Sirui Saturn vs Viltrox Epic vs Blazar Remus, Sony GM and Mr. Ding Anamorfake Anamorphic Comparison

Ғылым және технология

Shot on Sony A1
Thank you very much Markus Beham for your support making this possible. Hugs go out to you!
Sometimes the Blazar has ghosting which is from the uv filter an not from the lens it self, it has the greenish second flare but the reflection of the light source is normally not there as much

The blazar Remus is sharp at the center and soft at the edges, which is what you want for a magical anamorphic look.

I took some screenshots of your log images, very helpful, thanks. And it's really amazing how much better the remus image looks just when you apply a CST (or conversion LUT) in Resolve compared to the GM image.

Thanks for taking the time to do this! We purchased the Viltrox Epic 35 and honestly the WEIGHT and the focus throw were both deal-breakers for us so we sent it back immediately. The thing weighed as much as the rest of our FX6 rig and even with a 150wh V-mount was still front heavy AF. Also pretty much a requirement to run wireless focus with that long of a throw. Just got our Remus set this week and shot a project on them and holy cow are they awesome. Easy to use handheld with no crew (but also built for use on sets with crews), lightweight and such a cool image.

Thanks for sharing your opinion man! Anamorphic lenses are a strange field there is always something :D some are too heavy, some could need more squeeze, some are not sharp and clean enough, some lack character to really make it worth not shooting spherical, some have and ugly flare. Overall i think there are up and downsides for every lens :) but so far the remus checks most things i want to have including a low price haha :D

Just got the Remus 65mm and have the 45mm on order and I currently also have sirui Saturn 35mm and Venus 75mm. The Remus are just a much more character and give you what you want in an anamorphic even though they are slightly less squeeze ratio.

@StarskiYall I agree. I’ve used the Sirui 1.6x anamorphics on a couple shoots, and while I enjoyed them they didn’t give me that “wow, this looks like cinema” reaction. Every time I have put on the Remus lenses I am blown away at how cool everything looks. Obviously not the right choice for EVERY project, but for the ones that call for them I’m stoked to have a set!

@@Gloryvisuals agreed. I’m pretty much obsessed with anamorphics and the blazars are the best cheapest way to get that special look so far. Can’t wait for the 45 to come in. Too bad the 35 is gonna only be apsc

Blazer looks the most pleasing to me. Normal (dare I say "professional") anamorphic lenses have secondary flares. I ordered blue coating for my set. Thanks for the test and confirming that the Remus was a great choice!

Blazar for a more true anamorphic feel. Viltrox is great for a more spherical w/ some subtle character feel.

Here is what I see..correct me if I m wrong..Blazar has a vintage look...Viltrox has a cleaner and more organic look.. Sirui is kinda colder , more aggressive...For a cinematic effect I think i prefer the blazar..for a clean shot i would go viltrox

  • @bommelsstuff1109

Cool! Yeah i can agree! and if the viltrox is too heavy the sirui give you also a very clean look. Price wise you can get the remus and the sirui for the price of the viltrox, that and the weight was the reason for me to go remus + sirui now i can choose depending on the project. But if i had more money i would go viltrox too they are amazing. Nice close focus and long focus throw, they are amazing

Cool test. Can you say more about the Mr. Ding Anamorfake? I don't see anything on their site. Is it just an oval insert? Or a custom lens? Thanks!

It is just the MR.Ding 50mm f1.1 lens with a oval insert in front of the aperture mechanism. This lens is ULTRA easy to mod, too! I plotted out stickers that go directly on the lenselement in front of the aperture mechanism :)

Hi! :) The Anamorfake has a 3x squeeze oval sticker in fron of the iris in side of the lens. I have to redo it because at the moment it is a grey one and the causes too much veiling inside the lens but overall i am super happy with the look. Maybe i make a whole set of anamorfakes now

Whilst on paper, I love the Blazar characteristics and def prefer it to the Sirui, for me the Viltrox looks the most organic and three dimensional if that makes sense. It has more depth to it than the others whilst also being cleaner.

IT is not that prominent normally, the uv filter made the ghosting pretty strong, i removed it later but the secondary flare does not goa way. I wish it would be amber too but overall i like it i must say
