Sissel "Going Home" Wow, SO Emotional!! REACTION & BREAKDOWN by Modern Life for the 70's Mind

Ойын-сауық

This was such an emotional song. It was so sad, yet so uplifting at the same time. This is one you really need to listen to! Sung beautifully by such a talented singer.
Welcome to my “Modern Life for the 70's Mind” KZread Channel. On this channel, I not only take a look at the songs and history that made us who we are today, but also introduce you to today's modern music as well. Any songs that combine the two are always a winner. I've always loved music and have always tried to keep a balance between the classic music I fell in love with and today's MUCH DIFFERENT sounds. Here's we'll analyze both. We’ll even take some time and revisit some of the old parts of our past that have disappeared from today’s shelves and most people’s memories, I call it Bob's Cabinet of Curiosity. Let’s relive those moments together! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking time out of your day to check in. I appreciate it more than I can say here.

Sissel Kyrkjebø,June 24, 1969 (age 52 years) Bergen,Norway, also simply known as Sissel, is a Norwegian soprano. Sissel is considered one of the world's top crossover sopranos. Her musical style ranges from pop recordings and folk songs, to classical vocals and operatic arias.

Heard her first time when she was 14 in Norwegian TV. Hear a young Sissel singing "Solitair" with Neil Sedaka and then "Slow down" with the Tabernacle Choir. The melody used in "Going Home" is from Dvoraks 9th symphony called "From the New World" written when he lived in USA. Her last name is difficult for nonenorwegians but could be translated to Church(Kyrkje) and meadow (.bø) ... Almost Churchill.

Yes, Sissel's family name can be difficult to pronounce even for Norwegians. In English, many have got their family name from occupations, while in Norway the names are usually referred to geographical places such as farms and villages. The funny thing is that directly translated into English, her name becomes Church Hill and most likely her name comes from Kyrkjebø, which lies along the Sognefjord and where there is actually a church on a hill.

Hey Bob! Has followed Sissel for over thirty years and she is a national treasure in Norway. As for the warmth she conveys and natural singing technique, there are few who are in the same league in the world in my opinion. This is one of her best songs but there are a lot more. Thank you for this reaction you have my thoughts on your grief. Hope everything will be fine.

LOve your honest reaction Bob and very sorry for your recent loss! Yes her tone is very natural, no classical training beyond singing in a very good choir from early on, with a very good choir conductor from New Zealand. Hence she has sung in Maori! and about 15 other languages beyond English and Norwegian. In June she will have enthralled us for 40 years! There are tons of other songs to recommend you try for one more reaction, I choose 'The old Castle' - live - she wrote the lyrics on that one - kzread.info/dash/bejne/qX1s1pN_YdfLdLQ.html. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_recorded_by_Sissel will give you a scope of what she has been up to in music - it is a long list - like 51 pages long on my laptop... )

Excellent choice as an introduction to Sissel. This particular song is just astoundingly beautiful. I had heard it performed by a multitude of artists for years before I discovered it was composed by Antonin Dvorak over 100 years ago. My parents had an old recording of "Humoresque" by Dvorak and I loved that music growing up. My condolences for your loss. I can relate to what you are going through. I lost both my parents within a year of each other - Father first. Sissel has such a large catalogue of work that it's hard to recommend where to start or continue next. But, I would recommend any live version of "O Mio Babbino Caro". Also, her interpretation of "You Were Always on My Mind" I am sure makes Willie Nelson proud!

Her musical style ranges from pop recordings and folk songs, to classical vocals and operatic arias. The melody was written by the Czech composer Dvorak for his New World Symphony. He wrote it after visiting America in the 19th. Century. He wanted to capture the feel of the African American spirituals. In the early 20th. An American student of Dvorak, William Arms Fisher put lyrics to it. I first heard it, as a child, sung by the great black singer, actor and rights activist Paul Robeson. His deep bass voice and passion really do it justice.

