Skid Row SNAKE SABO - The BON JOVI connection.

Ойын-сауық

This is part of a series of interviews we did with members of SKID ROW. In this edition we interview guitarist Dave "Snake" Sabo. Snake is such a great guy! He reveals his early and very young friendship with Jon Bon Jovi and how they grew up together. Snake walks us through the various stages of Skid Row and how the band was originally formed, how they wrote the iconic songs off that first record, how they found Bach etc... This is a fun interview! Thank you Snake! Please hit that like and subscribe button.

    I met snake in the summer of 1990 down at ShopRite in aberdeen, New Jersey - not too far from where he grew up and where I grew up.. I was pulling in the shopping carts at the time and I think he was signing up for a ShopRite card lol. ...Nice guy. He told me they were recording a new album which turned out to be the slave to the grind record which debuted at number one on the pop charts. Good memories.

    Dear Snake, I've been a skid row fan since the debut album. Got married had kids. Got my son into guitar. I am a hobby intermediate rock drummer. I went to see Sebastian Bach's solo band. I just wanted to give you a quick picture. I have totally enjoyed everything you've had to say I've seen on KZread. I wish I heard it 20 years ago. Erik fucking rocks! He will not let you down. I think as a fan I've waited for too long to hear from the other members of skid row. You have a lot to share and give and every interview I've seen has been fantastic with you.

    Sebastian recently did an interview and spoke quite highly of Snake...I got the distinct impression he had a genuine love for Snake - no matter what has gone down. I saw genuine underlying sadness in his face/ voice when he said he missed his friendship with him. Sebastian had not one negative thing to say about Snake He didn't mention anything about the business part . I wish they could patch up whatever bit of resentments they have...regardless of all else.

    ironically first heard of skid row on the Bon Jovi VHS New Jersey the Videos. Jon was having a laugh with Snake backstage and Dave was wearing a Skid Row TShirt. Now this was 1989 before the internet so i had to research who Skid Row were. So went to HMV and asked them if they had anything by a band called Skd Row. The guy brought me the debut album saying it had been released a few months ago so i bought the vinyl took it home and the rest is history.

    Man you have brought back great teenage memories for me. I also had the VHS New Jersey Videos. As a teenager into great rock bands at the time there was something magical about getting those rock music videos of your favourite bands. Richie Sambora was doing great impressions of Elvis,Prince and Stallone at the start of the video to "Bad Medicine". I know sometimes it is easy to look back and romanticise your teenage years but going to the local record store at the time and buying those VHS Videos of your favourite rock bands was absolutely magical. Nothing can describe the feeling and it is only those who experienced it understand you. Honestly hand on heart I dont envy teenagers now with all the modern music equipment. I was also a fan of Skid Row. Remember Tico Torres taking the muck out of Dave "Snake" Sabo. I was also a huge fan of Cinderealla and both Jon and Richie appear in their video "Somebody Save Me"

    @@steel_horse7570 Thank you for your reply. It was a great video and it was obvious Jon and Dave were good friends and I remember Jon having this conversation with Dave who was playing his pink guitar. I am a huge Bon Jovi fan and the album "New Jersey" is still my favourite Bon Jovi album as it was so strong. For example "Wild is the Wind" and "Stick To Your Guns" were ballads just as strong as "I'll Be There For You" or "Living In Sin". Check out Bon Jovi,Skid Row, Motley Crue and Cinderella at the Moscow Peace Festival in 1989. There is clips on You Tube. Bon Jovi and Cinderella join together to do a cover of "Sweet Home Alabama ". It is an absolute shame what happened Jon's voice. By the way I still have that VHS video with Jon on the cover wearing the long leather coat with "New Jersey" on the back. In my humble opinion the late 1980's were fantastic for rock. When you think of the memories we had with such great music but unfortunately we have lost some of those guy's and girls that we shared those magical,fantastic most memorable memories with. • @skyepicus

    @skyepicus

    Жыл бұрын

    The shady deal was Jon's idea. Because him and Ritchie were business partners, half of the money went to Ritchie but Ritchie released his ownership within a couple of years since he never felt it was right. Basically and with Doc negotiating for Jon - The deal was, Jon agreed to get Skid Row signed to a label (with Doc's help as Skid Row's manager) and committed to bringing Skid Row out on a worldwide tour opening for Bon Jovi if Skid Row surrendered their portion of their own publishing for a period of five years. Essentially resulting in Skid Row's publishing company owning 1/3 of their songs, the record label owning 1/3 and Jon owning 1/3 which left the band being only able to make money from touring and merchandise.

    back when i was an impressionable teen in 1994-1998, sebastian could do no wrong in my book. the guy flew the flag for rock and i was always praying for a skid row reunion. i didn't hate the solinger albums, but i just held out hope as long as i could. i have seen bach play several times (most notably the two stints opening for gnr in the late 2000's) and thought he was alright. after hearing snake talk about how quickly reunion talks went downhill because of bach's behavior (without even being on the phone together), and seeing how childish a guy in his 50's still acts (dragging on skid row and erik), it has really diminished my opinion of bach. do i think skid row will ever reunite? maybe. i don't think it would do the business that it might have 10 years ago if they had. i don't think they would play any bigger places than they do now. i don't think a band like GNR would take them out, as they don't seem all that interested in taking bands of the genre out with them now. So i don't see much of a reason to go out and be unhappy. bach wants it...but lets be honest, i don't think the product would be as good as the product you get with erik in the band.

    If the band sucks without Sebastian (THEY DON’T if you’ve seen them), you’re all set. Sebastian has a cover band that mostly does all Skid Row songs and some of his unknown solo stuff. He tours the same club circuit every year playing the same stuff. You know, the good ones he had nothing to do with writing. Works out though, Skid Row fans can go see them live sounding better than they have in decades. Or…Sebastian fans can go see Sebastian play the same songs…just not as well. He’s playing songs w two guitar parts w one guitarist. Completely drops out on every solo and sounds half as full with no rhythm…the way they’re written and recorded (by the guys you think suck). Sebastian is one of the greats, but so are these guys! None of them suck!!

    He was in The band until 1997. Name a single band from this genre with a hit after that. Not many of any. Also, why would you even want to see him with a band that sucks? Also, same question…name a single Sebastian solo hit single EVER! I agree with one thing, they definitely were the best with Sebastian. But that was also 30+ years ago. Even with him they didn’t have any hits on their last album together, “Subhuman Race” in 1995. The music industry had changed by then and shut these bands out. Unfair to call out any of them for not having hits. None of these bands did.

    You are right about those bands but are we talking about the same thing? AC/DC started in 1973. Iron Maiden in 1975. Metallica broke multi-platinum with the Black album in 1991. That leaves Bon Jovi as the only real “80s” band. Them, as well as the rest you named, are what I would call too big to fail. Bon Jovi has sold over 130 million albums. They could loose 90% of that and have 13 million sold. Skid Row have sold a total of 8 million combined, a little more than half of Bon Jovi’s 10%. I think comparing apples and oranges doesn’t really argue your point. How about this…name a band that came out and broke in the 80s like Skid Row did (80s metal…Apple to apples) that sold a total of less than 10 million (their same level). There may be but I can’t think of one. If we were to name all the 70s metal bands and 90s metal bands with more recent hits, the list is a lot longer than AC/DC, Metallica, and Maiden. Again, those bands are so massive they could loose 90% of their audience and still sell out arenas. Skid Row was not nearly that big.
