Things that happened since Faker last won a world championship : - 2016 : SKT wins 3-2 by stopping a reverse sweep attempt. - 2017 : Amibition, midlaner turned jungler, clean sweeps the SKT dynasty, taking revenge for their narrow loss in 2016. This win would cement Ambition, Ruler and Corejj as LCK legends. - 2018 : IG brings the LPL their first championship, with Rookie beating the his former team on the way (KT, with Deft). This was EU's 2nd ever finals appearance. This specific event would see the rise of prodigies like Theshy, Jackeylove, Caps and Perkz. The LPL would claim all international trophies this year. Notable matchup : IG vs KT quarterifinals - 2019 : FPX, another LPL team, sweeps G2 and completely stops their golden year (winning all calendar trophies). Spearheaded by the eccentric Doinb who fell in love with China and hopped mediocre team after mediocre team, this would be the LPL's second championship. This year was the rise of prodigies like Chovy, Showmaker, Canyon, Nuguri, Viper and Lehends. Notable matchups : IG vs FPX semifinals and G2 vs SKT semifinals. - 2020 : The return of the LCK. After falling short in 2019 and again in 2020 MSC (mid-season cup), Damwon came back a whole new beast and simply put, demolished the scene. Despite a valiant effort by Suning who were 3rd seed, the matchup was simply too lopsided. This would also be G2s (and EU)'s last ever hurrah before falling back to irrelevance. This season saw the rise of new impressive talent like Kanavi, Yagao, Zoom, 369, Knight, Keria, Angel and Sofm. Notable matchups : Damwon vs G2 semifinals and Suning vs JDG quarterfinals. - 2021 : Looking to further cement themselves as a true dynasty comparable to T1 (SKT), Damwon would fall short by two games to complete their golden road, failing to beat RNG in the MSI finals, and failing to beat EDG in the world finals. Scout and Viper would finally be crowned kings of the world, the latter after many hardships after leaving Griffin (with notable teammates like Lehends, Chovy and Tarzan). This event also saw the return of Faker alongside four new rookies, and despite a rocky season, they would almost make the finals. An LPL team had beaten the LCK team in the world finals for the first time in history ! New stars : GALA, Wei, Oner, Gumayusi. Notable matchups : Damwon vs SKT semifinals and EDG vs RNG quarter ifinals - 2022 : Back with rejuvenated vigor, SKT would add the raw gem in the toplane known as Zeus. They would dominate the spring season against the star studded Gen.G who was, for all intents and purposes, looking to be the "team of destiny". Facing hurdles, Faker would fall against the kings of Spring, RNG. On the other side, DRX, lead by Deft and former world champion Beryl, would struggle and never be taken into consideration, as the spotlight was on Faker and Chovy. Following the successful 2021 season for the LPL, it would only be logical to consider JDG the eventual world champion, but they would fall short to SKT, who themselves got swept by Gen.G in summer. But in the shadows, through the qualifiers, through the MSI champions, through groups, through the defending world champions, through the LCK champions, a dragon roared over the world. This would be Deft's triumph, over long-time rival Faker, the unkillable demon king. Following Kingen's Aatrox, DRX would bring home the world championship, capping one if not the best underdog story in League of Legends history. Beryl, quietly reaching the finals three years in a row and winning two of them, would return to his gacha entertainment. New stars : Kingen, Zeka, Zeus, Breathe. What an amazing 6 years it was for esports history. See you next year !

I can add 2023, in which perhaps the most dominant super team from the LPL, JDG, would almost achieve the golden road, after not loosing a single best of five all year, only to lose to a t1 that came back from a bad period with faker injured, to put back the emperor on his throne, 7 years since his last world championship. 2024 is not over, but saw t1 almost take another lck if not for falling short 1 game versus chovy's geng, geng which would finally win msi and grant chovy his first international title.

This is what PEAK performance looks like. You may not like it, but unfortunately this series set the bar waaay to high for any coming worlds.

Now we have a new Bengi, Wolf and Bang *Oner rotates and plays with Faker so well like Bengi Gumayusi and Keria perfectly plays like Wolf and Bang in Bot lane, sure they didn't win MSI this year but if they manage to play like they did in Spring, they surely can win Worlds

And then they didn't even make it to the Worlds, and then they lost in semi-finals 3-1. Meh, the SKT has died imo. Faker is still amazing, but other players aren't that good to win Worlds. And after Worlds 2019 Khan went to FPX. If FPX structure doesn't change they'll 90% win Worlds 2020 because they're a really strong team.

Samuel Hong FPX aren’t trash at all. You are quiet delusional to say such a thing. They won worlds and were the best team. They are still far superior of what skt is rn. There are new champs being born in the LPL and the LPL has the most stacked league of them all. It’s either DWG (only hope for the lck) or Someone like TES winning worlds.

They're not really known to take defeat gracefully. I hope LPL teams don't reach the Finals again this year, as it is gonna be held in Korea.

im sad they don't really give bengi the credit he deserves. that man carried faker in clutch games and is a big reason faker has 3 worlds titles, without bengi faker hasn't won worlds. 2017 when they got swept reassured my inability to trust blank as someone who fill bengi's shoes

Worlds 2016 was by far the most competitive and most spectacular Worlds I've seen so far! These finals were just simply amazing, but even better was the semi-finals when SKT and ROX, the two single-best teams in the world faced off and played the best BO5 series, League of Legends has ever seen! I still love everything about Worlds 2016 until this day! It was so unbelieveably amazing to witness these two Series live! I hope there will be anything like this ever again, but I suppose with the current meta, games like these aren't realistic at all! The game became far too straight-forward! I loved Pro League of Legends, when it was Tank-meta because the games were so much more controlled and based on vision control and makro-play... Nowadays it's only about constant fighting all over the map!
