After years of playing around with and testing various HD FPV video systems... cheaper than the DJI one, and getting pretty much disappointing results, at least as far as use on planes goes, I may have finally found the one that could get me with a reliable HD link into those clouds I like to chase so much! Initial test was very good and definitely hints at the potential of the system! I am excited!!

    Glad to see products like this starting to hit the market. I got excited about the OpenHD stuff earlier this year but just couldn't bring myself to put it into the 'project queue'. Probably will pick this up in the spring as it seems to check all the right boxes.

    Very fascinating. Right off, seeing real OSD elements is huge plus over DJI system. At 6:00, the low speeds numbers appear as-if they are "m/s" values, while units displayed are "km/h" (perhaps an overlooked conversion in software ... as think m/s is default working units for gps) Looking at the linked-posting it mentions "repeater" option. That sounds intriguing, in terms of range extension possibilities. 30 km regardless for HD video would be a real enabler! 🤩 Personally, I'd find it useful if an OSD element display system frame-rate, or a latency indicator. It might serve as a status indicator prior to the display freezing up. Overall, looks to be amazing. Most issues seem minor and are more software related than hardware (ie: can be address with upgrades)

  • @ArxangelRC

    @ArxangelRC

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes, the OSD is nice! The speed numbers were just a bug, it has been fixed in the new version of the app! Have not looked into that Repeater thing, no idea what it does! Actually that OSD data is available, just needs to be enabled separately from the Mavlink OSD. Yes, most issues can be software fixed, size of the system though... will need more hardware development.

    Great video, and informative as always. Hope your budget allows purchase of the DJI system (including the V2 goggles) so that you may be able to do some more comparisons in the future. These claim to have an upper bound latency of 150ms, whilst DJI claims (and has been independently verified) sub-30ms. Of course, DJI, especially when running at 5.8GHz instead of 2.4, is not going to get anywhere near the range you would want.

    @@ArxangelRC In my opinion this already beats DJI system. Just having a proper OSD is huge for us fixedwing pilots. DJI lacks osd data big time and I'm not seeing them fixing this anytime soon like they promised. I'll definitely be buying this setup and will most likely sell one of my DJI DJI goggle sets to purchase the SIYI. The latency with this system isnt that bad either for fixedwing piloting anyway. Only real good thing DJI has going for it is its low latency at 50mbps which doesn't really help us serious Long range pilots

    150ms delay, thats really much. it's fine on a floater, but on anything fast, that's a preprogrammed crash. In 150ms you can press a button 3 times. Or in a better explanation: If your plane lands at 40 km/h (31mph), in 150ms you plane is 1,7m (7ft) further, than the video makes you believe. And that's just if you believe those 150ms were an honest value for the absolute latency. DJI has 28ms at 120 fps. Even though I am not a DJI fanboy, there is no way I'd throw 400 bucks at a high latency video feed. I primarily fly floaters, and still would never accept a latency like that, because it feels pretty weird and endagers your plane since you can't react on time, when it's needed.

    The HM30 can feed mavlink to the tracker so you do not need the MFD OSDs in this case, plus, the SIYI is an HD system, so there is no way to make it work with OSDs designed for analogue signal.

    Also side note, DJI v1 goggles used + a camera & air unit could be had for ~$600 if you really look for a deal so with the price of this I don't really see how it makes fiscal sense. DJI goggles are the best goggle available even for analog. The field of view is so much better than fat sharks or orqas or whatever goggle. Plus 120fps is amazing. & Don't forget, DJI is just a (very loaded) Chinese company too This system is heavy, has a whole lotta impractical shit, like I'm not a huge DJI fan boi but they really do make some great products that have unmatched performance

