    I've got one of the early versions when you first started carrying them. I like that I can get my whole hand inside to clean it. I've got to get back into brewing. Remembering to chill your wort just becomes part of the checklist.

    If I knew these did not have a threaded lid I would have gotten a Fermonster. The retention strap is sort of a joke. The fact that the vessel is already threaded for a real lid just rubs salt into the wound.

    Any tips for tightening down spigot. Mines leaks from over & under tightening. Should I try thicker rubber gaskets?

    I will probably never use glass carboys again. Safety, weight and the bottom port are the main reasons. Also take care with what you use to clean them with, do not use any thing that may scratch the inside while cleaning. Oh, and always test fill for leaks around the port before you put you tasty wort into it. Cheers.

    @@magacop5180 I sure do! I have had used glass carboys in the past but just the thought of one of them breaking (especially full) makes me shiver anymore. I have seen pictures of some of the injury's from them breaking, not pretty.

    Looks really nice. One question I have that applies to any fermenter with a plastic spigot is, after sanitizing it and pouring the wort into it, how do you keep the internal parts of the spigot sanitized where the hose will later connect? Maybe wrapping it in plastic wrap with some Star San, etc?

  • @NorthernBrewerTV

    @NorthernBrewerTV

    3 жыл бұрын

    That is a good question. I think also hitting it with a spray bottle of hot water followed by some sprays of Star San would also be a good option.

    It would be nice to see the siphon less aspect in use. How much wort is left behind? How much yeast and hop gunk is sucked up during the process?

  • @NorthernBrewerTV

    @NorthernBrewerTV

    3 жыл бұрын

    We don't have an exact volume of wort that is left behind because that would also have to take into account the kind of beer, the volume of yeast cake, trub, etc. We do know that if you tilt the fermentor forward a bit, you will get more out. As long as there are not a ton of hops and protein trub in the fermentor in the first place, there should be plenty of space below the spigot for the yeast cake. For anyone concerned about any of that into bottles, we recommend a secondary stage to get as much as possible to settle out.

    The Big Mouth Bubbler is not rated or designed for pressure fermentation. If you tell us a bit more about the amount of pressure you aim for, we might be able to provide some alternative suggestions.

    For bottling do you just pour from spicket?

  • @NorthernBrewerTV

    @NorthernBrewerTV

    Жыл бұрын

    You can fill bottles directly from the spigot. However, we often suggest a small length of tubing and a spring tip bottle filler to avoid as much splashing (thus adding oxygen to the beer) as the beer goes into the bottle. See the 06:43 mark of this other video to see a similar bottling setup: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fp5np8FvkdCpiZs.html

    Why does my lid NOT secure! I had to actually use duct tape to hold it on the jug. What’s up?

  • @NorthernBrewerTV

    @NorthernBrewerTV

    2 жыл бұрын

    Did your Bubbler come with a carrying/support strap? If not send your order number to and we can send you one. Those not only keep the lid securely in place, but also double as straps to help carry the fermenter. The Universal Lids do a great job of providing an air-tight seal on the Big Mouth Bubblers. In fact, due to the larger surface area, they almost do "too good" of a job which is why your lid might kept rising up. Some brewers have found that letting the lid dry after sanitizing can prevent the lid from rising. If at least one ring of the outer gasket is in contact with the Big Mouth Bubbler, your fermentor is sealed and your beer is safe. Does this help?

    It's so sad that you guys have a fantastic design with such a real bad design for a lid. You guys known for a long time the problems everyone is having with these lids and still you haven't fixed it. You can dry and do anything you want, that lid comes up. I even duct taped and the lid still lifted. Go back to the screw on lid design and perfect it. My son is an industrial designer who brews with me and said the same thing. The lids stink, they have been that way for some time. I got fed up with the lids and sold almost all my BMBs which I had 8 and now down to 2 and bought 2 lid lock downs off Amazon which work but still a pain to assemble. In short fix the long over due lid redesign.
