Perhaps it's my love of psychology, but I never stop there with madness. I tend to delve deeper into the why of the madness. Is it a curse, did they make contact with an eldritch god, is it a temporary thing, can it be cured? How does it manifest; does the person babble incoherently (dropping clues within their word salad), do they wear odd things as though they were clothes, or is it more of a slow burn (like a knight on a quest to slay a dragon, only to attack windmills.)?

Thank you very much for your next How to be a Great GM episode. After reading your book "The Practical Guide to be a Great GM" (thank you, Christmas holidays), I now understand your advice and hints more clearly. Still, applying it to my storytelling will be much more difficult, as usual. The new guy/Guy "The GM" was right in this episode: "It's going to be tricky..." :D I particularly like the new style of the episodes, where a bit simple person of "The GM" asasksThe Great GM". At first (a few episodes back) I thought that it was only funny, but in the previous episode, it actually helped me to understand the problem a lot (e.g. the difference between Bounty Hunter and Assasin types of Encounters). Again thank you very much for your work. :) Best regards from the Czech Republic (by the way, we have quite a lot of medieval castles here for a new "D&D in a Castle" events ;)

I'm glad you made this for any ttrpg system. It makes perfect sense and no tweaks to fit. Kick ass.

"Mindless" actually opens up some interesting variations on "thwart" adventures. The PC's have to try a bit harder if they're stopping someone they LIKE from doing something they don't like. (eg: blackmail, mind control, curse, lycanthropy, misinformation)

How about foes acting from heroic motivations - from their perspective? Rescue an ally from forces of law and order; undermine an oppressive state to villians rights. Drop party straight into moral complexity.

Kinda reminds me of Assault on Precinct 13. The father was protecting/avenging his family. Those gang members were attacking due to their code. The people in the station were defending themselves and the others there. Plenty of payoff for a little setup for conflict. Excellent Worldbuilding lessons there.

I though of an NPC being blackmailed as a motive to attack/engage the PCs. I’m not sure if this is different from the four categories you’ve discussed or not. It kind of falls under contractual, but the underlying motive can be far more powerful/persuasive than money. Just a thought.

Guy, I am really disappointed with the map making Kickstarter with project Deios you set up. Do you have any comments on what happened with that or what the plan is? I love the channel and have gotten a lot of good info and you may have addressed this in another video but i haven't found it.

Heya - Project Deios continues it's development. They regularly release videos on the dungeon fog youtube channel with monthly updates. I'm merely an ambassador for the product, I have nothing to do with the company or the software, although what they've released thus far is super exciting. Check out their website too for more info!