  • @ArxangelRC

    @ArxangelRC

    2 жыл бұрын

    True, and if you compare DJI's research and development costs to that of any other company in the hobby, you'd also see that they out-spend them 100 to 1!!!! Also, the control link is not what is the important bit here, everyone is free to use what they see fit, I do enjoy the DragonLink at this time, and it does work quite well! As for DJI vs this, well this can go further, and to be honest I don't think I've ever seen so much detail at 18kms from an analogue system and for one important reason - whatever stuff is in the air where we fly, the analogue system picks it up pretty well and you end up seeing it on the screen in terms of snow and overall image degradation! Since the digital is a two way street, you don't get to see anything that wasn't a valid data packet exchanged between the two units, so basically it filters out a lot more of the interference than an analogue system! And like I said in the video... the distance it can reach is important to me, and from what I've heard from DJI users since the first video, even 10kms is dodgy most of the time and requires very good antennas and pointed properly, and if it loses the link, it usually can't get it back until the model is back on top of you!

    Official specs say 150ms... I can't really measure that, but for my type of flying I don't really feel it and it makes little difference! Probably not the best option for a race quad or for very close proximity and high speed flying!

    I thought about it, but its not that! Would need to have AT LEAST a 1 in front of all these values to even approximate the speed in m/s.

    Well not specifically! But in general you can't just tack on to an HD system to look at the video like you can to an analogue one... so it does have some form of it, I think, by default! But don't quote me on that.

    You running this system? Just curious. I'm about to buy it myself. I'm fed up with DJI system and its lacking OSD. Plus range with DJI is not near as good. My record with DJI was 11kms and it was sketchy with some full black screens at its furthest range which can be disastrous. Yes DJI has lower latency but honestly when flying fixedwing this isnt a huge problem. Even at 130mbps we can still fly safely

    Since this system's ground module does not have an HDMI output on it, they sell a converter for the output it does have -> to HDMI, so you can then plug it into goggles or a monitor! Personally I find the wireless smartphone/tablet connectivity much more flexible and convenient. Plus, you can always put that smartphone in a goggle adapter and voila!

    @@ArxangelRC I'm interested in using goggles with this system as well. You say you could use a "goggle adapter" but how does that work? I have a Parrot Disco and it comes with goggles that I can put my smartphone in. But for that to work you have to go into goggle mode so the software splits the view in two (for left eye and right eye) to use with the goggles. Is there software to make the HM30's video split in two so it can be used in regular smartphone goggles or am I missing the picture? Also, do more expensive goggles with a built in screen and HDMI input work with the HM30's HDMI converter since the image isn't split in two? Or doesn't it have to be split in two for these kind of goggles? Sorry for these vague questions but I would really like to use this system FPV mode with goggles ;-)

  • @ArxangelRC

    @ArxangelRC

    @@KingHaggis I am not aware of a function of the smartphone app which splits the screen in two for use in that kind of goggles, but if you have self contained goggles with an HDMI input port you can connect those to the SIYI HDMI converter from the ground unit, and you'd be able to see the video in the goggles or on a monitor. Doesn't need to split anything in two if it has that functionality already built in!

    @@ArxangelRC thanks for the info. I'm following some threads on the Siyi HM30 system. There's much technical babble there and much troubleshooting but very little actual flying and rangetest posts. So far I'm not sure what to do. I think I'll wait a while until I see more successtories like yours on KZread. But I'm definitely very tempted in buying this product. I have an old Finwing Penguin analog build which I've never flown. I think I will pick up FPV flying again when I've done enough homework. Right now I'm a bit confused about the radiolink. If I use a compatible remote controller with the Siyi groundstation, I understand you can either hook it up directly via a cable or you can use a wireless tx as a bridge between the radio controller and the groundunit. Does this also mean that it doesn't matter if you use a longrange system or not? I understand that the HM30 system manages the radiolink together with the videolink and so long as you have video, you also have radiocontrol? So all I should do is get a good remote controller and plug it in directly with the groundcontroller and in theory, I should get good radio signal? Or do I still have to use a long range uhf system to match the videorange? Thanks!
