around this? I haven’t found any good information around it.
My skin needs a reset so I'm taking notes! Dealing with a large, very visible pimple at the moment. I'm too old for this! 😩 Thanks, Dr Dray! Happy Tuesday!! Hope you have a restful evening. 💙

This is the first time I am actually looking forward to doing less: I feel I mix and match to many products, my skin is more irritated now then it was before my advent calendar shopping😆 I don’t see that new shopping feature yet, sounds good though!
I never had a skincare routine until recently. I've tried basics like 2 years ago, but it was very inconsistent. I'd do it like once every other week or so.. But starting Decembern2022, I purchased a skincare box with a cleanser, toner, chemical exfoliant, serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen. I started using that twice everyday, except the exfoliant. I think it's been irritating my skin. My skin is always pink/red, in both my cheeks area and my chin area. Some days it's less irritated, some dares are more. I feel like it's always been a little pink, with also being a healthcare worker, I have to wear a mask 9 hours a day, the friction of the masks on top of all these skincare products are further irritating my skin even more.. I just purchased cotton masks from amazon, hoping they will help and currently am trying to go back to the basics, hoping further along, I'' be able to use toners, exfoliants, and serums and benefit from them instead of being irritated by them lol.

@@raghdaaazizz4706 oh I’ve been using differin(retinoid) for a few months now. I started the retinoid to get my skin ready for a light peel. I’m going to do a glycolic peel. Right now I do differin nightly and work to break my skin picking habit but Eventually my routine will be Day 1: Differin 2: BHA Exfoliant 3: Recover 4: Recover 5: Glycolic Peel 6: Recover 7: Recover Begin again So I’ll end up doing a light peel on a weekly basis, basically exfoliating 3x a week, and deep hydration 4x times a week Once I’m use to that routine then later on in the year I want to do a big TCA peel
I've honestly been struggling with my skin and hair recently, and I've gone through the biggest rollercoaster about natural products, diy products, and the absolute abundant amount of myths around something that shouldn't be so hard to come up with. I have done so much research and had some hesitance with hyper refined products and you've completely changed my perspective. I was literally going down the path of unrefined products that, as you said, have an insanely large amount of other inactive or even actively harmful chemicals that would basically negate the effects that we are after. I'm just floored here. I bought a handful of vials of oils (rosehip, grapeseed, tamanu, neem, moringa, 2 butters, etc) along with vitamin e antioxidant and I was hoping to make a balm and a simple hair oil but now I'm hesitant. I'd love to hear some feedback about what I can do about all these fresh vials now

I've been using a few drops of vegetable oils at night over my moisturizer, for about a year, and never noticed any side effects; quite the opposite. They boost hydration and calm my skin. Of course, you only want to use a couple of drops. As for everything, moderation is key 🙂.
Thanks Dr Dray. In 2021-2022, I went overboard with the amount of skincare products I was using and compromised my skin barrier and relapsed with cystic acne. Simplifying my routine to a gentle cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen from a brand I like, La Roche Posay, AND getting dermatologist treatment for my acne have helped me heal my skin. It’s been a journey but I’ve learnt my lesson that sometimes less is more ❤️ it’s a good feeling being once again comfortable in my own skin, literally
I had a thought about a topic I haven’t heard you address. I’m diligent about my whole skin care routine but I have been having breakouts beneath my eye sockets. I’m 76 so this was unexpected. I wear glasses and I just realized that I haven’t been cleaning my frames as carefully as my skin. Duh. I’m just recontaminating my face! Now I take my glasses into the shower to give them a scrub.

Are they milia? Can be your eye cream…
I have a much better grip on my skincare because of your guidance. I have quickly fixed irritation and dryness with my skin by following your advice. My skin looks amazing for the first time in my adult life. I'm 30 and my skin has never been clearer or healthier.

Which moisturizer fixed irritation and dryness?
OK I have been watching your videos andcI absolutely love how informative you are. I like to keep things simple. I would greatly appreciate if you could just suggest the best products I should be using. I'm almost 60 in part 3 of menopause. Dry skin. Large pores, some redness, fine lines, I'm over whelmed. I travel in a semi with my husband. So I am limited to where I can shop so basically walmart and Walgreens are easy for me to get into. Also I'm on a budget. Please help.
Always enjoy your insight, snd your dollar tree finds if they are “worth” it

I am going to teach my young children about this! Hopefully save they lots of money on products they don’t need and set them up to understand the importance of a healthy skin barrier. Thanks Dr Dray. This should be taught in schools. Teenagers struggle with skin so much.

