Siouxsie and the Banshees - Night Shift (guitar cover)
Музыка
Night Shift, from the Juju album.
Original song is copyrighted to the artist and/or label, I don't own it.
This song is hell.
It actually sounds much better on the mix with the video than it did to me while I was playing it. Lots of different parts, I had to make a kind of map to follow so I could get into the right parts on the right time. All in all, a difficult song to play. Well, yeah, it's McGeoch.

My favourite band ever, just pouring with an abundance of talent, i never ever tire of listening to Siouxsie and the Banshees and in John McGeoch they found genius ❤️

Brilliant, what can I say more ? I do not play guitar, but let's think that John Mc Geoch would have been proud of you for sure...

+Joël DI DOMIZIO Thank you! It's really a shame he's not around anymore…
This one is the difficult one, but I think it's more because there are so many different parts and variations... Thanks for watching and writing me :)
You never fail to deliver when working out Banshees guitar tracks & anyone who knows a bit about guitars will appreciate that much of McGeogh's & Carruthers' work is not exactly conventional / easy to work out. Always utmost respect to you. Thanks, once again.
Wow, thank you sharing this Rosetta Stone.

Sei bravissimo ho ancora tutti i dischi dei Siouxsie....ma il tuo Guitar cover di tutti i brani che fai , mi fa venire la pelle d'oca. Io 58 anni e grazie ❤️

This is so awesome! You really nailed the McGeoch sound.
Really impressed by your playing - puts my version to shame now I have seen yours. Going to check out your other covers now. Very well done!
After all, you did play it as i once requested! Great!!! Man, you`re brilliant!
Killer - in every respect. Awesome work.
you really are truly amazing!! I would kill to be able to play like you do!!
This is by far one of the best covers out there. I never realized how complex this long time favorite of mine was until i tried to play it. Unlike me though, you do it flawlessly. F'ing Bravo!
Excellent performance of one of my Banshees favourites.
You were spot on with the guitars!! well done!! I play the bass part and can sing that song,too. That one and "pulled to bits" are fun ones.
Thank you for the hard work and commitment. You've been all along a great inspiration.

Wow......... I could close my eyes and it could be a guitar lesson from the late great departed himself. The McGeoch phase of the Banshees was always my favourite and you play it with amazing technique plus the additional magic of the heart and soul of a true fan....fantastic. I play guitar and have saved your clips to attempt to nail some of the parts myself. Many thanks.
Very well done. Your sound is excellent. I think John himself would be proud of you!!!!!
Most excellent !

Thanks for watching and commenting. Though the Looking Glass is not on my favourites list, but I do know this song (not how to play it, though).
Thank you very much for writing me. The "figuring-out" part is the hardest one... there's a couple of songs that are on the waiting list for ages now because of one or two parts that I just can't get right.
@CONSIDERABLYMORE1 Lol... the merits belong all to the composers of the song =) Thanks a lot for watching and commenting!

Thanks. I think there was so much more he could have gifted us with... it's sad he couldn't stay around longer. I don't remember exactly how I recorded this, but it was probably guitar > you dirty rat > straight into the computer, and the rest was done on Guitar Rig.

Thanks! I usually record line in and then tweak the sound later, so it's easier to get close to the original. Unfortunately I don't have a tab for this, and haven't really played it again since I recorded this...
I think this is probably the hardest one to learn/play so far... If I was to play it today I wouldn't remember half of it :)
Yeah,I have no guitar experience,but Night Shift always sounded complex/difficult.Your version sounds as good as McGeoch's though,which is saying something.That guy was astounding.
@rosepab1234 Thanks! I never noticed the Yamaha until I started to get into McGeoch's work. Before that I was all into semiacoustics...
@woodyamsterdam Thanks for watching! Nice cover of Arabian Knights you got there =)
Thank you!
@Mookie6120 Thank you, thanks for watching and commenting.
It is also the most fun part! :D
@Worlock1989 Thanks. I don't recall, I probably was using amp and effects sims. There's a magazine interview where he explains his rig from the Armoury Show era... I can send it to you if you want. The guitar I'm playing is a SG3000. I payed a bit for it, more than I would for any guitar, but less than I would for a Gibson or Fender of the same quality.
@nwordplease Thanks for watching! That's one of the toughest to play...
@thomsk I'm currently playing in the band of the singer Jair Naves. There are a few live videos here on youtube. I had a few bands before that too... and whenever I can I try to work on some solo stuff, but it's been round two years now and I can't seem to finish any song...
Good guitar playing

