Kaprun - Kitzsteinhorn and Saalbach - Hinterglemm are 2 Austrian ski areas famous all over the world. Ski conditions are one of the best in winter. Skiing in Kitzsteinhorn Glacier provides natural snow from October to May while all the other areas, like Saalbach - Hiterglemm or Zell am See have well prepared artificial snow all winter.
This December we went to Kaprun for a ski holiday. Kitzsteinhorn skiin was the highlight of the trip for sure but skiing in Saalbach - Hinterglemm was also highly appreciated by us.
Kaprun has 2 main areas for skiing: Kitzsteinhorn and Maiskogel. Both of them can be reached easily by cable cars (Maiskogelbahn, 3K K-Onnection, Panoramabahn and Gletcherjet). Kitzsteinhorn skiing is at higher altitude, on the Glacier. Maiskogel skiing is more for families with it's gentle slopes
With the same ski pass you can also ski in Zell am See (Schmitten) but also in the famous Skicircus (Saalbach - Hinterglemm - Leogang - Fieberbrunn).
Skiing in the Austrian Alps is one of the best experiences if you are a amateur skier or a more advanced one. Skiing in Kaprun and Kitzsteinhorn is one of the best places you can chose in Austria.
In this video I will show you some of the slopes in Kitzsteinhorn, Maiskogel, Saalbach & Hinterglemm. We didn't skied this time in Zell am See but went there some 6 years ago and enjoyed also a lot.
In Kitzsteinhorn you can try the steepest slope : The Black Mamba.
In Saalbach you can take on The Challenge of using all of the cable cars in one day.
Skiing holidays in Kaprun are not complete without going to Apres Skis or tasting the local food and great beer. There are plenty of mountain huts with cosy atmosphere.
Also, I highly recommend to visit the beautiful towns of Kaprun, Zell am See, Saalbach, Hinterglemm and Rauris.
So, if you are looking for a ski holiday or a ski vacation, give it a try. Skiing in Kaprun & Kitzsteinhorn will make you fell in love with this region.
