'E 'Otua tataki au
fakaulo 'ae maama 'i hoku loto
pea ngaohi au koe fetu'u ngingila
ko koe 'ae malohi moe mafimafi
English translation to 1st Verse:
God Will Guide Me
Turn on the light in my heart
And make me The Shining star
Thou is the strong and the mighty
2nd Verse:
Lay down my dear brother
lay down and take your rest
I'm gonna lay your head
upon your saviors chest
and I love you
but Jesus loves you best
I bid you goodnight, goodnight, goodnight

Hey friends, incase anyone is wondering about the origins of this song, the meaning and also the way pacific island people may use this specific song …….. this song is a prayer from the BAHA’I Faith that a man from Tonga translated into the Tongan words you hear now in this song. Another artist (musician or composer of lyrics) has added the English verses later and created this popular song version of the Baha’i prayer. The original prayer in English which was translated into these Tongan lyrics from this song are ; O God Guide Me, Protect Make of me a shining lamp and a brilliant star. Thou Art the Might, and the Powerful ~ ABDU’L-BAHA Now-a-days this song is used to commemorate a person at their funeral or as a song used in videos or short documentary’s that were taken and made for someone’s funeral service and burial. Many people from the pacific islands know and love this song. It is very popular especially when someone has passed away (due to the English lyrics that were added to this song, which again are not a translation of the Tongan words you hear in this song)
