YES! YES! YES! the judges and festival organizers are to be blamed for the dearth of champions that depend on props instead of ACTUAL dancing

HONEST OPINION. Mao ni dapat naka first place. WORLD CLASS PERFORMANCE!! cguru second mo sa SSB kay kamu overall champ sa grand parade puhon! BEST OF LUCK!

and whoever wins the street dancing category should hold at least a 50% chance of winning the grand champion title. the REAL dancing is seen in the streets where there is less props involved, more choreography and stamina to do such for a long period of time in heat/rain.

They are showcasing what the true essence of sinulog dance is.

if i were a judge, i'd deduct more points from contingents that did more running instead of actual dancing for transitions. it's more difficult to actually do some dancing while moving to the next position in the choreography without running. i dont know if the judges chosen had more superficial perspectives on the performances or they were briefed by organizers on scoring contingents on the level of elaborateness of a contingent's props. if that were the latter, i'd say the organizers are wanting more visual effects to please tourists than to actually feature the spirit of the festival

they could probably add a bit more fluidity and difficulty to their props choreo, but not necessarily piling on more props which the lanao group (and the tendency of past winners did) did this year. if i were the organizers and judges, i'd rather emphasize the actual dancing and actually put in more limits to the number of props allowed in the actual stage dance. seems like a lot of the contingents (including the famed sinanduloy) just fall back on their props to do the tricks for them instead of the actual dancing. the organizers might just as well put in a separate category for a props contest to music without actual dancers
