Grateful for this post. I was diagnosed a little while back. My doctor did a biopsy to see what was going on. I had inflammation , sores, bumps that were literally giving me migraines.. she wasn’t AA so she wasn’t sure where to go beyond injections. I wanted a more natural treatment. She told me my hair would never grow back due to the scar tissue. I started doing my own research. Changed to an anti inflammatory diet, mixed up tea tree, rosemary, and castor as the carrier and prayed.. my hair amazingly stared growing back. Now I have started locs very small like rice lol but im grateful

Hi and thank you so much for sharing your story! I am actually going to be uploading an alopecia update sometime this week, but I have recently started taking my anti Inflammatory diet seriously. Congratulations on your hair regrowth and the success that you've experienced taking a natural approach! That gives me a lot of hope.

Greetings, I can across your channel and the title so I clicked on. I was diagnosed with CCCA at age 46, I’m now 55, it started out the size of a dime in the center of my head and now it’s the size of an orange and the hair around the balding is very thin so I no longer wear my natural hair out anymore more ( personal choice) I wear a lot of protective styles now and wigs ( they’re cute girl). It was hard to come to terms with in the beginning because I had thick past the shoulders length hair. I used to do all the things you’re doing and I stopped but since watching your video I’m motivated to try again. Thank you so much for sharing your story!

I’m so glad you have a great Loctitian…. This makes me want to switch Loctitians because in not sure if she would notice a difference in my scalp. I’m also so glad you have a BLACK dermatology provider that appreciates and understand our skin and hair! As you know I’m a nurse practitioner with dermatology background, and I just attended a conference in August and one of the topics covered was CCCA!!! I so enjoyed that topic and the information and treatments available. Stay the course with treatment ❤❤❤❤❤❤

Thank you! I just got a retie a few days ago and I thanked my loctician several times because I don't know if I would ever figured it out on my own. Yes and amen for the black dermatologist! It took me a while to find her and then several months to be seen, but it was worth it because now I'm on a regular rotation with her. What a coincidence about your conference you attended! And God bless you for the work you do, it is really needed. Thank you, I pretty much will be down for whatever my dermatologist subscribes. She was very encouraging, so that helps me feel more open to following her advice.

I have CCCA. I have been diagnosed via biopsy, and also have a Black woman dermatologist. Here is everything I did to grow my hair back, although I am still struggling. 1) Went on doxycycline for three months: This is an antibiotic and can help stop the inflammation. 2) Steroid injections every month for six months. 3) Prescription topical Minoxidil with Tretinoin and a steroid. 4) PRP injections a few times. 5) Started Nutrafol supplement. 6) Spironolactone: Went on and off but this really helped. 7) Nizoral shampoo. This took me from two very large bald areas on the side of my head to having hair again. Although the bald patches are not at long as they used to me. Now I just use the prescription topical and take Nutrafol. I wish I had started the more aggressive treatments sooner before I lost so much hair.

Thank you so much for sharing your treatment plan. That’s amazing that you were able to regrow your hair! We tried the docycycline but I had a really bad allergic reaction to it. The next step in my plan was the shots into the scalp, but between the my topical metformin and clobetasol, as well as everything I’ve done holistically, we were able to stop it from advancing. I am glad you didn’t give up and that you were and to find something that works. Good luck to you!

I cut my micro locks the same year that you recorded this video because my crown was thinning. After cutting it I fell into that tunnel of uncertainty of what to do with my 4C hair. Perming it was out. I don’t like how fros look on me and wigs are too hot. Lately I’ve been considering getting sisterlocks because there are now more certified consultants in my city and I miss being locked but am afraid to make that investment only to have to cut them again. Thanks for your video! I started taking Nutroful and I’m going to see a dermatologist before scheduling a sisterlock consultation. Thanks again for this video.

