This is Luge if I am not mistaken. Skeleton is head first.

This is luge and most of them are in Altenberg. And also in 2 of these kreisl was not the problem but late entrance/exit of the next turn or ones before.

Right, so the first clip is from Konigsee, from s3 to s4 (Not kriesel). The rest of the clips are from Altenberg (it says it on the bib) and none of them crashed in kriesel. and none of them are skeleton sleds, they're all Luge sliders. Was there any fact checking done here at all?

Looks like a fun track! The way they whip out of that troublesome corner looks absolutely terrifying. These athletes are much braver than me.

This is a a LOT of sliders favorite track

I think this is a luge event, not a skeleton event (where participants go head first down the track).

Everybody crashed before the maintenance crewman had a chance to leave his broom on the track.

How’s this even legal? So you telling me I can’t ride my motorcycle without helmet. But you can bobsleigh 70 mph on naked suits.

There is a big difference between motorcycle and Luge/ skeleton/ bobsled. If you crash, the way to the ground is not that big, so the impact to the body is not a big deal. Also there are no things to hit in a bobsled track. (Normally) If you crash with your motorcycle, you can slide into trees, cars... and many more. That all looks crazy at it actually is. But the first crash in this video was a close call. Cheers, a bobsled pilot and a motorcycle fan. 😜

That first crash, egads. Not only hitting his shin but his head got a pretty good wallop. Perhaps they should have a chin guard like on most motorcycle helmets.

Poles, fences, exposed track structures…. So many hazards that can fatally wound the athletes if they go off the track. You don’t see light poles around F1 or motoGP circuits..

I'm not 100% sure but at the Olympics, they get about 6 runs before the competition. The athletes that live in the country where the track is get to practice on the track as much as they like though.

I’ve never understood the sport

This is why if I had to do either I’d choose skeleton, rather be knocked out going head first and be oblivious to what happened than conscious and watch my legs get mangled first🙅‍♀️

It's just a hard piece of track to get right, people were just making mistakes

In another video, the guy kept saying it's not the course, it's the competitor who's not good enough to sled. So that got me thinking This is the Olympics But maybe they just aren't good enough Then someone said some of these people enter the Olympics after few months of training and aren't good enough Which means the talent pool is so small Many commenters grew up in snowy places but never did this Definitely not me, I'm in malaysia So i do think we can plausibly say that we're seeing unskilled competitors at an Olympic event just because it's so obscure that no one really tries

believe it or not, while injuries do occur, Major injuries are rare in both events are rare. Have people died, yes, but it's very very very rare.

Which takes less skill, the luge or the skeleton?...I'd say the skeleton.

actually both take incredible skill to pilot, It's far more then holding on. It's rotating your weight, in both sports you guide the sled with your legs/feet. Both sports are extremely difficult to learn. Not to mention, they are going in some cases as fast or faster than your car going down the street. Let's also not forget, this is ice. it's like slippery concrete.

Watch the skeleton carefully you'll see they are just lying still. there's no way at those speeds sliding down a half tube that moving your feet will have an affect but don't take my word for it, I watched a woman from the skeleton talking on a UK TV show and she'd only been doing it for a few months prior to the Olympics and she got very little chance to train but was still competing at the Olympics!....so if that's not proof I don't know what is!
