But a guy came up to my table where I was eating my lunch and without asking any questions or expressing regret for having no other seating options available to him just sat down at my table without acknowledging my presence. I cut the ice with a remark about the seating in high demand. He smiled and nodded but didn't verbally say anything (except for maybe "yes") and never would at any later time before I excused myself upon I finishing my meal. I've actually wondered if it was a prank of some kind or an attempt to get a reaction out of me. It was odd, as he didn't have a hostile or otherwise aggressive demeanor about him; but he didn't announce his presence with a greeting per standard etiquette. Anyway, it didn't bother me (though I suspect it might have others), and I didn't mind sharing my table since I was by myself anyway. But it was all rather unusual.

@@user997j77user Except I really don't know if he was fine. Maybe; maybe not. I was more than happy in making the personal choice to be charitable and accommodating. But I still would not condone his dismissal of common courtesy and social etiquette. Folks do select tables that include other seats frequently because they are with a party or are expecting others eventually to join them. It is considered inappropriate not to ask if an empty seat or space is taken by a table that's already being occupied. It is also disrespectful to disregard issuing any greeting whatsoever, but to ignore a current occupant instead and then up garrison a seat at their table that, if nothing else, is easily within the spartial sphere of many people's personal comfort zone.