To my knowledge Sissel has not written any songs or music, but she definitely create music as she enter the stage or a studio. She is one of those singers that seems so effortless, and in so much control of what she does. I have always loved her crystal clear voice. Still she sound so soft and are so comfortable to listen to. I guess she was probably the first one to bring tears to my eyes by singing, as she started her career in the 1980s. There has been a few more since that, like Eva Cassidy, Angelina Jordan, Aurora and even Sigrid as she sings her strong and tender song "Dynamite", that you reacted to. There have been others, even guys. 😉 But usually singers mainly triggers my enjoyment and those happy good feelings. Sissel has tons of great performances like this, and you can likely not go wrong whatever you pick for a reaction. I would love to see your reaction to her performance of the grate song "You Raise Me Up" by the Irish/Norwegian duo "Secret Garden". (The norwegian composer and pianist Rolf Løvland and the irish violinist Fionnuala Sherry). Sissel`s performance in this video is accompanied by KORK (as you saw also in Angelinas performance of Summertime). kzread.info/dash/bejne/oIOOrdeLgtHYl5s.html

Bob, I've been where you are now. I really sympathize. You have got the measure of Sissel. She is not the product of conservatoires or music schools, thankfully. They might have changed her voice to what they think it should be in the name of better technique. She is herself. And she is an emotional singer who once said, "You can't sing while you're crying" But she has done so (Sally Gardens) and proved herself wrong. This song is based on faith & conviction and knowing where you are going in death. And Sissel believes sincerely. She has lost close friends and knows that pain. So she sings beyond the pain, in what is finally left of us... love.

Your reaction was wonderful and very insightful and thoughtful though I could see the song was a bit much for you emotionally. So far as I know Sissel has had no formal voice training so full marks for saying it seemed such a natural voice. Sissel never pushes her voice. The sound that comes out is as pure, clear and beautiful as Waterford Crystal. Your reaction to this song and another great one to Slow Down has made me subscribe to your channel. Well done. Hello Bob! Hehe. Rackin' up the number of Norwegian female singers, are we ?? At least the reactions to them :-) You are completely correct in that her voice is all natural, and not constructed in any way. I first heard her in a Norwegian TV programme called "Syng Med Oss" (Sing With Us) when she was 14 or 15 I believe. She sounded this was already back then :-) Her absolute trademark is her CRYSTAL clear voice, and I would like to recommend one of MY personal favorites from her in that regard. It's her rendition of "O Mio Babbino Caro" in concert. Crystal clear voice, here we go : kzread.info/dash/bejne/c2WNraSrhdTdebg.html I'm pretty sure you will love it. Hello Bob, and Norway again. And another hit. I also only recently found Sissel and know very little about her. But that impressed me. She reminds me of Celtic Woman, who I love to listen to and whose concerts in Hamburg I also attended. In 2006, Sissel received the Order of Saint Olav (Knight 1st Class) from the King of Norway for her contribution as Norway's Music Ambassador. She was the youngest recipient of this award. Can you imagine Sissel in armor on a horse? That's what went through my head when I read "Knight 1st Class". 🤣😂 Sissel was born in Bergen in 1969 and is now 52 years old. Many of her albums have reached number 1 in Norway, surpassing the highest album sales figures of the time. If you like this kind of music, we will still have a lot to do.😄😁 I wish you and your family a happy Easter.🐇🐇🐣 Greetings from Germany (It's getting warmer and spring is coming)

If you want a break for norwegian vocalists, I can recomend a vocalist from Faroe Island called Eivør and her song "Trodlabundin"(spellbound". Thats only filmed in Norway. I love "Trodlabundin" but have always thought a new Eivor listener should hear "Falling Free" first then you've got them hooked and they accept "Trodlabundin" as an extension of her skills. Hearing it first might make new listeners think she's just a folk singer and move on. Just my opinion, not worth much!

These lyrics were written in 1922 by William Arms Fisher, set to the final movement of Symphony No 9 (The New World Symphony) written by the Czech composer Antonin Dvorak in 1893 (Fisher had been a pupil of Dvorak at the National Conservatory of Music of America). Sissel's rendition, just like all of her work, is stunning. Here is another uplifting performance for you, British sisters Lucy and Martha Thomas (now aged aged 17 and 13), "You Raise Me Up" (kzread.info/dash/bejne/lolkkqeuk921maQ.html), recorded about a year ago, it is a breath taking performance. Isn't this from the 2nd Movement "Largo" from Dvorak's symphony #9 "From The New World". All 4 movements in that symphony are awesome. #1 and #2 are the most known movements although my favorite is the #4, "Finale: Allegro con fuoco". The symphony was written when he lived in USA and is inspired by native American music he had heard there. The symphony's emotions are about Dvorak missing his home country and particularly his region, Bohemia. Bohemia is part of today's Czech Republic.

