Sissel’s breakthrough came at the age of 16 when she was invited to perform as the interval act at the 1986 Eurovision Song Contest in her hometown of Bergen, Norway.
Her first album, simply titled “Sissel”, was released the same year and made her a national star overnight, winning her “Artist of the Year” at the Norwegian Grammy Awards, Spellemannprisen.

I met her earlier this month after her most recent concert. She is gracious and so easy to talk with. And tall and actually more handsome in the flesh than appearing in videos.
I wasn't even born, but this is one of Sissel's my favourite moment!
The piercingly pitch-perfect and crystal clear voice of Sissel never fails to impress this violinist's ear ! Her singing is absolutely divine and angelical. She deserves a statue between the Oslo Opera house and the statue of Kristin Flagstad!

In 86, this was our first glimpse in the UK of the child Sissel. Terry Wogan was our Eurovision commentator back then. He said, as Siss on stage took the applause, "What a beautiful, beautiful singer." while we thought, she should win it, even though she was only an interval act.