I don't know if you're a fan of The Banshees' Through the Looking Glass album but you should definitely cover "This Wheel's on Fire"! By the way, your covers are quite amazing, lol.
@Stig1138 Thanks! I never found a cover of it too...
@XellKamikaze How are you dude? I'm not quite sure of a lot here... any chance of you making a video of your version? I know that Robert Smith played it very different from McGeoch, that in most songs too.
@spookynative Thanks! This is one of the hardest to play I think...
@johnnyhock Listening to it again, I probably played it through a ProCo You Dirty Rat and possibly a Boss CE2 chorus clone before running into the soundboard...
@skywalker74 Yeah, me too. Or Darth Vader, for that matter... but from the old trilogy. I think it's the case with most people born before the 90's =)
Thank you. I hope he moved away knowing how creative and innovative his work was.
@whitneyhouston1000 @whitneyhouston1000 Thanks! Yes, RS plays most of the songs different than John... sometimes he simplifies them a lot (can't blame him though, John's lines aren't that easy to learn and play).
@Guedzilla thanks ;o) We should have rehearsed this one properly before filming it though I suppose. Do you play in a band or do you just practice by yourself?
He's one of my heroes.... but you've probably knew that already :)
nice work man. John Mcgeoch is god
Killed this one. Im trying to learn this one and just cant get the tone right. would you be able to give me some pointers on my setup and settings. SG1000 and mxr flanger. im using a compressor which I think might be muddying it up. maybe just straight into the flanger.
@Guedzilla
20 күн бұрын
I like the flanger before the dirt, I think that's how McGeoch used it too, using the dirt from the amp. Maybe try rolling of some of the low frequencies?
@louisfriendhastaste Thanks! What am I running for? :P
Any chance you you could tab this out? Awesome playing! I guess I should be able to figure it out from this camera view because I am dyslexic but certain parts are throwing me for a loop. I play in a band that does hardcore punk originals and some NYHC covers of bands like CroMags , Agnostic Front, Bad Brains and a couple of early Suicidal Tendencies tunes. I would love to throw this into the covers if I can figure it out, but it's very different from the style I usually play. Anyways NICE PLAYING!!!!!

Thanks! I don't really remember… sounds like it could be a ProCo Your Dirty Rat for dirt, and the rest should be software… Guitar Rig, flanger and amp, or something, since I didn't have a flanger back then yet. But yeah, for McGeoch stuff you'll pretty much need a flanger.
@bufon63 Oh, I didn't get you wrong... I just forgot to say "thanks" :)
yaa getting into guitar at 55!! Ha Ha, nothing to prove and having fun trying to play sonic youth, siousxie and bshees, etc etc GReat sound really jangly!! Ho did you do that??

@warminator uhm.... must have been a lot of time ago... :)
I should have asked you many years ago Guedzilla, if you had to choose between SG 3000. 2000 and 1000 which would it be?, I,m looking to buy an SG....
@Guedzilla
20 күн бұрын
I never played any other than the 3000... if you can try them, pick the one that feels best to you. I think maybe I'd picked the 1000 on the grounds that it was the one that McGeoch preffered (over the 2000 at least). But all of them should be stellar guitars, I've yet to play a bad Yamaha.

Am and E, as if you were playing them like a barre chord on the 12th, but without the barre. e|-0----0---| B|-13----12---| G|-14----13---| D|-14----14---| A|-0----14---| E|-X----0---|

Im sorry to be a pain but for some reason this video doesn't allow me to watch it. it says "this video is not avaliable" I have been looking for an accurate tab for this song for ages but I haven't ever come across anything. Could you please list the chords or tab for me x
@Guedzilla
9 жыл бұрын
Anais Fanton I'm sorry to hear that. I checked the youtube video info, it seems that UMG (who owns the rights to the song) blocked the video on Germany… I think there are some ways around this, with a proxy or such, but I never did it myseld. I don't have tabs for this song, never written them down (and don't really remember the parts, I don't usually play this by myself). The chords, being very very minimalist, are Am, E for the verses and E, D (some times) then Am, E for the chorus. Hope this helps :)
I'm really struggling to figure those chords out !
@Guedzilla

I don't even remember how to play this one… I don't think I've played it ever since I recorded the video. It's mostly around Am E, and E D on the chorus.
