My great great great great grandfather Theophilus Rodenbough was the Brigadier general in the battle of Gettysburg, he was with the union . And he even got the medal of honor. You can look him up on Wikipedia.

Wow that is amazing history !!! I had two uncles and a cousin there. My great great grandfather missed it because he was recovering from wounds at second Bull Run. The cousin died of wounds received in the Wheatfield. One uncle was on Little Round Top and the other in the Peach Orchard.

@@jasonking566 That is amazing Jason. President McKinley was a very distant cousin of mine. General Picket forbid any of his people to speak ill of Lincoln which I thought was amazing. I have a book of the letters he and his wife wrote back and forth. He was an amazing general! I have a picture Ron Lesser did of Picket and some of his Commanders called "Into the Jaws of Hell" ! Everyone is thought it was about slavery????? I tell them no-State's Rights !!!!

My family all fought for the wrong side! The right one in the Revolution but the wrong side in the Civil War. They fought for the north.

We really appreciate you taking the time to read out the Gettysburg Address on the very spot where those words were first delivered. It was fitting and exceptionally moving. Many Thanks Jordan.

Really good job on Gettysburg. I live 15 mins away from the town. If you had gone down Middle st you would have seen a house that still has a natural gas front porch light. There are also several houses that still have the holes or markings from musket & gun shots. Shame you weren't able to see the statue of Lincoln in the square called The Visit. It had been removed in March of this year for a total restoration. If it is allowed I will post it to Facebook & hope you get the chance to see it & I will mention the source of picture as well.

There is a palpable energy in Gettysburg - sober, haunting, sacred, serene and enchanting all intertwined. I have visited Gettysburg a number of times, and feel as though I can't take enough of it in for lack of time. Thank you for vlogging about this very important part of our history, and honoring those who fought to preserve our Union.

Terrific video. Would be honored to stand on the same ground where these brave soldiers fought and died. Union and Confeferate both. And to be close to where President Lincoln delivered the Gettyburg Address would be totally awsome. I am envious to my fellow Americans who have visited these hallowed grounds.

I love history and especially American history. My family and I visited Gettysburg about 30 years ago and I have been wanting to go back, thank you for this, I could spend days just going around there, such a wonderful video, you always do such a wonderful job on everything, thank you so much.

Great content Jordan; if you're ever in Gettysburg again, I highly recommend visiting the Gettysburg Museum of History as it not only covers civil war history but has large sections dedicated to presidential history, Hollywood, and also has a lot of personal items from Band of Brothers (E-Company 506th PIR) commander Richard Winters. Well worth the visit and lots of items on display.

Hey Jordan. This town is my favorite go-to when I need to get away. My great great grandfather fought in the battle in the 145th Pennsylvania infantry. I have been paying my respects for over 25 years. It is the most humbling place I have ever been. Not sure where you are going in PA, but, I live here and would LOVE to give treats to Jah! Thanks, Jordan, for the Gettysburg visual history lesson. The time you put in for all aspects of creating your vlogs is always appreciated. This episode went by quickly even though it's almost 23 minutes. I could have watched 10 minutes more. It's poignant seeing the memorial sections which indicate the "unknown" soldiers. A man gives his life to preserve our nation and we don't even know his name, how old he was, or who his people were. Very sad. It happens in every war, of course. That's one of the things that makes war so rotten no matter if it is a just war or not.

Really enjoyed this, may we never go to war against our brethren again. High on my bucket list.

I visited Gettysburg in the 1970's. Back then there were fewer monuments and no beautiful exhibit buildings. That cyclorama theater is wonderful. Wow! Great vlog Jordan. (Mwah, Jah!)

Gettysburg is one of the most sacred places on earth ! Many many many times I have walked these hallowed grounds. When you stand at the copse of trees and look where those poor heroic southern boys marched a mile in the open being hit with murderous cannon shot and shell but they kept coming, I had tears in my eyes !All are heroes on both sides ! GOD BLESS AND KEEP AMERICA !!!

We went to Gettysburg once on July 4th. We went on a midnight ghost walk which gave some interesting ghost stories but mostly information about how things were done back then. It was fun -- very crowded but worth going the whole day. Lots of country there! Beautiful place!

