It's really hard to do I mean I don't think (or at least hope) that I am a beginner but I compared my MOC with other hoth MOCs and they r so much better even I spend one and a half year on building this huge thing At least when I compare it with the MOCs I build before my recent MOC is way better and has more details

i started moc building more seriously about 3 years ago and i straight up jumped in with a giant first order base. i made alot of changes to it cuz i sat on it for some time. it didn't turn out bad but when i started making smaller scenes i really improved fast, like i think my skills on making mocs doubled in 3 months after making that change

What I would add, which also happened to me when building a moc, is it is ok to take your time do not rush it. Some months ago I was planning a new spaceship for 1 pilot and was starting with the wings, after a few hours of trying to make the rest of the ship: engines, cockpit and the middle part I could not complete it I was stuck. Months later I was building all that was missing but forgot the wings until I was trying to build wings for it I thought "wait a minute I built these wings maybe they will fit to it" minutes later after connecting the wings to the ship (perfect fit) I had a complete spaceship which had become the ship I visualized months earlier.

Starting small is a great help. Building little chunks of MOCs, maybe 16x16 at most, helped a lot with landscaping and mini figure placement

  • @salvadorcantu7566

I started buying lego again (for the first time as an adult) at the beginning of 2022, and as of april I discovered pick a brick and started buying parts to make small scenes and/or stands for my SW ships. Then bricklink rebrickable, etc. I keep getting better and better and I learn from watching you and other MOC builders. And some months ago I was like "oh man, I wish I had a lot of parts like you" but as you said, I realized I can just build small detailed MOCs, and now I make "small" modular escenes and place them next to each other. And that way I motivate myself in becoming better and better and not worry about the size, cos in the end I'll have enough mini MOCs and when displayed together it looks like a big one. I have a shelf full with Hoth mini MOCs and Lego sets and it looks great. Another shelf with clone wars, my empire fleet (vaders fist) and another 2 with mixed stuff. You and other youtubers are the reason my learning process is so fast. That being said I wish for a circular building tutorial, cos I want some kamino platform as standa for my bad batch shuttle and obi wan starfighter, and mine looks horrible 😅. Thinking about doing a snot platform. But I need hinge pieces. Anyways thanks for the content, keep it up!

Aside from a few small scene-builds from the Mandalorian, Clone Wars, and Bad Batch, my only major Moc is a Rebels Ghost moc that I'm very proud of. This might be sort of paraphrase of your last tip but I would add this as a tip: Accept that your moc may never be "finished." Be open to adapting, learning, and utilizing new techniques you've learned and going back to an older project and improving it. Great video! The tip on comparing yourself to others is something I learned early on with my Ghost build.

when he said “there will always be someone better than you but always someone worse than you” It really helped me visualize that i’m not that horrible at MoC building and i’m relatively new i started about 8 months ago and my largest moc is probably Obi-Won vs Darth Vader from the obi wan show but i’m glad i’m starting t get better progressively

I tend to not build at all until I'm excited by an idea. At that point I will go hog wild until I run out of pieces and then I get mad and eventually depression sets in due to not continuing or finishing the moc. To stop this from happening, I have stopped building all together and am currently just collecting pieces of any and every color that I like. Every week, I either get a few pab cups and a small bricklink order or if there is nothing good on the pab wall I will just make a huge bricklink order. The amount of pieces my collection has grown by in such a short time is absolutely insane. Can't wait till I can get back to building cause there r 3 projects that r sitting around unfinished

This is a wonderful video, thank you so much! I grew up with more "early" LEGO. My children grew up with LEGO. Now, at 66 years of age, I have recenetly returned to LEGO for stress reduction, relaxation and just plain fun. Your advice is brilliant. As a retired elementary school teacher, I feel I should have inherently known some of your points already, but I didn't. I love your idea of "thinking in LEGO" when out and about and observing things. Also, your advice on not comparing ones self to others was something I needed to hear. I try to design relatively "mini" MOCs of spaceships. Compared to other mini models I have seen on KZread and other sites, what I create is child's play. But it's a start. Above all, it's very enjoyable and if something doesn't work out you can always disassemble and try a different way of doing it. Thank you again very much for such great ideas and advice. Liked and Subscribed. Best wishes!

I like how most of these tips are just genal creative advice which is still great as not everyone has being doing art for awhile... Also while I played with lego and made custom stuff before I never used it to make a moc so I'm nervous like I have almost all the pieces I used need to sit done and build. Which is what I always do when starting new things. Which I like everyone to remember this is Lego you can rebuild it if you are unhappy with it.

3:29 I would just like to add some parenthesis, I much prefer mixed stud+tiles like on the dirt part of his Utapau MOC than on the all smothered out platform. "But it is pretty clean on the source material" ok, u can still make more interesting shapes like using the studs in a line and not on the other, following the floor pattern with some studs, using jumper plates, it looks a lot more pleasing than a bunch of tiles all throughout the build. So don't tile it completely off like some like to do, if you got to know coconut from this video, please take a look at some of his MOCS and you'll see how he mixes things up in some mocs and it looks fenomenal.

I'm not sure if this is just a problem for me, but when I try to build a moc, the main reason the project burns out is because I want to jump right to the (sexy?) part of moc building which to me is getting the minifigs and vehicles. I spend so much of my budget on these things that I never really get to buying the parts.

I want to make a retro style Space Lego base. The more dated looking the better. It should look like 1979

Ive been trying to build Steam locomotive MOCs, and I can just never find anyone talking about how they do it or instructions or tips or anything. Some people will do nothing but churn out these amazing 1:48 scale lego locomotives, and then they hide how they do it. Wheres the fun in that?