The music is the main theme from the Largo movement of the 9th Symphony "From the New World" (1893) by the Czech composer Antonin Dvorak (1841 - 1904). kzread.info/dash/bejne/c4egxcpwgpTAptI.html The lyrics "Goin' Home" was written by one of Dvorak's pupils, William Arms Fisher (1861-1948), who adapted and arranged the Largo theme and added his own words This is part of what Fisher wrote in the published sheet music of his song, "Goin' Home": "The Largo, with its haunting English horn solo, is the outpouring of Dvorak's own home-longing, with something of the loneliness of far-off prairie horizons, the faint memory of the red-man's bygone days, and a sense of the tragedy of the black-man as it sings in his "spirituals." Deeper still it is a moving expression of that nostalgia of the soul all human beings feel. That the lyric opening theme of the Largo should spontaneously suggest the words 'Goin' home, goin' home' is natural enough, and that the lines that follow the melody should take the form of a negro spiritual accords with the genesis of the symphony." (William Arms Fisher, Boston, July 21, 1922.) Fisher described his song as: "a moving expression of that nostalgia of the soul all human beings feel." Thus, it might be suitable for a funeral or any other somber occasion.

Maybe someone made you a request to react to Dimash, but you have not had time .... I am going to dare to recommend that you meet Dimash, because when you do it for the first time, your life as reactor will change forever ....For example, the number of views that you have today, it will increase by 300% in a matter of a few hours and you will get a lot of new subscribers.....But when you react to Dimash, don't do it with his most recent songs ... I recommend that you go to the year 2017 and react to the song that made him a global idol ... I mean the performance he did Dimash from the famous French song called "SOS D'un Terrien en Détresse", when he participated in the famous Chinese reality show The Singer in that year 2017 ... With that performance Dimash earned the reputation of being the best singer on the planet, so I recommend you start with that one.... You can also start with the other famous live version of that song that Dimash did the following year 2018 when he was invited to the famous Slavic Bazzar festival in Belarus .... @@sivberitlangeland2467 I see...That's ok...Well I'm going to recommend you somebody else...I don't know if you know her: The Queen, the Goddess, the incomparable Lara Fabian...Lara is the best female singer and performer of the world...She is a lyric soprano with a amazing vocal range and incredible breath control....She speaks 5 languages and sings like in 15 languages....That's why she is the inspiration for Dimash and several singers around the world...You can see on KZread covers of her songs made by singers of the stature of: Dimash, Diana Ankudinova, Forestella, Sissel Kyrkjebo, Floor Jansen, Diana Navarro, Morissette Amon, Gabriel Henrique, Katrina Velarde, Cakra Khan and others...Please react to her songs, all masterpieces, in LIVE versions, because Lara is more impressive when she sings live, so you can see why she is the idol of Dimash...Try to do it in this order and almost all songs are from the same Lara’s concert “From Lara With Love” in Montreal 1999, one of her best works: 1) Je Suis Malade (Singing in French)...2) Caruso (Singing in Italian)...3) Je T'AIME (2002 Live version in Paris Singing in French)...4) Perdere L'Amore (1999 Live version Singing in Italian)...5) Adagio (1999 Live version singing in english)...6) Broken Vow (1999 Live version singing in English)...7) You are Not From Here (1999 Live version singing in English)...8) Quédate (1999 Live version singing in Spanish)....9) Ti Amo Cosi (2019 Live version Singing a trío with Dimash and Aida Garifullina)....I hope to see you first reaction soon and if you don't mind, I'd like you to mention me as the person who recommended reacting to Lara...Here you have the link of her amazing performance of the song “Je Suis Malade”....kzread.info/dash/bejne/l3yH281tg6rapbw.html