My wife and I went on a ghost tour of the field hospitals with Miss Betty in '09. We had a really strange thing happen to our small group(just us and a woman with her young son) at Sach's Bridge and then later at The Grove which is right in front of the middle school. There are definitely some strange things going on around Gettysburg. One night we went out of town to get something to eat and we were driving along one of the back roads and we drove through a thin long row of fog which resembled a row of soldiers. I'm now 62 and I've never seen fog like that before or since. I'm not saying it was paranormal but it was really strange. We've been to Gettysburg a handful of times.....love being on those hallowed grounds.

@@hondaphan4172 the small flags by each grave at the African American cemetery would fly or not fly randomly. The ones that flew were said to be soldiers on duty or active spirits and the flags not flying were at rest. Such a strange phenomenon when you think if the wind was blowing--they would all be flying…

@@Cardoo46 I never heard about that...fascinating. At Sachs Bridge our small group were sitting near the waters edge and all of a sudden Miss Betty tells us that something just touched her leg. There's obviously no way for me to verify or debunk her claim but what I DO know is the fact that two cell phones, a digital camera and a camcorder with fully-charged batteries in our group died the moment she blurted it out. The second weird thing which took place occurred at The Grove which is in front of the middle school. The Grove was the place where the Louisiana Tiger sharpshooters were massacred. Miss Betty warned us beforehand that sometimes the small group of trees which comprises The Grove has a strange phenomenon which is you'll feel a light breeze while standing in the middle of it but the leaves on the trees don't move at all.....and that is exactly what happened. It also felt like I was walking through semi-solid entities as wind would rush past my ears when I would come in contract with them and then exit them. It was bizarre. When we went back in 2017 they had decked the old middle school and built a new one basically in the same place but the new school sits a little closer to the road and it now sits on a hill. The trees of The Grove are no longer there which was kind of a bummer.

Another thing that happened that could have been a coincidence was just as the guide said that on July 4th, you sometimes can’t tell the difference between Reinactors and spirits as they both roam the streets that day; a couple dressed in costumes walked by our group. They didn’t comment, they kept walking. But it was at 12:00 midnight so it wasn’t exactly working hours and a lot of places were closed. Lots of interesting stories about the place.

Well, Gettysburg has changed since I was there in the late 1970s. It was so beautiful. Every tree was in full leaf. It was green everywhere you looked setting the perfect background for the white headstones and statues alike. Standing alone on some battle sights you could almost hear the sounds of war drowning out the sound of your own heart beating. The graves of those buried there seemed to go on almost endlessly. It is one of the saddest and yet lovely places I have been to in this country of mine.

Gettysburg has been a place I’ve always wanted to visit but never have. Thank you for the great video.

President Eisenhower owned a farm there in Gettysburg and it is now a national historic site. It is open for tours. You have to purchase a ticket at the visitors center and catch the bus over to it. The items inside the house are as it were back when he and Mamie lived there. Pretty neat!

My father was a Civil War buff so when I was a kid he took the family to Gettysburg in the 1970's. I remember seeing the Cyclorama, which was too overwhelming for a little kid to take in. I do remember the detail of, in a tiny, nondescript spot, the artist's depiction of himself, sketching out the scene. I remember the guide pointing it out. Heck, if I could paint a Cyclorama, I'd put myself in it too.

Thankyou so much Jordon. I've viewed several vloggers re: this monumental & significant site. Your episode was absolutely brilliant & the best take of this location I've seen. Here I am sitting at home with miss Eleanor-Rigbey watching you take us with you to specific areas. When You showed us the panaramic view of the battlefield, I felt that is been transported there. So, so many unfortunately perished over the course of those three blood filled days. Lest we forget. I, personally think that, from a global perspective, we should all be aware of the sacrifices men like this made during times of battle. Lest we forget. It would be great if you could go back to Gettesburg when the museum opens. Thank you again Jordon.

Awesome video Jordan!!Gettysburg is my favorite battlefield to study and visit. I’ve been there 5 times and still haven’t seen everything. Im going back this summer. This video made me so excited to get out there.

Gettysburg is one of the favorite places i’ve visited. very cool experience.

