I gotta say, when I went to cooper for my first time snowboarding, I found the employees to be a pretty helpful part of my experience. The bunny slope folks were really patient and kind, and when I graduated, there was one that was encouraging me to try new things, and to be brave.

As a cooper employee, I can say that this review is pretty damn on the nose. It's most definitely a beginner mountain that has some stuff for the experienced riders as well. Best place to eat in Leadville is hands down High Mountain Pies. Best pizza for 50 miles, hand made toppings and dough, ribs, wings, and some great subs too. Check out the Google maps results, the website isn't ours... funny story.

@@Cut.2TheChase BnB's are sometimes available in Leadville, depends on the usual season stuff. Buena Vista probably has more but is also probably pretty pricey. Everything east of Leadville I'm not super familiar with. Google'd probably be better than me for that.

I went today with my adult daughter and had one of the best days in recent memory. I'm almost 52 and have been snowboarding since 1986. I have been thinking about hanging it up because my legs are so gassed after just a couple runs. The mellow terrain at Cooper is right up my alley. I probably made a dozen laps and would have kept going, but I tweaked my knee and had to quit. I normally get gassed way before that. Here's what I loved about Cooper today: 1) No I-70 traffic. My daughter is doing an internship in Buena Vista, so I took 285 to BV, picked her up and headed North on 24. I left Denver at 5:15, probably took 20 minutes to pick her up and arrived at Cooper at 8:15. So roughly 2 hours, 40 minutes driving. Most importantly, I had literally zero traffic going up and very little coming back. 2) Parking. They have a "port of entry" kind of like a theme park. You need a lift pass to get in, but once you're in, you're in. No scanning at the lifts. Port of entry opens at 8am. Lifts start at 9. We arrived at 8:15 and I was about the 3rd vehicle from the port of entry. We got our passes, grabbed some breakfast and coffee, then ended up 5th in line when the lift opened. 3) Price. I ordered online with 48 hours notice and the price was $65 each ($90 for same day). 4) Crowd. What crowd? The longest lift line we stood in, there were 5 people in front of us. Took about 3 minutes. There were runs were my daughter and I were the only 2 in sight. 5) Snow. They got a foot of snow in the last week and 2 inches the day before we went. We were on buttery groomers or 4" of powder all day. Didn't even have to go in the trees. Point is, because the crowds were so sparce, the snow held up all day. I think I'm going to get a season pass next year for $299. I get that Cooper is not for everyone. Did't try Tennessee Creek Basin because I really didn't want to ride a T bar and I am getting too old for black runs. Also, all of the employees were super friendly . . . if that matters to you.

This is the first place I ever snowboarded, great place to learn tree runs. I wouldnt travel to go here but its great for a warmup day before hitting a bigger resort. Apparently there were plans for a high speed lift but the people of leadville voted against it because they thought it would ruin the small local feel and bring in too many tourists.

I am always genuinely shocked how high the tree line is in Colorado, I guess Latitude has a pretty big role to play. I've snowboarded at Marmot Basin a few times, and the peak is 1,500 feet lower than this hill, and yet half of the hill is above the trees.

Snow cat skiing is only 60$ for 2 runs this season instead of 500$ for a “full day” where you might only get 4 or 5 runs in, well worth the price to go backcountry skiing with a cat tour on Cooper’s Chicago Ridge!

Ok but how is unloading for the lifts? Do they shoot you off like Loveland or do they practically stop like copper. Assuming they aren’t detachable lifts since it’s a mom n pop place but maybe they go slow. I just need a second to place my foot 🤣

I love ski Cooper. The base lift is definitely in need of replacement. Last time we were there we dropped into Piney Creek Basin didn’t see anyone else on the trail and for a second I thought I had accidentally skied into a closed area! Great wide open runs and minimal crowds. Like skiing out of Mid-Vail without anyone else there. Roughly the same vertical and skiable terrain. Vail snow for a third of the price!