Thank you Dr. Dray for all the terrific skin advice, you have helped me tremendously. I recently started retinol and to help with irritation, I've tried slugging with LRP cicaplast and its cut down on irritation. I've been trying to find the answer in past videos if I should wash my face in the am after slugging?. I do a thorough face wash in the pm but in the am, I normally just use cool water.

The bar soap explanation 😱🙏🏾
I had breakouts a few weeks ago because of the hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, fragrances that are with some skincare products that I use, using facial cleansers with fragrance twice a day etc omg and my face is full of breakouts, and it is REEEED! A few days ago I got back to basics like ALL is fragrance free like cleanser and I use it only at night I now only wash my face with water in the morning, facial moisturizer AVEENO such a good brand they have a moisturizer that has ceramide and panthenol and of course only sunscreen at morning and omg MY SKIN IS SOOOOO GOOD RIGHT NOW LIKE I CANNOT BELIEVE IT SO THEN I REALIZED ALWAYS PAY ATTENTION to you Skin Barrier and everything will follow. Wear sunscreen!
I was using retinoids that were stronger than they should have been. It was fine for awhile, but then, especially around my mouth and lips (I didn’t even put any on them), began to peel and my lip had sore patches on them. I’m still dealing with it and learned a good lesson about taking things too far. My skin is normally very tolerant, but it can happen to anyone and there are reasons why drugs come at maximum strengths.

I'm curious what you were using and how often. I just started with retinol so very interested in your comment

@@shawnee. I started correctly -retinol for a year, differing for a couple of months, then on to retinoids. 0.025%, then, 0.05% and then at 0.1%. It was fine until I got into a facility where I could make retinoids stronger than they manufacture. I was fine for a good while and then, BOOM, my skin got tight, flakey, but the worst are my lips, that are still recovering. The skin would peel off every day and eventually went down to the lower levels of skin. Talk about discomfort. I’ve stopped those powerful retinoids for a good month now, but I still have to constantly moisturize and top my lips with Vaseline and lipsticks always look textured on me. I’ve backed away until my skin improves notably and I’ve restarted with OTC retinols and so far so good. Thank you for asking -I don’t mean to ramble but it was a stupid thing I did and if I can encourage others not to take it too far in the race against age, I will. It’s not worth it.

Dr. Dray, you are THE BEST.
Thanks for the great information! A bad case of the flu has really irritated parts of my face so I need this. Would doing this be ok with a CPAP at night though?

I use a CPAP, I cleanse and do my creams earlier in the evening, so by the time I go to bed, it is absorbed. You may need to hand wash your headgear more often. I haven’t seen any down side to this to my skin or mask.
Love this! But would using Differin at night be okay after the moisturiser?
Encore une fois très intéressant 👌
How long do you recommend healing the skin barrier for before adding other products? Thank you and love your videos!
Happy New Year Dr Dray. Hope yours has started well 🤩

I keep coming back to Cetaphil face and body lotion, on my face, I’ve used many expensive moisturisers but none of them settle my red patchy skin like Cetaphil the difference is immediate I use it morning and night, I’m 76,retinol products are too harsh for me and all those expensive products do nothing for me. I’ll put la Roche-Posay 50+ invisible fluid over the top if I’m outside or Estée Lauder futurist foundation with spf 20 for outings it’s a beautiful product not too heavy. Neutrogena have 50 spf which is equal to la Roche and much cheaper in price😀🌺I think over the years when I’ve bought expensive moisturisers ect. It made me feel good but did little else?
less is more! at 40, i finally figured out my very skincare routine. thanks, Dr. Dray

Thanks for this resetting video! A few years ago, when I found youtube skincare influencers and content creators, I was hooked. Watched everything, consumed everything, just loved it- a whole new world opened for me with lots of information and tons of new shiny products that promised me perfect skin. I came for the skincare, stayed for the community... but seriously considering to leave because of this insane over consumption, hauls, empties, new stuff, coupon codes, purchase pressure. To me, youtube skincare community reduced itself to a TV Teleshop channel. No amount of new skincare seems to be enough- just buy more more more. However, Basic Skincare is the best for skin and has been for millions of years. Skin is just skin- if you feed it well and protect it from the sun, it will stay healthy and beautiful. If you overfeed it, it will just ruin it.

Dr Dray. LOVE YOU GIRL ❤️😊 PLEASE any help for a psoriasis on Scalp. It's at back of my head and I sleep on my back 😕 I get super hot in bed so this is not fun and disturbs my sleep x💙
Astral cream is my staple along with medik8 retinal product every 2nd night and my nuface mini. My skin has never looked so good.