Because I'm a history and a Civil War but, I've visited all of the CW battlefields. By far Gettysburg, that I've visited 4X, is my very favorite and I hope to go again soon. The Gettysburg Address moves me to tears everytime someone recites it. What a wonderful country we have and it's so sad to see those who want to destroy our memorials and our history. As Jesus said on the cross, forgive them father because they know not what they do. We need to put an end to the madness.

Great video. I love it out there. My parents use to live in Hagerstown MD so easy access to a lot of historic sites. Like you said you definitely need more than a day to take it all in!

The main orator at Gettysburg for the dedication was a man named Edward Everett. He spoke for nearly three hours. Lincoln was there to make 'a few appropriate remarks.' Everett told Lincoln he wished he had captured the spirit of the moment as well as Lincoln did in his brevity!

I LOVE Gettysburg. I really need to get back up there it's about an 1 1/2 hours away from me in Baltimore. I've never delved into the Campus side of the town but You need to go back and check out the monuments my favorite is the NY Irish Brigade on Sickles Ave.

Excellent history vlog. It was strange and sad to be there and think how many thousands of people died on those hills. I remember it being very quiet there. More Americans died at that location in one day than any other place in America since the country began. Hopefully it will forever hold that record.

Me and my mom are planning a trip to gettysburg. I live a couple of hours away.

My dad and I would go to Gettysburg every Easter. (Spooky because I just found this and am reading this on Easter Sunday.) But we were told by a ranger that the actual site of the speech was just on the other side of that black iron fence in the town cemetery. Close to the soldiers monument but not quite. Btw Lincoln's diner serves a great breakfast.

Very cool! My husband is a distant cousin of Lincoln. My husbands family is descended from Lincoln’s dads brother.

I can’t wait to go back to Gettysburg. There are so many things to see. The Shriver house tour, where soldiers actually occupied Mr. Shriver’s house, so they could go up in the attic and shoot out into the opposing army of men, as they march up the road. They take you up in the attic. They also have a ghost tour, at night, in that same house. The Jenny Wade house tour, also has a ghost tour, at night. There is also, a fantastic ghost tour, what use to be an orphanage.....must see! The Eisenhower farm, a retreat, the Eisenhower’s frequented, was also, one of the tours. I’m not sure if that is still open. You could only get in via a bus tour. The bus tours of the battlefield are excellent. The Dobbin House pub has great food and drinks, along with many other fantastic places to eat. Thank you for reminding me of this wonderful, historic, place, Jordan.

If you're ever in the Boston area check out The Lexington And Concord Massachusetts where the battle of Lexington started it's a really cool museum full museum original houses and bars are still there as well

Me and my family was there in the late 80's, you really need to go back and see more Jordan. My family took (what was at that time a cassette tour) and ended up at one point at little round top to see that site and happened to be beside a guided tour and learned (by the guide) that the General or commander any way, for the north that was leading the artillery was concerned about it being quiet and had one of his cannons fire a round at the bottom of the hill and saw what looked like a bunch of fireflies twinkling at the bottom, he "knew" that it was southern forces headed his way, so he sent someone to the rear and get more reinforcements which according to the guide "made the difference between us talking northern and southern". I need to get back there and see it today!

I heard a lot of interesting things gone on at night in Gettysburg. Some cemetery personal have reported hearing Canon fire, the smell of gun powder and also have apparitions of soldiers still fighting in the battle.

Great Vlog

This is great. I was there in 2013 for a week for the 150th festivities with my husband, who has a degree in history and knows a lot about the civil war. We are also civil war reenactors here in California but since the pandemic and current politics the re-enactments we used to do have not been held. He actually participated in one of the re-enactment battles when we were there, on a confederate canon crew. I just dressed as a lady. Anyway, we had an awesome time and saw so much. I don’t recommend going for the battle anniversary though as it’s at the hottest time of the year and very crowded. We want to go back sometime maybe in late spring or early fall.

Next time you are in the area Check out Evergreen Cemetery next to the National Cemetery. It has some interesting graves of note.

Another outstanding and educational video my good man! Would you consider a two-day adventure to Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio one of these days? They have some of the highest, fastest and most wicked roller coasters in the WORLD! They also have many, many other attractions that can be enjoyed by grownups and kids alike! Just Google the amusement park and view a couple of videos and you may just do that! It would make for a GREAT vlog!! Again, thanks for all you do with your vlogging and keep up the great work!!
