Ski resort delivery gets messy!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A local equipment company needed some help getting one of their rental machines to a mountain top ski resort, so we pulled the @zackliftinternational4841 off of the Western Star and hooked it up to the @trail-ezetrailers5661 lowboy instead. We got the machine loaded up, then headed up the mountain in some really bad road conditions, but luckily the @onspotnorthamerica22 auto chains made getting up and down the mountain no problem!

Is there a reason so many American low-loaders use a drop neck instead of rear ramps? Almost all low loaders in Australia load over the rear (I think I've only seen one drop neck here, ever) so you don't need to detach the prime mover. It makes for faster, easier loading.

Also after seeing so many videos with the Zacklift on the western star the truck looks a bit odd when you detach the wrecker body. 99% of the time i see a bobtail rig its a standard freightliner or day cab that pulls a 53ft box style trailer or flatbed, but seeing yours with nothing attached is odd to me at first buy then i remember you bought that truck with the wrecker body in mind and it all makes sense

Simple stuff for you seems complicated to those of us who haven't done it. Pulling off the ZakLift and getting the trailer adjusted and hooked up properly certainly is important. Making sure big equipment is secured properly for safety reasons for you and those on the road. Glad you do it right and are safe out there.

I had a land yacht just beside himself on a mountain road going from Southern to Northern California. So I'm driving an Army 7-ton fuel tanker, and if you've ever seen military vehicles, they have massive bumpers on the front, and most of them have proportionally massive winches. At least this one did. So he finally spies an opening, shoves 500 cid, 400 hp into a lower gear, zooms around and jumps in front of me, only to have to slam on the brakes to keep from rear-ending the slower produce truck in front of me. That big an engine and drum brakes on a winding mountain road - perfect. Those things were used at Indy as pace cars, but they didn't have to do that kind of braking. He fish-tailed for a good several hundred feet before he got it under control. I'll give him credit for that, but there he was, inches from that monster in front of him, and inches from my bumper that probably weighed as much as his Eldo in back of him. I hoped he crapped himself and had to stew in it for the next hour.

There're times I think a ride along in a big truck would be a useful educational experience as part of drivers ed. I spent the summer after graduating highschool loading moving trucks. They felt even more ponderous from the passenger seat than they looked driving past them in my car. It also made clear how massive the blind spots were.

I have a real problem with Tailgaters. I used to play a game on the interstate called "how slow will they go?" I just slowly let up on the gas without braking. My lowest score was 35...in a 65. I didn't feel safe at that point and put on my flashers at which point they wized up and passed me. There was no one in the other lane the entire time.

Doesn’t mean you should push them in the ditch like Casey said. People are always gonna pass the big truck. There’s a difference between cutting someone off and break checking and someone who’s driving faster than the truck and is just passing to get in front. By the time they pass they should be well ahead and if you’re so worried about your stopping zone, just back off a bit then. Takes patience to drive truck. Saying things like “I’ll just put him in the ditch if he’s going to pass me” is just immature, people like that don’t need to be driving a big truck let alone any vehicle

My brother has a term he uses for Subaru drivers here - and sadly, about 99 percent of them earn that name! I'm super cautious about the space in front of large rigs because I know how much I need the space in front of my RV when I'm out and about, and too many people just don't get it. I think some of them are the same ones that will dart across train tracks right in front of the train, then wonder why the engineer gets pissed like they do. I made a little drive thru under wash station at my house next to my shop that I drive over. I dug a trench about 2' wide and 18" deep and 10' long and I filled it with concrete with a steel 8" wide channel drain set in the concrete and I put down gravel on either side of it. I took a piece of pipe and drilled a bunch of holes and used a couple U bolts to attach the pipe to the underside of the drain grate. I already had a home made 10hp electric pressure washer inside my shop so I connected it to the spray bar and found a cheap homelink remote receiver from ebay and wired it into the pressure washer to turn it on. When I get home I hit my homelink button or the extra button on my gate opener remote and I drive over my under side wash station.

I love how everybody's been using the sprinkler tractor to wash the underside of so many vehicles I don't think I can believe a tenth of them that's a awesome idea and I can admit I never thought of doing such thing

That you have the Zacklift and a lowboy helps .. As for the undercarriage washer ... pour some dial soap in the hose ... first you get it dial clean and then rinsed !!

Dial is dish soap right? Dish soap here has too much salt to use on vehicles, just get a cheap wash and rinse

@@1988dgs never heard that before. But theoretically you could put any sort of cleaning additive. It's just a container that screws in between two hoses

@@1988dgs Can you recommend another soap .. and my idea was for one to run a second pass when the soap has cleared out to wash off the soap ..

My brother used to race on an oval speedway that was made crushed decomposed granite . The only easy way to clean underneath the car was to use a tractor sprinkler.

Here in Minnesota I was always told to take any truck, salt truck, dump truck out and drive as long as you can through the heaviest rain after the winter to help because just washing isn't enough. I like the tractor sprinkler though! Driving probably gets more flex and vibration through the truck.