Thank you for this video. I was diagnosed with aleopia, but i think it's ccca. It started small but now it's big. Ive been considering traveling to another state to see a black dermatologist. Im on a journey for better health and hair. Im 42 just have a baby 2 years ago, i think my hormones are getting back to their normal. When I have scalp flair ups, i use aloe vera and turmeric paste(i make it). Both are good for inflammation. I am also pre-diabetic, so im changing the way I eat. I live it Az, and its very dry here, so i oil my spot with clove oil and tee tree oil. I also take collegen and d3, i feel like both helped my hair stay healthy. Its just the inflammation. So, im now taking pumpkin seed oil and turmeric with black pepper, and limiting my stress. My hair does grow back, just not as long. I do wear braids, i dont braid the spot where the aleopia is i braid around it and pull the rest up in a loose ponytail. Ive been contempleting on getting microlocs because of the size and the lightness of them.

Hi! I’m sorry to hear that you have alopecia. Yes having a black female dermatologist has been a game changer for me. I’m glad that you’ve been able to figure out some lifestyle changes to help control your inflammation. This February I was diagnosed with CCCA and I also have a blk female dermatologists. My locs were almost down to my butt. I noticed my edges were thinning about 2 yrs ago. Then I lost my eyebrows. I self diagnosed myself with tension alopecia and cut my locs to my chin. It was a relief to loss the weight of my hair, but it continued to get thin. Finally decided to get a biopsy and the results were CCCA. I didnt want to do steroid injections because I am a diabetic so I just cut all my hair off. The balding in the middle and losing my hair line was too much to handle. Emotionally I'm still a mess but want to eventually get myself together to try some holistic approaches. Good luck on your journey!!!

I am so very sorry to hear of what happened to your locs. I can only imagine that must have been very difficult for you to go through ❤️ I kind of obsessed on the topic of alopecia and I also did an obsessive amount of research when I was first diagnosed, and I feel like I remember reading somewhere that hair follicle transplants may be possible with CCCA patients after the CCCA becomes dormant. I didn’t dig too deeply into it, but that may be an interesting option to research with your dermatologist. There are medical journals published about it on the internet. There is one woman here on KZread who, she doesn’t have CCCA, but she did get follicle transplants and it’s been very interesting to watch her journey. It always intrigued me. Good luck to you as you explore your options. Take care.

Thank you for sharing your journey. I’ve also got locs and CCCA too. It is possible to keep your hair, just don’t retwist so often and leave your hair to do it’s own thing. Also keep your scalp as clean as possible so don’t change your current washing regime. Like one of the other comments mentioned too, changing to an anti-inflammatory diet will really help. One question, did your dermatologist do a biopsy to confirm it was actually CCCA, I can’t remember if you mentioned that.

I have an area on my right side of my head where my hair is thinner and I have no locks there. It is easy to hide and it isn't bald, just thinner and shorter. I am hoping to leave it alone that it will grow back and hopefully I can get one or two locks in there. I am a white female with wavy/some natural curl. My hair strands are fine, average thickness overall with density, with a tendency to get really dry. My scalp is also very dry. I am in peri-menopause, turning 50 in February, so I had assumed that was the issue... but now I am wondering. I do have ME (many call it chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia). My hair has thinned as I have aged (it used to be really think in my 20s) but was told that is very common... but yeah, now I am worried. Do you have any advice for me? Should I look for a Black dermatologist also? Most white people have no clue about locks and automatically assume that it is the locks that are the problem. Thanks in advance for any time you have to answer my questions!!!

Hi and thank you for your comment! I am so sorry to hear about the issues that you are having. I know that a lot of derms will blame locs, but my derm said my loc style is great and they aren't done too tightly. She did say that i may have to stop growing them somewhere past shoulder length so they don't get too heavy for my scalp...having said all of that, you may want to consider looking for a black derm who should hopefully have more expertise working with locs. There are lots of different types of alopecia and reasons why it may flare up so having a derm weigh in on your situation is very helpful. I know it's not easy finding a good derm and it may take a few consults to find the right fit but for me it was worth it. Hang in there and good luck to you. Take care!

My dermatologist is pretty experienced and she has used a dermatoscope to diagnose my ccca. Some derms will do a scalp biopsy.
