What a wonderful reference video, thank you so much for showing us the steps!
Oh my. Look at this hand! This is the point, where the magic of looking, talent and spirit cumulate to exactly this kind of artwork I wanted to draw as an 20years old in my dreams... now, with 64, I sit here and smile. How can stone, architecture, buildings, holes and water be so friendly, crooked and full of love? Ian shows it. Overwhelming...
Love how you express yourself in your art and how your inner person obviously shows on the paper. Very cartoon like, very animated and eccentric.
I know this is 3 years old but I’ve just recently “discovered” Ian’s art and i think I’ve watched this and his other demos dozens of times! Cheers!

Nice!!
Love the looseness of your line, the quirkiness of the perspective and the layers of texture.
Love Ian's paintings and his process! Thank you!
Your approach to sketching as well as your overall perception of the scene at hand is absolutely remarkable. You have found a way to omit detail and leave it to the viewer's imagination through the creative use of provocative color and shading. The urban Sketchers that you create a by 5 my favorites please don't stop doing what you do

Thanks for your fantastic feedback!!
This amazing tutorial took me straight back to my visit to the Rialto Bridge in Venice. I was captured by the randomness of Ian's pen and brush strokes yet each action was deliberate. In my mind I was standing there soaking in the moment. Thank you Ian for sharing your talent and encouraging us to "wake up" our own skills.
I know it’s been 2 years, but I am constantly impressed by your detailed explanation of the process. Sooooo. Useful and impressive. Thanks Ian 😍❤️😍

Oh, wow! Your style reminds me one famous Czech artist Zdeněk Smetana. He draw evening short cartoons for kids. They are popular almost 40 years here. Your style is funny, fresh and playful. Amazing! I am so glad I've found your channel.

Oh cool! Happy to have you here!
It is interesting to see your technique but also how high you grip the pen. Thank you for sharing xx
Thanks. Your style is new to me and I have enjoyed and learned a lot. I tend to be very realistic and precise and it irritates me to the point where a drawing/painting becomes a chore instead of an enjoyable journey. Your style gives a lot of freedom in detailed expression. And dare I say perhaps a touch of the whymsical...? Thanks again for sharing!
Fantastic Ian, thank you for sharing this amazing drawing.

Great sketch Ian! I would love to go to Venice.. Eileen
Fabtastic!
I love that your work is an approximation of what you see; you have your own unique expressive style. You use line & colour to invent rather than slavishly copy. Paul Hogarth was an artist who did similar.

Hi, we asked Ian - he said that there are just warm and cool tone brush pens used here :-)
I understand why the buildings on the outside can't be red but man... it makes me so sad
