Having stayed alone in cities like Pune , Chennai and Mumbai for years , here are few cents from me - 1. Delivery boy aaye to aise pretend karo ke koi aur bhi hai ghar mai 2. Never leave door open to give chutta/returns etc to delivery boy 3. Never get into casual conversations with neighbours not even aunties and even if you do keep it short and never talk about your family and what you do etc 4. Make sure atleast one of your trusted male friend stays close by and can reach you in 5-6 mins if needed 5. Keep all women safety numbers handy 6. Do not trust anyone not even building security guard 7. Don’t call anyone inside your house no matter what 8. Be very very vigilant 9. Watch crime petrol everyday so that tum sab pe shak karo and satark raho 🤣🤣

An alternative for the 1st tip is to ask the delivery man via phone call to leave your parcel at your doorstep, that way you won't have to come in contact with him. If he asks you that if you're home then why you're not opening the door, just tell him on the phone that you're little busy. Tell him to leave order at your doorstep & say that you will collect it in a few minutes! But this will work only if your orders are prepaid, if you're paying by Cash, then you may have to open the door for payment. Try to keep your orders prepaid, so that you can go for "No contact delivery". I am an avid shopper, so I keep ordering something or the other, every few days, but I make sure that my orders are "online paid", and I hang a carry bag at my door on the day of delivery, so that I can tell the delivery person via phone call to drop my order in the carry bag instead of leaving it on the floor (incase I'm not at home). I've been doing this since the Covid Lockdown. I had got this idea from Zomato. They had introduced "No Contact delivery", where the delivery pertners will leave your order at your doorstep and he will call you to inform that he has kept your order outside your door & then you can collect it. I am using this idea for all my orders, be it food orders or online shopping orders. It's been 4 years since I'm doing this & believe me, no delivery man has even seen my face in these 4 years!!! Try it! 🙏🏼☺️

When I shifted alone, my family came to help me with shifting n unpacking. My neighbors were all 👪 👴 👵 so I felt somewhat safe. Few weeks later I heard the guard shouting and banging in front of my neighbor's door. I was so scared, it started happening everyday. Finally I came to know son was a student and the parents left for their hometown and guard came to wake him up EVERYDAY, so he didn't miss college😅. He left after few months(maybe cause covid happened) and then 6-7(maybe more) guys came to live next door. Lemme tell you THAT was scary. They were not students or even working males. They kept talking about huge amount and shifting people here and there. I never went to the balcony again😅. Didn't even open the door towards the balcony. Returned back home. They might not be bad people but something about them seemed off. I just had that gut feeling which made me really alert.

Yesterday I was alone at home, and when I went outside the home i saw some people stalking me.. around 4:00 pm I went outside again and i saw them they were coming toward me and then I just waved my hand towards my house and they thought that somebody is there in the house. So they moved back.😂 JOKES APART.... STAY SAFE. Don't judge my english thats not my mother tongue.

I just realised how in grained this self protection is. I have lived in Singapore for over a decade, but when my Husband travels I always leave his casual slippers outside of the front door. I realised 2 weeks back he had worn that pair during his travel and I had a burst of anxiety when I saw only my flip flops outside of the door. I live in a building with security and also a safe country, but the conditioning doesn’t go away ever!

Funnily enough, my husband is a pacifist and not at all aggressive and in fact if people meet the two of us, I would be the one that they guess would react assertively if threatened. But from childhood we have been told that men are the protectors and we just go along with that and tbh unsavoury elements of the society will also give a pause if a woman is accompanied by a man, But it’s too much pressure for the men in our lives , they feel the same pain and hurt as everyone else and this expectation isn’t fair on them .

Not just a rental house, but even if she is capable of purchasing her own house, the building commitee most of the time doesn't give NOC just because she is single/unmarried/separated. Most of the buildings/societies think that married people are "Sant Mahatma" & single people are "Devils" 😂😂 But the Supreme Court has cleared in a statement saying, "any Society/Building doesn't have any right to withhold NOC based on a person's marital status & the same goes for Landlords rejecting a Tenant for their marital status". So, if you are also facing the problems that I mentioned, you can always contact the Police or your Lawyer for help. 🙏🏼

Main akeli rehti hu apne bete ke sath and trust me mujhe ye sab kuch krne ki kabhi jarurat hi nahi padi and i feel very safe. Parcels delivery ke liye aate he aur kabhi kabhi pani bhi mangte he to darwaja band krke hi pani leke aati hu. Im very brave nd safe really ✌🏻⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡

I have lived alone 30+ years, since 1993.. travelled alone a lot across India. I haven't felt unsafe .. not even thinking so much about safety concerns .. 99% Indians are helpful and trustworthy, in my experience.
