Single Rope Technique SRT caving (reference only) please seek proper training before attempting

Спорт

This video was made as a reference for the guys we took down under ground, so they could refer back and remind how SRT is done. If you wish to do this and have never done SRT before please get proper instructions, if done wrong you could hurt or even kill yourself. There are also many different techniques for SRT, filmed in West Mine Alderly Edge, please contact Derbyshire Caving Club for beginner caving trips or visits to one of the Alderly Edge Mines.

    I searched for a long time through youtube to find an instructional caving SRT video, and yours was the only one I could find. I don't go vertical caving that often, so it was a great refresher course for me. I have shared it with the rest of my caving group. Many thanks for taking the time to put this all together. Really great job!

    you put your breaking carabener on central carabiner or on carabiner that is attached to desender?

  • @cavealaska1

    @cavealaska1

    Put the breaking karabiner next to the karabiner that the stop descender is attached to that way when you put a full lock on you feed the rope through both karabiners, thank for watching as well

    cavealaska1 That doesn't seem to be the safest option! If the biner is big enough, the Stop can go through the biner: s12.postimg.org/h8cqeqy71/Stop_Xtra_Friction.jpg. It seems that attaching both biners next to each other should only be done with a small enough breaking biner.

    what are the advantages of a of a bowline instead to a rethreaded fig 8?

  • @roflmyeggoproduction

    @roflmyeggoproduction

    9 жыл бұрын

    the figure-8 tightens on itself and after supporting your weight and can be hard to untie. the bowline is just as easy to untie with no load on it as if it had a 1,000 pounds of force, however I am no 100 percent sure a bowline is safe to use. If you tied a double fishermans knot with the end of the rope though you'd probably be fine. There is a way to untie a figure eight called "breaking the knot" where you grab the top and bottom of the knot and push your thumbs in the middle and flip it and repeat the same thing over and over again. It can still be difficult but i trust the figure-8 more than the bowline.

    You can also use a Grigri instead of a descender, and then also use it instead of the Croll for ascending. That's one less piece of equipment needed.

  • @alek-by7rm

    @alek-by7rm

    yeah, and when ascending it literally takes double the time to go up with a grigri:)))

  • @M0rtanius

    @M0rtanius

    @@alek-by7rm Why double time? Grigri will be used to cam the rope in exactly the same way as the Croll, so it will take the same time.

  • @alek-by7rm

    @alek-by7rm

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@M0rtanius it's not exactly the same way. i've ascended with croll, grigri, microtraxion, prusiks and belay devices and believe me, nothing is as fast as a croll. and i don't even see how a grigri would be compatible with petzl pantin, it won't work well under tension
