I used a single shot for 5 years as a home defense gun. Never needed but it let me sleep well at night. Have since upgraded, have never needed the better stuff either. Most likely when someone breaks into your home, you won't be there to use whatever home defense gun you choose.

I would rather have a single shot shotgun than a stick. But… I would rather have my pump shotgun for home defense. Now I have seen poorer times in my past where I only had a single shot shotgun. I slept just fine. Just planned on not pulling the trigger until I knew I would hit my target. A good hit center mass, with buckshot or a slug will stop 99% of two legged predators . Great video. Love this channel.

I've had a H&R 20 gauge single shot for 40 years and it has never failed me. It fires every time and ejects the shell every time. You just can't ask for more. I like my single shot so well that I sold my 12 gauge pump. The single shot is lighter and easier to swing around and get on target. I'm thinking about another single shot to restore and cut off to the legal limit of an 18" barrel.

My girlfriend isn't very recoil sensitive but at the same time, she has issues holding up and keeping continuous fire with larger pump actions, I got her a single shot 20 gauge with a permanent modified choke and ejector, then bought her some higher power bird shot and a decent amount of hollowpoint slugs, rigged up a shell holder for her and she's been happy with it.

Sure : We all want more than one shot ... BUT : If all I had was one shot : I would want it to be 12 gauge buck shot ! Thunderous and disorienting ; like a pipe bomb exploding into the faces of intruders who won’t have time to wonder if its a single shot . Use that time to reload ... more than likely one will be dead , one will be injured , and the rest will be running . If God is on Your side that one shot won’t even need to be fired ... but it’s nice to have . In other words : Any gun is better than no gun ... and I’ll leave it at that before I go too far into an unarmed zone , which I do not recommend .

A couple companies make really light single shot shotguns with 18 inch barrels now. They are much more maneuverable indoors than the longer barrel versions. Also, very affordable.

Very nice video. I'm a beginner at firearms but I do have a 20 gauge single barrel (ATI Nomad 18.5") in my bedroom which makes me feel just that much safer. Have a double barrel 410 coach gun on the way whom my wife or 12yr old son could easily handle if it came down to it. Being we have very little experience with firearms, it's best to keep it simple in my opinion. That outta take care of most, worst case home scenarios when combined with an indoor dog I think.

I have single shot and double barrell shotguns located strategically throughout my house for home defense and whichever gun is the closes to me in the time of need is the one I'll use. I will be also be installing a magnet soon under my dinner table for my single shot 45/410 Commanche pistol. I feel safer with the single and double barrell shotguns than in do with pumps, lever action and semiautomatics shotguns. A short stroke on a pump or lever action or a jamm on a semiautomatic can be the difference between life and death. Inconclusion, I'm more consistent with the single and barrell shotguns than the with a pump, lever or semiautomatic because I skeet shoot more with them at the shooting range.

I have an old single shot 12 gauge...but it's not my only shotgun...a single shot wouldn't be my 1st choice...however...if a bad guy were in your home and you had a bead on them...its lights out...if there are more then 1 bad guy chances are they have no idea you only have a single shot...all they know is you have a weapon that just blew body parts off their buddy making it very unlikely they will charge towards that weapon...but just incase they do change you should have more then enough time to reload...remember, nothing is guaranteed

I would use and have used a single shot when I didn’t have anything else for home defense. When I had a shooting at my apartment complex I went out and bought a pump mossberg the next day, the 20in barrel that said it holds 8 rounds in the tube. I didn’t think there was a high likelihood of needing it which is why I didn’t go get a pump.

Yep I had a bolt action 20ga with a 20in barrel behind the door but after realizing how much more time it took to cycle the bolt I traded it out for a pump and the bolt gun went to the back of the closet

Those single shot shotguns are the greatest for hunting and teaches you to make that one shot count as in one shot one kill and conserves your ammo at the same time but yeah there are better choices/options for in home defense purposes !!!

Show folks how to reload a single with shells between the fingers of the off hand. With practice and safari reloading you can get 4 rounds off in 20 seconds. It doesn't beat a pump or an autoloader but a load of copper plated bb high brass is gonna stop whoever you hit.

I do not believe any ”gun fight” statistics. Every situation is unique, with very differently skilled combatants and circumstaces. But if I look at the crazy shit that went down in 2020, and assume those situations were ”as bad as it’s liklely to get” none of the situations I’ve seen needed anything very potent or advanced as far as firearms goes. The old Topper 48 will do just fine in 80-90% of all situations. It’s probably more down to skill, and keeping your head cool.

  • @GunTradition

I was taught that a fight is 90 percent mental and 10 percent technique. With guns, equipment plays some part, but it's still not far off from that statement. The issue is most people who think they have the mindset do not because they've never trained their mind, attitude, and responses for a fight. If they don't have good training, they're kidding themselves.

Now try shooting a man sized target at 10 feet. That long barrel seems to get in the way doesn't it. The caliber or gauge is usually nothing to worry about due to the range. Pattern your gun at no more than 15 feet and use every size shot from skeet number 9 to double oo buckshot being very aware of penetration. I did this and settled on 3 inch number 4 shot this is a turkey load. . Now before you shoot inside your home take a quick headcount of your children so you don't shoot the one that went to the movies.

As far as long barrels, my shotgun muzzle is only 3 inches further in front of me than my glock is durring shooting. I measured. Length can be a hassle, but not much of a hassle generally.

Where did u get those statistics? I just can’t imagine that stat being accurate. Maybe with a handgun but with a shotgun? Or any kind of long gun at home defense ranges? I guess I could be wrong. It could be legit. Just doesn’t seem like an accurate stat. to me

I mean if you live in a country where guns are illegal for home defense but you want to have something to protect your family if somebody breaks in (I of course wouldnt commit crimes and wouldnt recommend it) but if you just get a single shot shotgun it is better then nothing. Also a shotgun round is pretty good to stop somebody and scare the shit outta them and also you can beat the person with this big piece of steel if you shot your shot. Of course a higher capacity gun would be better obviously but this is better than nothing. Normally everybody can buy an illegal gun if he really wants and also a war weapon but some people dont have a lot of money and also a low capacity gun wouldnt bring as much problems if you get caught from the police as a full auto ak with a drum magazine obviously. Thank you for the video, stay safe, stay strapped and stay healthy
