Got to check it out at IBC last weekend, love to see companies offering this kind of tripod solution for a more affordable price. That said, I wasn't very impressed by the quality of the quick release system. In my experience it was very clunky to get it all the way up and down, the legs seemed to stiff and you needed to push quite hard to get them to move. The mid spreader system didn't seem to work well with it's locking functionality and was also getting in the way of quickly extending the tripod legs. (Sirui said this wasn't a final production version at IBC) With the Sachtler system (wich is ofcourse much more expensive) it's basically effortless to get the legs up and down, it feels really smooth.

Yeah I bought the legs on the indigogo campaign and I'm feeling less and less confident about that move. I guess we'll see after I've had some time with it.

I already have a couple of the Flowtechs with the Aktiv 8. Frankly, at 1/4 of the price, I don't expect the Sirui to be as good as the Sachtler, I think that would be an unrealistic expectation, but are they good enough to use and get work done with? I just bought the Sirui Nightwalker Prime set and it punches way above what I paid for them, they are my new favorite lenses, not perfect, but very good. I love a bargain and they are well made, the image is beautiful so when I saw this new tripod, I took a chance on the Pro kit. We shall see, mine is on the slow boat from China right now in the first batch.

@@danbrockettDOP Yea I never get comments that say they weren't impressed when comparing it to their Sachtler at 3-4 x the price. This isn't even out yet and when you first handle something from a different brand it will always have it's own 'feel' you need to get used to, which usually means owning it for a few months. I plan to give this setup a shot in the near future.

I see it wobbles from 4:22 again and again. Also, no spikes - means "no buy". It not the spikes, really. Thanks Johnie!

The first job of a tripod is to be sturdy enough for its loading rate before adding other features. Bad tripod

@@nguyentrongnhan35 sturdy tripod wobbles easily on the wind on fallen leaves or dense grass. screw-in spikes (with no any collars or knobs) is a must to prevent this. I just saw new blackmagic cinema 6k footage mountain shot on manfroto tripod with no spikes with lot of wobble on the wind.

Hey Johnny thanks for posting this video. Was curious if you know if this Sirui is better than the YC Onion PINETA Peak tripod?

Bought one of their heads from B&H and have had nothing but problems with it. Sent it back for repair and it came back with the same problem. Hopefully this new offing is better.

I have seen some negative reviews on B&H for several of their older heads. I'm hoping they have improved things on the SVT75. Companies can change and offer better quality as they spend years in the marketplace, but time will tell.

Will this work with Sachtler Aktiv heads?

Any 75mm bowl will take any 75mm ball head. It’s an industry standard.

  • @IanCresswell

@@danbrockettDOP wrong. The Sachtler Aktiv system does not work universally on just any 75mm head. The bowl connector only works on specific 75mm bowls of a certain thickness and design. That's why I asked. The YC Onion tripod ("Pineta Peak") that is analogous to this Sirui Rapid tripod has confirmed it works with the Sachtler Aktiv bowl connector. I can't seem to get a firm response from Sirui whether or not theirs will beyond "It's 75mm so it works". It has to be within certain tolerances, which is why I'm hoping someone somewhere can confirm compatibility, since I'd rather have the Sirui Rapid with a spreader than the Pineta Peak which does not offer a spreader.

I just received mine. It's most disappointing both in design and performance. The leg lockdown latches are too stiff. It takes a bite out of the speed of set up hyped by Sirui. But the biggest disappointment and omission in the all the “reviews” out there, is the lack of torsional rigidity. This becomes evident when panning. You can see the flex between the first and second leg sections, especially when fully extended. The flex may seem minor but this compromises precise long lens work as well as introduce backlash with fast moves or when on the higher pan settings. These legs can’t touch my similarly priced E - Image two stage CF legs in terms of stiffness and speed of use. My ultralight I Footage Gazelle has at least 4x more torsional stiffness at almost 1/3 the weight and half the price. If you don't need the precision that comes with stiff legs, they maybe for you. For my uses, I need both, speed and performance. Mine will be for sale shortly if they don't take returns. My only question is how much did they pay you?
