Artist Andrei Molodkin served in the Soviet military. In YOUNG BLOOD he provides empty vessels with statements from censored music. The sculptures are connected by medical equipment, pumps, fridges and compressors and activated by human blood.
The statements used are from THE MEDIA, a new music track by London Drill musicians Skengdo & AM and Drillminister. The Drill scene has become under attack by the Government and Metropolitan Police for allegedly driving London’s rise in knife crime resulting in a crackdown on social media with music videos being deleted. Skengdo & AM recently made legal history as the first musicians to receive a suspended sentence in the UK for performing a track live. Fighting against censorship and entrenched racial discrimination, the musicians give their blood to their own lyrics, prioritising freedom of expression above political pressure.
