This helped me out tremendously. Main highlights for me: -I was liking the idea of the double humbuckers on the Squire, but hearing the preamp in action put that to rest lol. -the Bacchus seems like a great build, but the hum killed me. -I’m now leaning HEAVILY toward a Sire V3 after hearing the preamp demoed here and in another video by CME where Marcus gives the full run-down. Only problem is that they (along with the V7s) are now on backorder through most retailers and on the direct website, so you have to go through something like Reverb or eBay. I personally don’t mind replacing the tuners if needed, but the 4-screw bridge isn’t a deal breaker for me at all like it might be for some

Bacchus and some shielding is my favorite. It's really important how instrument looks. Also make shielding by yourself is not a big deal. Real problem that is no passive mode.

Agreed that looks are important. I hate that Sire headstock so much hahaha. I do wish the Bacchus offered a little bit more, like a push pull active/passive. It's the best foundation for upgrades of the three IMO.

Great comparison! I definitely like the Bacchus. I think Sire giving an option for mids, gives it an overall better tone imo. I do agree that Sire has way too many knobs, but I think with that tone, preamp, and mahogany body, it’s the best bang for the buck. I was pretty disappointed with how the Squire sounded.

Interesting review and great job. To my ear the Squier sounded the best and I find the extremes of some of the lower priced onboard preamps like found on the Sire to not be useful as the full on boost of the treble, bass and mids just sounded bad. All in all the Bacchus seemed to be the best of all worlds. I also do not think that it is all that common to have a passive option for lower end active basses. It's nice if it offered but not realistic to expect in a sub $500 bass. Really finding your reviews very informative and a lot of fun to watch and listen to.

late to the party, but I've had many active basses (not anymore), and by far my favourite preamp was a Sadowsky, which was 2-band and boost-only, like in the Squier here. So it's not necessarily a sign of inferiority. Especially with that passive tone control. Boost the highs on the preamp while cutting some (or all) via the passive know and explore the unusual tones :D

Regarding: ~Squier- I hate the pickups,...nasally sounding ceramics with a active preamp that can't cover up that flaw. And a rough neck that feels like it was never introduced to some sandpaper. ~Sire V3: The flaws with this bass is nothing that can't be handled, replacing tuners is not a problem. Drilling holes for a new bridge is no big deal if you know what you're doing. Elsewise, it's a string-thru body.....One option is to replace the bridge saddles with brass ones if not comfortable installing aftermarket bridge. ~Bacchus: Honestly, the only times I've ever seen a Bacchus was in pawn shops,..usually some red passive P-bass or some other unappealing configuration. They are rare as a brand new instrument are not sold at in-store retailers. And that grounding issue was a bummer,....however, it is fixable. The Sire is still the best value out of all three,.............I enjoy your videos and this one was no exception. I really admire your honesty.

Not that I'm actively looking but just curious what a good upgrade (or side-grade) to my SR300E would be? Particularly with the jazz style body because I'm feeling for that design again. Not sure if that body style is ever going to be as lightweight as the ibanez, but it's alright if none of these jazz bass designs are. I really liked the Sire's sound overall-- thinking that if I want a decent side-grade to an active bass, it might as well have that ability to switch between passive or active, right? I'm really craving a metallic purple finish (as seen on the G&L jazz bass if you ever look it up), but a nice shade of blue wouldn't hurt as I already have my favorite color silver on my squier affinity 😉 I don't really know a whole lot about preamps or any of those extra knobs and switches, but i loved having that simple bass, mids, and treble adjustments on SR300E. I Particularly like the bridge on my ibanez too, not sure how unique that design of simply laying the strings in place through those individual gaps at the bottom of the bridge is-- but i loved the simplify of it. I think that's all the points worth covering? It's not like i really care about what kind of wood the neck or body has-- though i have to admit-- i don't like the beige color of maple necks 😅 honestly a nitpick though

The Squier at $450 is outrageous, to me. For a $100 less, you get a SIRE that's just a better bass, period. And for only $150 more, you're in the $600 category where you can get a REALLY GOOD bass. I've always felt that the $350 range is the toughest sell for various reasons.

Lobster, I had a noise issue with my Ibanez SRMD200 Mezzo bass and Ivan Bassist suggested changing the battery. He was right. Others have noted and I now see, that as the battery drains, the noise increases. Maybe the Bacchus was shipped with a bad battery like my Ibanez was. Also looking at eBay, I think there are many bootleg Bacchus basses out there, made in China.

Spot on about the Squire. I picked one up online and had instant regret. My neck came pretty rough, wouldn't hold a tune, and like you mentioned, the tonal options with the cheap electronics left much to be desired. Considering what this squire delivers, it's grossly over priced. It's the clear cut loser up against the other 2.

I own 2 top of the line Fender basses... But my go to beaters are my Squire ash contemporaries. I bought a white and black used under 270 ea. I removed the pick guards which gives both a more custom look, sometimes I wrap them. I'm sorry! but, both of them kick tail in my hands.. The tone hits hard on stage and other bass players can't believe they are Squires. "It's really in your ear and hands" The best Squires made to date.

The Bacchus wins for me as I would pay more for a better neck. I'm also wondering if is shielded? Also, I just happened to try a Sire V2 5 string the other day (nicer model with a quilted maple top) and thought the same thing, way too many knobs!! As for the head stock, I choose to believe they leave extra material so you can shape it to your liking :). Keep up the great videos!! Indeed. They're part of the Bacchus Global series in Japan (branded Bacchus). They do make the cheaper instruments, this seems to be on the upper tier of the Global line before getting into the lower end hand crafted Japanese instruments at around 1000 USD.

I think you misunderstood brother. I'm from the Philippines too. The "Bacchus Global Series" is not the same as the "Global" brand. The Global Series is just the name of the line-up for Bacchus just like how Sire called their bass V3. The Global you're saying (assuming they are the ones with "Global" on their headstock) is a different brand.
