    Not an ER tip, but a hospital tip. If you have pets and live alone, please have a plan for who can take care of Fido or Fluffy in case of an emergency! And that plan involves keys into your home. You do NOT want to be unexpectedly hospitalised, trying to figure out who can take care of your pet, let alone stressing about locksmiths, animal control, or worst of all, the suffering of your pet who has gone days without food or water because nobody knew they were alone. If you have friends, designate an emergency contact who can take care of them and get it noted down that they need to be contacted ASAP! Get one of those silly stickers pet charities sometimes issue. Don’t have someone who can step in? Try asking your veterinarian or local animal welfare group about local resources BEFORE the unexpected happens. I’ve started volunteering at a hospital and it’s a sad situation to witness, would be even worse to suffer, and the stress of it can’t be healthy for the patient.

    THANK YOU! Your post just lead to our conversation about preparedness - we don't have to worry about our pets if we die before them: we planned a donation to the Humane Society in our area and in exchange, they commit to either foster the animals for life or place the animals, relative to the amount you leave them once you die. We don't worry about what will happen to our animals if we go first and our money because the donation is with money since we're dead.

Also, if you DO mess up and do something stupid, go ahead and TELL whichever member of that Trio of Trust is best qualified to help you avoid the consequences of your stupidity. Think about it - that's what all three of them do. They keep you from suffering the predictable effects of stupid decisions, be they health problems, jail time, or spiritual damnation. Coincidentally, all three are legally bound to STFU about what you tell them, with few exceptions. So don't lie, please! Back in 5th grade (1959 or '60, not sure which) our teacher (Dominican nun!) told our all-girl class that "Ladies should never smoke. In fact, the only people who should smoke are coal miners. Exhaling the cigarette smoke helps to release the coal dust they breathe in while working in the mines." My dad was a paramedic before he became a nurse. They were big on seatbelt use before they enacted laws. We were never allowed to have a trampoline, and I might’ve been on someone else’s once or twice. This was before they had nets to put around them. Oh, and bicycle helmets. You NEVER got on your bike without a helmet. It’s been ingrained in me so much that I shake my head at adults who think they don’t need helmets. Of course, my dad was a huge cyclist back in the day and got clipped by a car once. He just got scrapes and bruises, but it would’ve been worse without a helmet. Everyone should wear a helmet. Bikes might go slower than motorcycles, but falls happen due to inattentive motorists or equipment failures. You don’t want a concussion or worse. Or to get your face scraped up.

    My recommendation for quitting smoking is not to turn to vaping. Instead: a fake cigarette to help wean your hands and mouth from the tactile habit , if needed, and a nicotine patch or chewing gum to help wean your body from the nicotine addiction. A vape pen does not resemble a cigarette; the only similarity is that you plug it into your mouth and inhale. I saw my MIL drop nicotine cold turkey, but it was her sister's losing part of a foot due to diabetes complications, exacerbated by effects from smoking, that impelled her.. Not everyone has such a powerful motivation, nor would she or I wish it upon them. Even my highly motivated MIL was not able to embark on quitting until she had a pacifier for her hands and mouth, however; she saw fake cigarettes in her local pharmacy and bought a packet of them. I think they were intended to allow kids and adults to "look cool". Vaping is neither a replacement or substitute for smoking; it's merely another harmful activity that has similarities: feels good but is harmful to your health; looks "cool" (substitute your own generational adjective); is readily habit-forming; can be addictive, depending on what's in your juice; rather expensive for little gain; trendy, but not really fashionable; affords great profit to the manufacturers, doctors, sellers, and undertakers, but not to you, your family, or your wise friends.

I guess my kids can throw the left overs in with me when I am cremated. Over 55 years of smoking and still going. On top of all my asbestos exposure starting at twelve as a carpenter with asbestos siding work. At least that was stopped after about eight years. Statistically I died decades ago. One of these days my medical chart will show COPD but that day is not here yet. I do tend to laugh at my sister when she lectures me about smoking while having her vape pen in her mouth. A lady I used to care for had stage 3 COPD along with a slew of medical issues. She smoked for 40 years with cigarettes 🚬. She finally quit but switch to vaping. Her pulmonologist was thrilled she quit the ciggies 🚭 and encouraged her to vape instead. 🤦🏻‍♀️ She's now addicted to vaping so bad that she goes through several pods of nicotine a day. And the pulmonologist still think that's better than cigarettes 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️. Dear God.

  • @MaYkO-WWH

    @MaYkO-WWH

    She was addicted to the nicotine before vaping. If she's going through that many pods you may want to increase the nicotine in the individual pods so she doesn't need as much. If you don't smoke don't vape, ever. But if you do smoke you should switch at a minimum if you cannot quit. No matter how much people want them to be, vapes are not cigs. We need to treat them accordingly so the technology can continue to improve so it can become safer.

    4:00 "best case scenario you break a couple of bones" how is that "best case"? best case would be: you were wearing proper protective clothing, and it did it's job well enough for you to walk away unharmed or only slightly hurt. a.k.a. "no need for the ER" I once got t-boned on my enduro... I was riding along at 50-60km/h (31-37mph), and the kid hitting me with his car was pulling out of a sidestreet (so he couldn't have been "fast"). That shit send me flying in a front flip. And after about 4 or 5 meters flight i landed on my shoulder with enough speed to roll into an upright sitting position. My bike was dinged up a bit, and his front bumper was completely obliterated, and the radiator grille was hit hard enough by my booted foot and foot-peg, to be dented and leaking. Next 4-6 weeks i had something bumping up and down in the middle of my foot with every step i took, when i walked DOWN on stairs. Not painful, just uncomfortable. So i just walked it off... No need to wasting anybodies time. But otherwise i was completely unharmed, no scratches, no fractures, not even bruised ^^D moral of the story: invest in proper protective clothing and wear it.

They’re a married couple, she was riding on the back while he drove. They were both ejected from the bike; he was propelled into another vehicle, and she ended up on the side of the road in a ditch. He lost his left leg above the knee, tons of fractures and abrasions. She died on impact. Please be conscientious of motor cycle riders. The driver of the sedan was 100% at fault. As I breathed in my lungs Immediately felt like they were on fire, & like I had breathed in razor blades. I was coughing, eyes watering, & started wheezing, head started to spin. Thankfully my husband was with me & he helped me get out of there he saw the guy Vaping the same time I saw the guy. Once I was in an area where the air was fresh & I could catch my breath. I used my inhaler & was able to breathe clearly. But later on I developed a headache, & my sinuses became inflamed. Then my lungs, throat & sinuses were sore. It was worse than when I had a sinus infection and bronchitis. So I knew Vaping was going to be a very bad habit to start or just try.

    Other tip people should hear: if you get any chemical/pepper, etc. in your eyes - wash them out with water ASAP, generally 15 minutes. Shove your face under a tub faucet or if you have an eye wash station, use it. Then get to the Hospital to get checked out. You want to get that out of your eyes immediately so it’s not there doing more damage.

    Vaping is actually great for people to stop smoking, you can dose the nicotine and go slowly down to 0. The problem is that they were allowed to do marketing and youths are complete suckers for marketing.... They should be sold in pharmacies only if you ask me and not allowed to do marketing. Which is actually the case in most countries, but not surprising that they can in the US given you guys allow ads for pretty much everything, even medication.....
