To rescue the machine in the best way, you need to dig a deep hole next to the machine so that the water can flow down there and then take all the sand out of the machine, you can pull the machine up more easily.

I'm amazed they did not drain the water out and then check all the fluids make sure there's no water in the oil or the engine air cleaner and start the darn thing up and then pull it out and then pack in the dirt behind it with a nice slope would have made the job a lot easier I'm amazing the chain or cable did not break and kill somebody.

As an ex-Caterpillar and Komatsu sales guy I cringed the whole way through this. Incredible how many bad practices and safety standards they broke. And clear to see the value of well-made gear - this stuff looks like made of TIN. but at 33:20 - gushing hydraulic oil from raising the blade by force - wow. and sitting watching - where you could be cut in half - - not-so-smart-fella's but I could not believe they all stood beside the 320 SHAKING the cable - with the CARBODY of the excavator. Like - Oh My God - and all the while - the dozer's tracks still locked. (I guess getting the engine restarted once dry - - was still impossible? Better to risk cutting a few guys in half? Entertaining...) And they never did get the tracks unlocked - they just moved the site - around the dozer and drug it out.

This was not as fun to watch as I expected. I agree with the things other commenters said. GREASE the excavator pivot pins! Put the tracks in neutral. Tie the blade up, it was acting as an anchor. The dozer guy finally got that right ideal. The dozer operator dug into the sand often, but did not get stuck. It makes you wonder what colossal negligence it took to get it stuck so bad in the first place. They never tried to start it after it was out of the muck, was the engine destroyed?; seems likely. ALOT of work and I wonder who paid? Any disaster is caused by a chain of bad decisions, break any link in the chain and the accident does not happen! I got fired because I lost a new shovel on a job laying underground cable. What will happen to this guy? OH, and I am still have memory issues.

That brings back memories, I built tailings ponds for 37 years, seen so many dozer’s stuck I can’t remember how many, we worked in sand and hot water slurry with a big spill hole as the tailings was pumped into what we called cells, things got bad when there was clay mixed in it. This rescue was nothing compared to having a dozer completely buried, and that rice patty dozer is the best for what you are doing, on the stuck dozer you should cut round holes in to the pads as that lets the tracks stay loose to turn and they also break the suction. All in god rescue besides the damage, no matter how stuck alway keep the front of the dozer up by putting the blade down.

This was fascinating as none of them had a clue what to do. They made no attempt to put the tracks in freewheel, so it was just a dead weight. They disconnected the blade hydraulics so it could not be used to lift the machine. They tried to drag it out using tracked machines instead of anchoring a machine and using the hydraulic arm to pull it out.

Also, The excavator operator could of used his bucket to use as a tool to pull them out. Hydraulics with an excavators are more driven (by power) to the arm and bucket-not the tracks. That`s common knowledge.

@@macinfloydvolk i have worked my life with handicapped and blind. My mentor was Alvin Pennington who was the safety officer for the Apollo program. He lost his sight while sitting at his desk. He never wallowed in self pity and spent his remaining years teaching the blind at a major university, how to cope. He was a great guy and with the help of his life long friend to guide him, he golfed to a 10 handicap. My dad and I played in his golf tournament every year. Reviewing my post, i said nothing derogatory about you not “seeing” the track. And before i read the post from the guy who did “see” it , I merely agreed with him. You read something into my note that simply was not there. Your snakky and sarcastic comment was not necessary and speaks volumes about your attitude and outlook on life. I offer this: You have life. If you lived in Indonesia you would undoubtedly have been killed but by the grace of God you are here. Make the most of every moment you have and seek out beauty through grace.

Well there is a 20 minute job turned into a real life threatening project. I think the time it would have taken to get the machine running would have been well worth the effort. Blade up first then get those tracks back on. 40 monkeys watching none with a shovel. Of course with the way the bucket screamed "GREASE ME " for 30 minutes it is no wonder a shovel is nowhere to be found.
